It had been a while since Jaki had been around his old homestead. Once he was old enough he had gone off on his own, and spent quite a bit of time exploring past what he had seen as a kit. It was just like him though, even as a kit when would wander a little too far off for a little too long, he became homesick. That was the reason that he was heading back toward the old fox hole that he had lived in with his family. He was hoping that despite the fact that he and his siblings had grown up that his dad would still be in the same place. The other male kitsune had been the one reliable thing in his life and it wouldn't be a good time for him to fail Jaki now.

As he wandered something caught his eye. Something gleaming greedily in the sunlight. Sharp grey eyes turned on it and he noticed a small, flat, golden circle. "Hmm...?" Cautiously he padded over, curiosity gleaming in his eyes. "And what do we have here?" Gently he pawed at the object, wrapping his soft padded foot around it and dragged it out of the patch of grass it lie hidden in. "Mm... Someone must be missing you something fierce." A neck covered in thick, shaggy fur dripped down and lowered the male kitsune's face down to the object. "Finders keepers I suppose." Firmly he took the coin in his mouth and started to pad along once more.

User Image"And I thought I was the only thieving kitsune left around these parts."

Kijo had noticed the coin a while ago, and, thinking that it might have been something her father had stolen long ago, was sitting and staring at it and trying to recognize it. She hadn't moved in a while, as she had lost herself in memories of long ago, when they had all lived together. Soon after she had left, her two brothers had wondered off as well, followed by their mother. She knew her father was still somewhere in this wood, and she saw her mother occasionally as well, though she wasn't sure she was still living her. She hadn't seen a single hair of her brothers.

Suddenly, someone else had also stumbled upon this treasure and taken it for himself. Not that she cared, it wasn't important to her, it just felt odd to be suddenly pulled from her memories in the past back to the present.

She stared at this kitsune, waiting for his reaction, still half trying to pull out of her memories.

Soft ears twitched and swiveled around. Jaki was sure that he had heard something that sounded less like an annoying bird or squirrel and more like another voice. Blinking the large black kitsune turned around to have a look. Surprisingly the source of the sound wasn't so far off as he thought and he wondered how it was that he had missed it in the first place. It had been dark that night so long ago, and Jaki could scarcely be sure that this kitsune before him was the same onē-san he had been so many nights ago. After all he had seen neither hide nor hair of the other kitsune that's life had supposedly been changed by such a fool-hearted male kit. A splash of red among silver fur and the oddest markings he had ever seen on another kit to date. And thought she may not remember or even recognize him, he would never forget that silly adult kitsune who had been so offended and moved by his words.

"Kijo-san?" Ventured the younger kit from around the coin in his mouth. He had forgotten that he had it in his maw at first and carefully he dropped it, stepping on it with his paw, and awaited the other Kitsune to speak. Perhaps he was mistaken. Perhaps this might well be one of the siblings that Kijo had spoken of, but he doubted it. He could never forget a hide. It had to be her. "...Is that you?"

Kijo peered hard at this kitsune. Had she become that infamous in the kitsune world? Or maybe someone she had briefly met before? She didn't remember meeting a kitsune this big with this color and decoration. But maybe she did, she wasn't really sure, and she became less sure the more she looked at him.

"You.... Who are you? Do I know you?"

He chuckled briefly. His thinking had been correct. She really didn't recognize him. It had been some time ago that they met so it was to be expected. He really didn't affect her life as much as she claimed that he did. After all, his coloration was very much the same since he was young and still she did not recognize him. It just proved to him that most other kitsune were forgetful or stupid. One of those two. Still this meeting couldn't stop his nature, or dampen his mood and he shook his head. "Don't ask stupid questions. Of course you know me, onē-san." He huffed rolling his eyes at her. "Maybe you're just so old now that you've gone senile. How about a hint: My name starts with a Jay and ends with a Aki."

Two separate pictures had suddenly overlapped in her head. The small kit she had met that had pulled her out of the day-in day-out rut she had been in, that had inspired her to change her life, had become this sleek young man standing in front of her. She didn't know how she didn't see it, now that it had been made so clear to her. Perhaps she had been focusing too much on that small form and not enough on the fact that he would inevitably grow up. Either way, she had met him again.

She gave a short barking laugh at his sarcasm. She had missed hearing such heavy sarcasm.

"Of course I remember you, but how can you expect me to remember you by your face when it looks just like every other white-and-black kitsune ever born?"

Jaki... How could I forget you? As if she'd say that.

"I see you've been off growing up. What brings you back here, to this crappy neck of the woods?"

Jaki rolled his shoulders and settled himself down, his tail wrapped nearly around his paws. That was a good come back, for sure. And he wasn't really sure what it was he should come back with without sounding redundant. Then it came to him. "We don't all look alike, your eyes are just going." Grinned Jaki, the tip of his tail twitching in an amused fashion.

Curiously he cocked his head at the other kitsune and shrugged. "You could say that I'm... homesick. I was headed back to see if my dad was still around here. I could ask you the same really, are you living in this crappy neck of the wood?"

Kijo bark-laughed once more, but didn't provide another comeback. She knew it would never end if she did.

"Homesick, huh? You? Who would've guessed."

She paused to grin at his emphasis on the word 'crappy.' Maybe she wouldn't completely bite back her sarcasm.

"Maybe if you were older, you'd understand. Because this place is so crappy, no one wants to come here. It makes a great place for a hideout. Whenever I want to steal something, I can come back here and hide it or destroy it as I please, or hide myself if need be, but I haven't been in that position yet."

Jaki shrugged his shoulders. It just went to show how much this older kitsune actually knew about him. Next to nothing, other than the fact that he was an obnoxious little kit way back when. "Yes, homesick. I happen to love my family dearly, despite the fact that they're a pain in the a**."

"Whatever suits you I suppose." Muttered the multicolored, dark kitsune as he got to his paws once more. Once more he picked up the coin in his maw, and started to turn towards home. "Well, it was nice seeing you again onē-san." This whole encounter was feeling rather awkward, so he figured he would make his way home while he was still ahead. What was he suppose to say to this kitsune after all this time? The two of them really didn't have that much in common to begin with after all. "Enjoy your crappy neck of the woods then, and I guess I'll catch you around, huh?

Kijo frowned. Apparently this kitsune couldn't take jokes about his family. And he was giving her the cold shoulder. Maybe she had gotten the wrong impression of him earlier. But then, she had hardly met him, she barely got an impression at all.

If he wanted to leave, let him.

"If you want to, you can 'catch' me. If you don't, I suppose you won't."

Kijo stalked off her own way back to her den.

Her thoughts returned to her family.

Jaki sighed. He had been raised "better" than this supposedly and he stopped in the middle of his walk. Sighing he dropped the coin and turned around, hearing the nagging voice of his sister telling him to be more polite. "Hey, hey, wait. Onē-san. Wait." Once more he stepped on it and settled himself down, his tail wrapping around his legs. He really wasn't sure of what to say to this older Kitsune. As he told himself time and time again, they had met such a long time ago that even if they had something in common then, the likelihood of that thing still being a common ground was very slim. But it was worth a shot.

"How about your family? How are they doing now? I know that you were leaving... but... Ya know. I'm just curious." He wouldn't apologize. There was no point. He didn't do anything wrong. Nothing at all.

Kijo paused, flicked her ears, and turned around to look at Jaki. She was surprised, confused. She saw a glimpse of the child she had met so long ago. She didn't know how to respond, so she decided she would just answer his question.

"I couldn't really tell you. My brothers have left and I haven't seen them. My father still lives here, and he's still up to his old thieving tricks. I've seen my mother a few times as she's wondered by here, I know she's doing the same old thing: whatever the hell she wants. I... I miss my brothers. I guess I'm just as homesick as you. Though, not so much for my parents as for my brothers."

She sighed and laid her ears back. Here she was again, spilling her thoughts to this kitsune as if some unseen force was pulling it from within her. What was it about Jaki that made her like this, made her want to tell her feelings? Acknowledge her feelings? She wasn't sure whether it pissed her off, or relieved her.

Jaki nodded his head politely as he listened to her words. So this old bat could get homesick too. For shame that she mocked is feelings. This thought made Jaki chuckle to himself. "Well, I can't say I envy you that." The younger Kitsune stated sincerely. "I don't much miss my little devil of a brother, Satin, so much but I do miss my sisters." Needless to say, Satin and him had different views on how their family should be. He wanted his real father, and Jaki just wanted to leave it the way it was. There were countless fights between the two over this petty thing that it left Jaki with a few bitter feelings towards his own brother, despite the fact that he loved all his family. "Brothers are a pain but at least they're good for something, sometimes, huh? Like using as a log when your claws are a little too long."

He smiled at Kijo, his tail shifting to cover his hind paws further. "Have you tried to look for them? I'm sure if they have attitude like yours it wouldn't be hard to get a lead on them."

Kijo laughed deeply. There were countless times she'd wanted to sink her claws into Akki and pop his huge ego. "Yes, brothers can make very good logs for clawing."

She grew pensive. "It's basically not impossible to know where Akki is, you can see his ego for miles. He makes sure everyone knows he's there. Ashura, though, can hide pretty well unless he freaks out. Of course, I can find almost anything I want to. A thief has to be able to, if she wants to be any good." She kept her tone flat and shrugged to show that she wasn't boasting, merely stating a truth.

"What about your family? Are they as easy to find as mine?" After a split second she felt the need to add something. She added aloof tones to her voice and pointed her muzzle toward the side. "Not that I care much, but since you asked me I thought I'd return the favor." She threw a quick glance at him before pointing her eyes back the same way as her muzzle.
