Hey Everyone!

I was just wondering are/would you raise your Child/Children as vegetarian? Or would you have them eat meat....and have them choose being a veggie on their own later in their life? Would you Marry/Date anyone thats not a veggie/vegan?

Well I'll start... I would marry/date someone who wasn't vegetarian... as Long as He Respected Me and my lifestlye... Now about Children... I want Very Much to raise them Vegetarian... But if I marry someone that doesn't share my lifestlye and doesn't want the children rasied that way with out "Choosing on their own". He would be able to feed them meat as long as he cooked it. and know that when I cook I Only cook Vegtarian. I want My children to Always know where I stand when it comes to this Great lifestlye... I will tell them from day one why I don't eat meat... and lead by example. I would love anyone else that has thoughts on this subject to post. P.S. I didn't see this subject on here already.... But if I miss it and some question like this is up and posted .... tell me by posting that here as well Thanks.

Well, growing up requires lots of different nutrients and the body is very picky at that time. Especially as a baby.

Growing up vegan would be very bad for the child's health.
Growing up vegetarian would be possible for the child and for him/her to live healthily.

It would be required, though, that the child's nutrients are met every day, and not all but one. It would be very challenging in this day and age.

I'd probably make my wife do it surprised

Yes I would marry a non-vegetarian/vegan, but I wouldn't serve them meat. And I wouldn't expect to be served vegetarian food.

As for the children, I wouldn't force them to be a vegetarian.
If they asked me if they could have a hotdog I'd say yes.
But as for serving there dinner I'd want them to have vegetarian every second day (me serving) and every second day meat (my spouse serving).

A nice system in my opinion. But I'd like my spouse to serve organic/ecological meat. Just for the sake of the animals. :3

Hi Meldisse,
I find that your method is the best way to go ideally. I also had that sort of thing planned out as well. Although this is what I'd do, I think I would really want my children to be vegetarian/vegan as well. My family all eat meat and I don't like sitting near them when they eat or just listening to them talk about it, it makes me feel sick inside. I'm not very sure of what to do if/when I have children. I'm already in a relationship with a meat eater and we're actually getting married soon!

Well, there's my share.

Best wishes,
Julie.

Growing a child up vegan isn't bad for their health at all. It's been said that a vegan diet is healthy for all stages of life. From pregancy to birth to old age.

The only thing nutrients we get from meat are generally obtained on vegetarian/vegan diet.

Protein is the least of vegans/vegetarian diets. Eating legumes and nuts can help give you the proper protein you need. Plus, it is better for people to obtain their protein from plant foods than animal foods. Meat and dairy products contain far too large amounts of protein for humans to consume.

iron is another mineral that is not to be a great worry of vegans/vegetarians. It's not about how much iron we receive than it is making sure we have the vitiman C that helps the body absorb iron. Eating green leafy vegetables would help give people the proper amount of iron they need, as long as you have some vitiman C to go along with, like some oranges or other fruits, you don't have to worry too much.

Zinc can also be obtainedby eating legumes and nut as well.

When it comes to dairy products people begin to worry a little more about calcium. But the truth of the matter is that 90% of the worlds population can't even digest milk. Even if you are part of the 10% that could, the calcium in milk binds with mineral phosphate(sp?) and is not capable of being digested and absorbed. So people are better off just sticking to the alternatives anyways.

With children and vegan diet, it can be done healthfully. In my city theres a vegan restraubnt, and the lady who owns and runs it will sometimes have her children with her. She raised her children vegan, and they're all very healthy. 3nodding

It all depends on how everything is balanced.

As for my spouse, children, and vegitarianism/veganism, I have mixed feelings about it.

On one hand I don't mind if my spouse eats meat. However, I'd preferr not to have meat in my home (though I'm still living with my parents, so I have to tolerate thier barbaric eating habits at home...), yet if I really love them, and they're not about to go veggie, then I suppose I could tolerate it...

For my children, if my spouse eats meat, then I'll allow my children to choose thier eating habits, however I'm NOT going to cook meat for my wife or kids. My wife will be responsible for cooking whatever animal flesh she and my chid(ren) may consume. If my wife happens to be vegitarian, then it's likely that I'll raise our kids veggie as well. I'll also try to educate my child(ren) on some of the reasons I'm veggie from the time that they're young, but I'm not going to be too militant or pushy about it.
