How slow? I've only had mine for a week, but it only takes about a second to change pages.

Mine started off pretty fast but now the menus/going to a different screen lags. I think I might have messed something up when I tried to use the experimental web browser--it crashed several times and I almost thought my Kindle broke ): It's mostly ok now though just a bit slower. I did notice that I used to be able to turn it off by holding the slider for about 6 seconds, now I have to hold it a lot longer.

Its worse now, it took almost a minute to show the next page on the book I was reading and the 5 way controller barley works. Im planing on sending it in. If yours starts to do the same I sugest you do the same. If its under a year old its still under warenty.

I'll email them or something and see about sending it in.

Oh hey, fellow Kindle users! I've got a second gen Kindle and my mom just recently got the newest Kindle. I'm pretty happy with mine, but I do have to say that I'm jealous of the reduced size and increased speed in the newest Kindle. I also think I prefer the new buttons to my five-way joystick mode of navigation. Oh, but I do like the fact that the second gen keyboard has a row for the numbers.
I love my Kindle but... I just already have so many books in print form (somewhere around 1500 at last count) that I find myself not using my Kindle as often as I'd like. I wish there was some way to trade in your paper books for ebook versions. I've also run across the problem of lots of books that I want being cheaper in print format. For example: a new boxed set of A Song of Ice and Fire is twenty dollars, while the Kindle bundle of all four books is thirty five dollars.
