I'm looking for someone with extensive knowledge of the book series to tell me if it is worth the read. I realize that the trilogy itself can be a difficult read, but if it's going to make me hate my favorite movies i dont think i want to attempt it.

So opinions? Did the movie follow close to the written series?

There were some changes from the books to movies, but I don't think that you'll hate the movies if you read the books. I read the books first and loved the movies when they came out despite the changes. Among the biggest changes, off the top of my head, are some compressing of events and characters. The hobbits have a few more incidents on their way to Rivendell in the books for example. Arwen gets her role expanded some from the books, and Haldir too if I remember right while some characters that made brief appearances in the books got removed. I'd definitely recommend giving them a go as I think both versions can be equally enjoyed.

I enjoyed The Fellowship, but I don't know if I liked The Two Towers and Return of the King as much. They're good, no doubt, but I liked the first book the best. I don't think it would compromise you liking the movies. There are quite a few differences between the books and movies, yes, but by reading the books you get more insight into the movies. At least, I did.

<3 Thank you both very much. I was worried because I honestly cannot enjoy watching the Harry Potter Movies without pointing out everything that makes me angry. But if you say that it'll give me more insight rather then frustration. Then i believe i will attempt to work my way through them. Thank you Both!
