Okay, so I’ve decided to bare all the bones in this place. I’ve only haven’t really done it because I feel like I’m just complaining and all that, but maybe it just needs to be said. That aside, I’d like to bring up issues the Guild has had over the last two years and some suggestions we have so far. Please read through it and give your feedback, suggestions, ideas, etc.

1- Characters/Battle:

Right now we have a 4 Character limit in the Main Story. Should I bump it up to say, 6? I mean, there’s only a small amount of us…and I’d ideally like to get at least 1 of each class going before I get battle ready. Also I’m even having trouble playing 4 characters…so it’s really up to you guys.

We almost always have imbalanced teams. No one wants to be Heavies/Soldiers/Demos/etc. It makes me sad that they don’t ever get the love. Which ties into Battle. Not having all the classes means we wait and wait and wait, and the Battle RRers just sit there because they only want battles and all that, and it’s really annoying, you’re hogging slots that other RPers can probably take.

Possible Solutions:

-Have an unlimited character roster, much like White Room but make a ‘Battle Roster’ when I think it’s time to battle. When all nine classes for each team are filled, the battle will start. That way, people aren’t really forced to choose a class, but it also encourages people to at least have a class.
-Stick to the 2 of each class, but bump the character limit to 6. Again, have a ‘Battle Roster’ before each fight, yadda, yadda, yadda.
-Also, introduce an ‘In for a penny, in for a pound’ Rule. Meaning, if you’re only here for Battle, sorry, you’re going to have RP in the bases whether you like it or not. (Actually I’m 99% sure I’m implementing this.)

2- People/Time:

This is another big reason the RP keeps dying. Folks will make a post once a month and otherwise put it on hold for the rest of us. The majority of us are posting 2-3 Posts a night, maybe 2-3 nights a week. I understand you have a life, you have other things, but it’s not impossible. I go to school full-time. I have a social life. But I still can keep things going here. I also understand you may be at wall, or dry, or something.

Also, I’ve noticed a lot of people ‘Sticking to themselves’. I know you’re new and a little shy and all, but this is group RP. Eventually you’re gonna have to react with the rest of us.

Thirdly, seriously guys. Get to know one another. Chat your a** off in OOC, ask for Messengers or stuff. It helps to get an idea for possible plots, or even getting so pre-emptive ideas for characters…or end up Crack!RPing like myself.

Solutions:

-Don’t be afraid to ask another member to maybe re-write or post something, so that maybe you can work off it.
-I know my inbox is open, and I’m willing to give out my MSN or Skype if you just ask. It may not be for everyone else though.
-I make a Tinychat Room for TFI. That way no one is obligated to install an IM program. Just make a nickname and go! Anyone can come and go as they wish. I can also use Synchtube, which allows movies, as well.
-Stick to White Room. It may not be Canon, but it's there to pretty much let RPers blow off steam, or practice, or even just to get to know us.

3- Events:

I used to do Dice Rolls at every Gaian Event for the Guild, sometimes with a theme and whatnot. I like them ‘cause we met new potential recruits and had some crazy RPs. I know a lot of you aren’t into them though, so I’ve been doing them less and less. Not to mention the items have become very expensive to replace. (I have at least 3 of each TF2 themed item except for the new one.)

Solutions:

-I only just do it for Halloween. Go back to our roots.
-Stop doing them Entirely.
-Do them at random whenever I feel like. Trololololo.

And if there’s any other things, like I said, bring them up.

Well as I have mentioned, perhaps we could brush up on the rules for roleplaying a bit. :}

Alrighty then, I'm new to the Gaia RPing scene so please inform me if I am making retarded decisions.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 01, 2011 5:30 pm

Since I'm new I don't really think I should be saying anything, but these are my thoughts:

1. I think that six characters in the main story would do fine for the time being, considering the amount of active people within the guild. I was actually going to make a Attack Class character (Possibly Soldier, still trying to make up my mind though) so to help balance out the Support Classes. I apologize for choosing an Engineer as my first class...I should of realized how many Support Classes there were.

2. Sorry that my interacting with the rest of the guild is a bit slow, I just don't want to step on any toes or feel like I own the place.

3. The events sound like they would spice up the roleplay greatly, though I haven't actually experienced these events so I'm not sure how they go within this specific guild. I remember several guilds that ran in chapters and arcs, allowing for different stories to unfold and provide a bit more narrative. I'm simply saying that we shouldn't be afraid to stray a bit from the established story, though there is very little of it. However, for all I know, you have done this already and I seem like an idiot right now.

According to the roster, all we need is three more BLU members. A pyro, a scout and a soldier. I'd be willing to make a Soldier character, will anybody do the rest?
PostPosted: Wed Jun 01, 2011 6:09 pm

MeronRamune: Sure, I'll let you know. It's a little different from the Tumblr RP. The Main Story will have a slightly more serious tone to it, while The White Room is pretty much what we do on Tumblr.
(IE- Kar trolls everyone, Rhys smokes five packs a day and ponders his life choices...that stuff.)
Spacu is trying to hop on here as well, and Andy/Levi's RPer is here. They're Jeff. So you've got some familiar faces.

SnorlaxPunk: 1- I met with the other two, and we're upping the limit to 6 a person in the Main, with a roster of 18. If and when more people come in we'll adjust accordingly. We'll implement the battle check-in, and so forth.

2- Jump on in! We don't bite. If anyone does have an issue with a post, they usually will let you know, or I will if I get to it first. We like trying to help each other here. As long as you don't come in god-moding and all that, we're fine.

3- We tried a Halloween Arc this year, with not that great success. (Older Threads are Archived in the Recycle Bin. Rise of Frankenbro was the Halloween one.) Normally it's held in the Event Forum and counts as White Room, so it doesn't necessarily affect the Main Plot.

SuitAndTie: You've got six characters. Do as you will. Which means I'm bringing in Nathaniel and...I'm not sure if I want Nik or Maddie for RED.
I'm still organizing everything, but by the weekend I'll officially update everything. (Also that's not True-- Remy and Lando will be moved to White Room. Jin hasn't much time to post, so I told him I'd spare him the trouble and move them there.)

EVERYONE: Due to some issues, I am updating the Roleplay Guide. Some things we allowed before are being Granfathered out. When I repost it, please give it a second look.

Thanks for all the feedback guys I appreciate it.

BUMPING DIS s**t.

Clearly we need more members to get this place more active. In my opinion, I think the reason why we don't have many members is because of all the required reading that must be done before even sending in a join request. I've known about this place for months, but only recently joined because I was a bit intimidated with all the rules and thought I might mess up when I first found the place. I know the rules are there for a reason, but like I said, it's intimidating to others with such high standards.
That's my two cents.

I was toying with the idea of making a BLU pyro or soldier. If you do a Solly I'll do a Firebug.

We don't just put the wall of text on the front page for our own health, dearling.

Let me tell you the story of TFI's first ultimate demise.

A long time ago, longer now than it seems, there were two inspired young souls who were chatting on a TF2 thread.
'Hey I have a guild that has been sitting collecting dust!' said the one young soul, 'Wouldn't it be great if we made it a TF2 inspired roleplay guild?'
'That's a wonderful idea!' the second young soul cried, and hand in hand the two souls set off cleaning and prettying up the old guild until it shone like the top of the Chrysler building.
Soon, the two began recruiting other young souls who wished to join in on the action. After a few weeks of messaging people and posting on different threads and gathering a lot of other TF2 roleplayers, from the 30 or so people who had joined, one stepped forward.
'So, this is all great and wonderful' the member said, 'But what would really be smashing is some type of rules to hold this place together - since I am a literate roleplayer I'd much rather have some literacy level in place.'
'Right then, we'll start on a list of rules.' the first young soul replied, before turning to her partner in crime. 'We really ought to have something in place anyways.'
So a list of rules was set in place, and all was well in the guild for a bit.
Then three members came fourth, with a list of grievances against another member, and the rules were revamped.
The second young soul decided to jump the ship at the request of the three members who were unsatisfied with the rules of TFI, and a third young soul was pulled in.

From there what I understand is that TFI slowly became a victim of deserters and people who gradually lost interest in TF2 and left the guild without ne'ry a notice. So the first young soul sighed heavily, and decided that a hiatus was greatly needed. So she set up a notice on the front page of the guild - mostly as a first defense against people who typed like their fingers were severed at the second knuckle and those who wanted to saturate their every post with angst and emo, and others who wanted a spy dressed as a maid who spends more time taking it up the butt from a tentaspy than doing their job.

So, as you can see, the wall o' texty, lovingly called The Guard Dog by some is really a rather friendly old canine. Please do not be intimidated by his sometimes growl-ey and bite-ey aggressiveness. Once you let him sniff your hand, he's perfectly fine with letting you in. :3

Thanks Jeff, you've put it better than I was going to say it.

Essentially it was set up so that instead of reading the rules after joining, you do it before. And it assures us you completely understand what we're expecting, so that people can make the choice of whether or not they want to commit to this. It also helps out to weed out trolls and whatnot. And considering this this a semi lit/lit roleplay, reading is somewhat a requirement. (I've stated even in the Orientation 'You need to get rid of that tl;dr mindset. It will only take you so far.')

Not to mention everything is all spelled out there, so that if we do turn someone down and they get offended and message us, we can state it's right there in the page. There is method behind the madness.

...Not to mention if you can't handle reading a page full of rules, how are you going to stand reading the longer paragraph posts when this thing starts back up full force? Some of us can get rather verbose.

Now that you explain it, I realize that, I do, and I'm not trying to say that it's a bad idea, because I understand that the guild has standards, and I'm not saying high standards for a guild is a bad thing, because good god there are some stupid people out there. I'm more or less trying to explain why there are less members.
Perhaps if the rules and home page for the guild were organized in a more simpler way, like maybe place the "Easy to read guide" right below the "Love of Saxton Hale" statement. Maybe the Team Roster could be on the front page as well.
Another thing is that some roleplayers can't think of three or four good sentences for a post every time, and don't post until they can think of something, and eventually this ends up as not posting at all. This might be a problem for people who are waiting on someone to reply, because they can't post until the other does, and this creates inactivity.

I don't know, I'm just saying what I've observed, I don't know if it will help you guys or not. If it seems that I'm suggesting things, I'm sorry.

Again, another, albeit a more aggravated, method behind the madness. Imagine this: A well meaning person, though short of an attention span, comes across this place, and sends a request without a single thought. Now, your request box is getting nothing but invites that just say nothing or just say 'I LOVE TF2!' and you turn them down, as that's your policy. Now you log in the next day or so, and find yourself with an inbox full of people complaining why you didn't accept them. And then have to explain to each one that they didn't read the front page, and after the two weeks are up, just read it and resend the request. Ad nauseum.

And contrary to belief, we've had over 70 members at one time. We could've had this place going ages ago, but they weren't being active. I've made plenty of chances to jump in, and they either posted once and dropped off the earth, or were part of the first wave that left, or just didn't even post at all. Since having 60+ inactive people does drain our account unnecessarily, I removed them once I had our last activity check.

I get what you're saying though, maybe I might need to re-word it a little kinder, though it was meant to grab attention and show how important it was to do this.

As for the waiting, that's what we're trying to cut down worth getting more dedicated RPers. I've had that happen plenty of times when the character was not around and I sat their waiting to respond. If they fall of the earth, move on, do something else. In fact I think I had her even grab the coffee from them or something. There's other things you can use, internal dialogue, memories, flashbacks. Mention something that someone might take notice, their clothing, or action. (Like Eunice's stuttering. I took that and based my post of that as Maddie. And Hell, Kar was bare-a** naked walking around the base.)

Unless you're talking to someone (since you're feeding off them for dialogue), I think three lines or more is good enough for a post.

And if you're having trouble, like I stated before, step back, and have a think. I mean you may end up making some one else who's ready to respond too, so consider that. If you're really, really, REALLY dry of ideas make a post in OOC that you need help. One of us can and will try to make something to work off on.

And I know I can't make everyone happy, but I do try. And I know there's no pleasing people. That sometimes things get in the way and they can't commit like they used to. Then you just let me know and you'll be removed to the White Room so that things don't get congested. And like I said the other night, I don't take offense to people who leave, because if they can't do it or just otherwise unhappy, I understand and respect that. Such is the life of a Guild. But otherwise, I do my best to keep things going and try to make things go smooth.

In addition: If I can manage, I might do either a roll or a 50/50 during the summer Event. Not sure yet. Participation is optional, but encouraged. (C'mon, free items/gold?)
