An announcement ripped through every program on television as the small town went on with their day, yet many paused with confusion as every channel suddenly had the same intterupting advertisment.

A skeleton face faded slowly into the red background as some off-key disturbing music began to play, "Are you misunderstood, looking for some deadly fun and twisted thrills? Well you're in luck my little outcast," then a flash of eyes appeared in the eye sockets and the image zoomed out, it was the ringmaster. His hat tall and extravagant with cobwebs and other ghastly patterns hanging from the brim. "The Twisted Hearts Circus. It's devestatingly entertaining."

People began to crowd around tvs while parents sheilded their childrens' eyes as violent acts came through. Bloodied people, a tight rope walker using a man's spine for balance, and a fire breather blowing flames onto a heart that was still beating. Then the screen went black and a whisper rang though veiwers' ears, "Twisted Hearts" Then the original programs returned, but the entire town was silent.

Felix smiled at his tight rope walker who was hacking the local sattilite, "That ought to bring some attention yes?"

“Show off,” she muttered under her breath as she cut the connection. Brianna stood up and dusted off her pants. They stood atop the tallest building in the area, where the satellite’s connection could reach even the furthest houses on the outskirts of town.

She walked over to the edge of the building and stared out across the city. The setting sun cast long shadows over the horizon. Wind whipped through her long black hair. Brianna tucked a few flyaway strands behind her ear and turned around to face Felix. “I hope you know what you’re doing.”

The ringmaster gave her a crazy smile. The fading light created a creepy shadow on his face. “Don’t I always?”

Brianna ignored his question. They snuck back down the side of the building, escaping before anyone came to investigate the bizzare, unannounced broadcast.

In ten minutes they were back on the ground. Felix bent down in front of Brianna and motioned for her to climb on his back. “I know you don’t like being on the ground. So get on.” Brianna knew there was sense in what he said, and as much as she didn’t want to, she decided to listen to him. Felix hoisted her up with little effort, despite the one-year age gap, and began walking.

“I know that you think we’re going to get into more trouble than get any costumers, but like I said: I know what I’m doing,” Felix said.

Soon they arrived at the circus grounds in a large field where everyone was practicing. Keeping Brianna on him like a backpack, Felix popped out a unicycle. In one swift jump they landed on it, and Felix rode around to see how everyone was doing.

The freaks were unloading equipment into their separate tent. The clowns were making sure the animals were fed and secure. The fire-breather was starting a campfire for the night’s meal.

Felix admired the huge black and red tent that had risen in the time they were gone. The big top: his haven, his sanctuary, his home.

“Take me to the high wire. I need to practice,” Brianna said curtly.

Felix smirked, “I don’t know. I kind of like your legs wrapped around—“ She hit him and jumped off his shoulders, then ran off into the tent. Felix felt a bump rise beneath his palm right when a knife came flying at him. He ducked quickly, falling off the unicycle, right as the flaming knife zipped by him and landed on the target.

“Sorry,” Jason called out.

That guy… Brianna thought running through the Big Top.

Brianna welcomed the sight of the huge black and red tent: Her home. She headed straight for the ladder that led up to the high wire. Without hesitation, Brianna climbed straight to the top. On the platform before the wire, looking out over the tent and all of its occupants, Brianna almost smiled. I’m on top of the world.

The high wire itself wasn’t scary. Not at all. Brianna walked across it two times without pausing. She’d always had good balance. Brianna continued her rounds on the wire. I remember when we were kids, Felix and I used to race to see who was faster. I always ran on top of the wall with him on the ground riding his unicycle. Brianna swayed on the tightrope. She shook her head and took a deep breath, clearing her mind of all distraction. Even if it isn’t scary, I’d rather not fall right now. She made her way back along the thin rope.

Brianna practiced a few more times, then decided to take a break. She sat with her chin on her knees, observing the others preparing their acts. There were the lion tamers, the knife thrower, and so many others. So many acts taken to the extreme. So many ways for people to get hurt. She saw Felix avoid on of Jason’s flaming knives. Knife throwing. That is pretty dangerous.

The 10 year old Roselyn sat in the third row of seats watching all the acts practice. She got up and sighed.
I should probably be practicing too. Roselyn walked over to her special mat, her short, blonde hair bouncing behind her. She took a look at the sketch she made of her and the new trick she'd wanted to try.
Okay. I can do this. Roselyn's heart pounded. She was nervous. Her new tricks didn't always turn out so well. A couple months ago, while trying her newest sketched trick, her leg slipped out from under her, and she broke her arm. Those months were torture; Roselyn missed preforming in three of the shows that month.
"I can do this," Roselyn assured herself outloud, and started to practice.

Foxx looked in the cracked mirror as he brushed his teeth. The water was dirty but that didn't matter. His teeth were part of his act. He had to growl, snarl, and just act scary to the crowd. So, he wanted his teeth to shine while he snarled and growled. Foxx spit into a bucket. "Ahh!" He said. He walked over the the cage, one of his favorite props to use. "Hello again," Foxx said as he started to check the cage for any 'flaws.'

Nikkala walked along the sidewalk from the supermarket. She had just spent the monthly $50 she earned from babysitting and dogwalking. Since her parents died, she had found ways to take care of herself. Nikki gripped the few groceries tighter. The cans of food, drinks and water would only last her the month. Her parents left her all the money in their will, which was not much. Only a couple thousand for her to survive. Before they died, Mother worked for $100 per session to train her. Father lost his job and whenever he could, worked part-time. No matter how hard he tried, Father just could not land a solid job. The bank forced them from their home into a shabby apartment, where she now lived. After the passing of her parents, the manager helped her by reducing the apartment costs by half.

Nikki cleared her head and focused on the crowd of people in front of the television store. She pushed her way through and watched the odd commercial that was airing. The ad finished and the creepy voice rang in her ears.

"The Twisted Hearts Circus. It's devestatingly entertaining."

Nikkala made her way back to the apartment, groceries in hand.
With her free hand, she dug her hand in her jeans pocket and pulled out the key. She unlocked the door, then closed it behind her. Nikki set the bags on the table. Nothing would perish too quickly. She sat down and logged onto her Mother's old laptop. She sighed, and placed her fingers on the home keys. In the search bar, she typed 'The Twisted Hearts Circus location'. Nikkala printed off a few maps and studied them closely.
I wonder if they are hiring...

Jason ran over to Felix after apologizing, Damn I almost killed the ring leader, I've got to watch the sidelines before I hurt someone.

"Hey sorry about that Felix, I didn't mean to almost rip your brains out." Felix's eyes widened and he took a pen and wrote what Jason said on his already tattooed arm. Jeez, he's always so interested in ways to die.

While Felix continued to write as the morbid ideas came rushing into his mind about death by knife thrower (his grin growing wider with every idea), which did make Jason a little uncomfortable, the young knife thrower looked around. Everyone was hard at work and then someone caught his eye. The strongman, only two years older then him. Jason watched as he lifted huge boxes out of trucks, shirtless. He felt his face heat up and he looked away, No! Why am I thinking like that it's so wrong!

Felix wrote at least fifteen things on his arm and finished the last one, "The knife gets thrown into your stomach and the paramedics rush to save the victim but it's too late. He bled to death." Then he looked at Jason who was blushing for some odd reason, "Well I'm going to go check on everything else, okay?" Then he looked up at the high wire, "Hey give me a knife," he said to Jason.

Slowly Jason handed him a small blade and Felix threw it at Brianna. It landed right above her head on the wooden pole behind her. She flinched and she looked down at him, eyes filled with fury.

"Meet me in my trailer later, we need to plan something for your act. Don't worry nothing creepy," he winked and stuck his tongue out. Then he cycled away right before the knife came flying back at him.

Jason picked it up and waved sorry to Brianna.

Roselyn sat down, exhausted. After practicing so long, she finally mastered her newest trick. She looked up from her mat, and spotted Felix, walking to his trailer.

Roselyn approached the Ring Master. Her blonde hair bounced behind her as she walked toward Felix. She was one of the "freaks", as they were called.
"I finished my trick!" She announced happily, her emerald eyes sparkled with excitement. She was young, a mere 11 years of age; however, her talents amazed and mystified people.

On his command, the skillful contortionist twisted her body in ways gymnasts thought impossible. After performing for Felix, she eagerly waited for his criticizm.

Nikki looked at her map, and the picture of her destination. She moved the papers away from her face and stared at the full size circus. Some trailers, a couple tents of various sizes, and from the looks of it, the largest black and red tent was for the main events. Nikki took the amazing sight in and went straight to the biggest tent.

Awed, her mouth ajar, Nikkala watched everyone practicing their acts. The firebreather, knife thrower, tightrope walker, and so many more. Her wandering eyes caught sight of a small girl talking to, from the looks of it, the Ringmaster.
I should talk to him before someone gets suspicious of my being here.

Nikkala confidently walked over to the Ringmaster, unnoticed. The child seemed happy. Almost excited to be criticized.
What does she do? Nikki thought.
As if to answer her question, the young girl bent and twisted herself. Nikkala looked away. That looks so painful. How can anyone do that without feeling pain?

Looking back, the girl left and headed to the large tent. Nikkala stepped forward, toward the Ringmaster.
"Hello, sir?" She asked, and caught his attention, "Are you hiring?"

Brianna’s eyes were dark with rage. She could feel anger radiating off her body in waves. Stupid Felix! Stupid! Brianna shakily breathed in, slowing the rush of adrenaline in her blood. There were better ways to catch my attention!

Felix had dodged the knife, and cycled away like nothing happened. Brianna scanned the circus below her. Already, Felix was stopped for an evaluation of an act: Roselyn’s contortionist act. The ringmaster, never alone. Inhaling a deep breath, Brianna controlled her remaining anger toward Felix. There will be opportunities, she thought, I just have to bide my time.

Brianna caught sight of someone- a stranger- approaching Felix. Brianna walked across the high wire to get a closer look. What do we have here?

Felix looked at the girl who appraoched him, "I'm always hiring, but you are attractive enough to be hired, though I'd like to see you in the make-up."

"What?"

Bending down to her eye level Felix gave her that creepy smile of his, "So, how would you like to have my children?"

~

Jason stopped practicing on the target and decided to see what Rosie was doing, he saw her running off towards the huge tent away from Felix and smiled.

"Hey Rosie!"

She turned around and smilied, "Hi Jason!" Then she put her hands on the ground, flipped so her feet dangled in front of herr face and ran on her hands towards him. Jason smiled and picked her up while flipping her right side up. He had cared for this girl since she joined the circus at such a young age. They were like siblings.

"Do you have any new triks to show me?"

Nikkala stumbled back, stunned. Mainly appaled at his offer, and shocked because of how young he was, and running a circus all his own.
Focus, there is something more important at the moment

Regaining her posture, Nikkala stepped toward Felix.
"You said you were hiring, correct? I would be pleased to work for your circus. How many jobs are presently available?"
PostPosted: Sat Jun 25, 2011 10:01 pm

"Uh-huh!" Roselyn said, with excitement in her voice, "Wanna see?"

"Sure! Let's see it, Rosie!" Jason said, and put her on the ground.

"Here's one!"

Roselyn took a couple steps back and stood there with her hands to her sides. She went into a backbend, then walked her hands toward her feet, and stuck her head under her legs. Rose waved her arms.

"Tada!" She exclaimed.

Foxx opened his "cage" and climbed in. He walked around in it for a while. Then, he wrapped his paws around two of the bars and started to "try" shaking them. He acted like he wanted to get out. Then, Foxx stopped and smiled.
"That should do it," He said as he climbed out and locked the cage.
