The Penguin Classics deluxe edition
So I've picked up a few sagas here and there and I've had this book sitting around for about a year. I kept meaning to dig into it but never managed until just recently (I feel like such a bad Heathen). Spiral Dance sent me looking for something with a sense of history to it. Anyway, I thought I might just sort of leave comments on it as I work my way through the various sagas in the book. Feel free to join in if you've read any of these sagas, either in this book or elsewhere.
Starting things off with Egil's Saga. This is the saga that some think can be attributed to our old friend Snorri. I'm a little over half way through this one and it's certainly interesting. I'm fascinated by the way the Viking times are portrayed as both highly desirable and deeply flawed. Lies, greed, and mistrust cause a lot of problems. Also, as a modern sort, I have to stop for a moment every time they casually kill a prepubescent child.

I have not finished Egil's Saga. At first I found the lineages tough to follow, but I have figured it out. I actually enjoyed the scene where he and his men were feasting finally with the King and after his boast the drinking horn exploded xd

I have actually finished Egil's Saga. It was really interesting to see how he matured and settled down a bit. And I love his final bit of trouble/legend making. That's one way to be remembered.
Moving on the The Saga of the People pf Vatnsdal.
