ESOL class is common in America, basically, ESOL = english speakers of other languages. 1 teacher, has a small class (ages up to 18 ) And teaches them English. But, she/he could have students who speak 10 different languages.
How do they teach English yet dont know the foreign languages needed?
I'm not sure about ESOL, but in the Japanese language school I went to they had lots of people who spoke different languages. The teachers used lots of pictures, and it helped that the class "textbook" was comprised of two books. One was the main text, which was all in Japanese, and then there was the translation notes, which were in lots of different languages. The class was all in Japanese, but they used a lot of pictures as I said.
