In the beginning was God. God contemplated himself and produced a pair of beings called Aeons that resembled him. These beings contemplated God and and produced another pair of beings. This process continues until we get to Sophia (wisdom) and the Logos (mind/word/thought). Sophia sought to know God on her own and gave birth to the universe of matter. From the universe of matter came Yaldaboth, the lion-faced god. She was ashamed of what she created and tried to hide it and fell into the material world.
Yaldaboth believing he was alone but having some recollection that he came from somewhere else modeled the universe after what he remembered. He was able to "tap" into his fallen mother to produce the universe and when he was finished he declared to everything that he was the one and only god. Creation was confused as to why he would need to make such a decree and the Aeons took offence to this.
One of the Aeons came down and showed to Creation that there was something greater than Yaldaboth and put him to shame. Yaldaboth and his crew wanting to capture this Aeon and dominated modeled something resembling it. This is the creation of man. Yaldaboth was able to give it a body and mind but was unable to bring it to life. Sophia trying to help the Aeons and return home breathed life into man and made a human form for herself called Zoe. She gave birth to a child that would be called "the serpent". Yaldaboth and his crew were scared at man coming to life without them and the presence of Zoe. They went to make Zoe theirs by defiling and raping her but Sophia left the shell and entered into the tree of the fruit of knowledge of moral good and evil. The shell left was Eve. The authorities then lied to Adam and told him that Eve came from his rib. They told him not to eat the fruit of that tree or he would die.
Well the serpent saw Eve and thought it was his mom. When Eve didn't recognize the serpent the serpent told Eve to eat the fruit and she would remember who she was and to have Adam eat of the fruit as well. Like waking up from a drunken stupor they remembered who the were and recognized the monsters that were trying to keep them trapped. Though Yaldaboth could not curse their spirits he placed various curses on them and made life much more difficult for them. The illusions and confusions would continue until the Savior would come to bring experience to wisdom so wisdom could be perfected and return home.
