1. Intro 2. Setting 3. Rules 4. Character Skeleton 5. Conditions 6. Announcements England, 1883
Hidden among hills and woodland lies an aged but beautiful manor surrounded by tall stone walls. It seems pleasant enough from a distance, but a closer inspection would reveal barred windows, and iron spikes atop the surrounding wall. The tall dark gate at the entrance to this manor is anything but inviting, and is nearly always closed and locked. This is Madame Lenora's Academy for Young Ladies.
On the rare occasion the gate does open, it is most often accompanied by the arrival of young unrefined girls, who leave the school years later as well-mannered and sophisticated ladies.
Near the west side of the school's surrounding walls is a small area scattered with benches that is most often used for art, French, or Latin classes when the Headmistress has allowed it. The interior of the school is much more welcoming than the cold stone walls of the exterior, with warm- but well worn hallways and rooms adorned with beautiful paintings and embroidered curtains. The entrance hall is nothing less than extravagant, with intricate carpets and two carved stone pillars hugging the entrance of the school's ballroom- a vast space where guests to the school are entertained, and ladies learn to dance without tripping over their own heels.
The woods surrounding the school are strictly forbidden, and the Headmistress has guaranteed that the walls provide a barrier for anyone trying to enter or leave without permission. Many of the school's elder girls know otherwise, however, and there have been rumors of midnight escapades and gatherings near the forest's edge. There has been talk of dancing, singing, and even drinking at these gatherings, and the girls giggle about such things in the hallways of the schools, enjoying the idea of such forbidden things.
But there are rumors whispered more quietly, and with a twinge of unease. In hushed tones students talk of punishments and hazings- tests for girls who wish to join the White Feathers. Some swear that they hear the screams and cries of unfortunate initiates, forced to perform torturous and humiliating tasks to prove how far they are willing to go to obtain their small freedom.
Surely such horrid things couldn't be true.

2. Follow Gaia's TOS, and stay PG-13. It's just common sense.
3. You may have a maximum of two characters. If you see an imbalance in the Lady to Gent ratio, please create your character with that in mind.
4. At least two paragraphs per post. I understand if you are having writer's block, but posting one or two quick sentences is a big no no. That in mind, I'd much rather have quality than quantity.
5. PM me all profiles, and please highlight this: Title PMs "I've Got a White Feather"
6. This is a late Victorian based roleplay, so please stick to the time period and be aware of how the bulk of the society thinks and feels about what your character may or may not be doing.
7. Don't be afraid to ask questions if you are confused or need clarification. You can post them in the OOC thread or PM me, and I'll do my best to answer them.
8. Be polite to others in the RP, and most importantly, remember to have fun!

1. Intro 2. Setting 3. Rules 4. Character Skeleton 5. Conditions 6. AnnouncementsCharacter SkeletonsLadiesThe young girls attending Headmistress Lenora's school come from varied backgrounds, for different reasons, and often with different intentions. Many girls are sent to the school (usually against their own wishes) by parents expecting polite and well-educated young ladies to return. Some come of their own free will, hoping the Academy may turn them into the elegant, well-mannered ladies of society they aspire to be. Among those attending Lenora's Academy exist a fairly small group of girls that call themselves the Ladies of the White Feather. These girls, unimpressed with the ideas both the academy and society have for them, sneak out each night to enjoy a freedom they will likely never know again when they leave the gates of the school. Word spreads quickly here, and whispered rumors have begun to circulate within the walls of the old building. Some say the members of this make-believe group behave like gypsies and savages, while others secretly hope that they might be invited one night to join the ladies and indulge in otherwise forbidden pleasures. [/size] GentlemenThe only men allowed within the school grounds are those that do laborious work that the women cannot. This usually consists of gardeners, groundskeepers, and the kitchen staff, among other things. The girls are forbidden to associate with these men, but despite that, both the White Feathers and certain troublesome girls tend to make deals with them often. Though not all of these men are morally corrupted, quite a few of them will sell alcohol, and other prohibited items to the girls who pay for such things. Very often, these fellows will join the Ladies of the White Feather during their late night escapades. Naturally, with whispered rumors of indecent acts occurring deep in the woods at night, Lenora keeps a keen eye on the male staff, ensuring that their contact with the students is nearly nonexistent. The afternoon was absolutely beautiful. In the sky the sun drooped lower and lower, and although a slight breeze might have chilled anyone walking the school grounds, the day was still pleasantly warm. On a bench in one of the gardens closest to the chapel, a young woman sat basking in the late afternoon sunlight, seemingly not bothered by the occasional gust that would pull stray locks from her intricate braids.
One might have guessed that the girl was sleeping- her eyes were closed and on her face was the serene expression of someone in a pleasant dream. As much as Abigail would have liked to stay sitting in the sun, it was almost dusk, and staying out much longer would only get her in trouble. With an annoyed sigh, she stood up and smoothed her skirts, starting the walk back toward the manor. Quite a few girls were making their way back to the gilded prison, casting final wistful gazes at the retreating sun as they stepped inside.
Abigail was just as reluctant to leave the beautiful afternoon behind, and so decided to take a small detour through the kitchens. By the time she reached the side of the manor, and stepped inside, all that was left of the day was a fiery glow on the horizon.
The kitchen staff glanced up in surprise as she entered, but after a moment they went back to their work preparing dinner, pretending not to see the young woman as she stepped over to a cook just a year or two younger than herself. Reaching over the teen's shoulder as he tried to focus on the dough he was kneading, she plucked a red apple from a basket of fruit, and bit into it with a pleasant smile.
The girl giggled quietly as juice dribbled down her chin, and finally the boy was forced to glance at her and stutter a greeting, "Miss A-Abigail."
"Hello Marcus."
"D-did you need somethin', o-or..."
"Do I need a reason to drop by and say hello?"
"I'm s'pposin' not, bu-"
"Marcus? You wouldn't happen to have a cloth or rag?" The boy had been trying to avoid meeting her eyes, and looking up, he seemed to have a small shock before he nodded furiously and ran to grab a cloth for the young lady. Most of the eyes in the kitchen were now on the two as Marcus returned and held the makeshift napkin out to her. A mischievous look came into the girl's eyes as she stepped forward and leaned toward the boy, causing his cheeks to flush slightly, "Thank you."
"M-miss?"
"For the rag, Marcus."
"Oh. R-right.. Yer welcome, Miss Abigail." By now the boy's face was as red as the apple in the young woman's hand, and after carefully wiping the juice from her chin and lips, she gave him a small wink before heading toward the door leading to the main hall, "I can see you're busy. I'll leave you alone- but maybe we can talk later. Bonsoir, mon ami."
The girl left quietly, and letting out a held breath, the red-faced young man went back to his business, while the others in the kitchen were left chuckling about his flustered conversation with Abigail.
Though her little show in the kitchen would have likely earned her a slap if Lenora had seen it, the girl was far from done with mischief making. Tonight, she recalled with excitement, the Ladies of the White Feather would sneak silently into the woods to enjoy themselves in ways that might have made the Headmistress drop dead from shock if she knew anything about it. Thankfully, the girls hadn't yet been caught, and it was Abigail's job to make sure it stayed that way. With a smirk on those pretty lips of hers, she took another bite from the apple in her hand, and hoped the mere hours between now and the frolicking in the woods would go by quickly.

Ɛvàɲġȩɭiɲɇ Ƈʁɵʂȿwɵʁtħ "...people often ask me, if i've lost my mind..."◊ It was late afternoon, Saturday. Classes were finished and many girls had gone off to use there free time as they pleased within the confines of the school. Many girls were making they're way back into the building, relieved that there'd be no class the next day. But a few were still studying away in the library. The librarian, who did her best in overseeing the girls while they read and studied, somehow managed to overlook two young ladies occupying one of the far, dark corners of the library. She also failed to hear the soft giggles and light whines of protest coming from said corner.
"No p-please, Eva-Evangeline... Don't.." a meek voice whimpered out from the shadows.
"Oh, is this not to your liking Tabitha?" another voice cooed with a sly chuckle.
This white-haired vixen had the younger girl pinned to one of the bookshelves with absolute ease. Tabitha shuddered, feeling the older girls hot breath run down her neck as she spoke. "N-no, Evangeline, pl-please.." she tried again, a bit stronger this time, but was soon silenced by a harsh tug on her earlobe. Tabitha whined, unsure of how to react. Her eyes widened as she felt fingers trail up her spine.
"Hush. I'm sure you don't want to be caught in such a compromising position, now do you?"
Before Tabitha's resolve could be broken anymore, she was saved by the voice of the librarian, calling for everyone to exit the library, for she was closing it up early. Evangeline held the growl in her throat and leaned into the younger girl's ear once more. "I'll be sure to play with you again soon." Once this was spoken, she let the girl go, and sauntered her way from the dark corner, flicking a bit of white hair from her face calmly.
As she walked past the librarian, she caught the woman's eye, but only for a moment. She barely caught the smirk on the girl's face. But this was quickly forgotten as she saw Tabitha scurry past, looking flushed and disheveled, and quickly stopped her to scold her on her current state of dress.
Once she was on her way back to the main hall, a minute scowl graced her features. Though it wasn't noticeable, it was definitely there. Yes, Evangeline was in a rather cross mood, but she continued to walk with the grace she was taught never to walk without.
I hope this damned school burns to the a'cursed ground it was built upon. she thought angrily to herself as she turned the corner, walking down the main hall where some girls were sitting and talking amongst themselves. Evangeline walked over toward a wall and leaned back on it. Sure it was most unlady-like to lean like this, but she didn't care at the moment.
This is the forth time I've been interrupted because that damn library wants to close early. she thought, whilst looking at the others chatter away. The sight made her sick. I pray the meeting tonight will lighten my mood.
The meeting she was referring to, of course, was the nightly gathering of the Ladies of the White Feather, which she was apart of. She silently hoped that there'd be a new girl to haze, so she could release some of her anger and frustration on a poor, unsuspecting girl.
Or at least watch Abigail do it.◊"...i tell them 'yes, i have, and i like it very fine'...."

Maximillion ---------------------------------- ◄Maxi was snickering to herself as she walked away from Lenora's office. That entire hour was such tomfoolery, Maxi had a been trying to restrain her laughter as she imagined one of the girls falling into her rose bushes on purpose, yet it didn't exactly stop Lenora from ordering Maximillion to prune her rose bushes. Seriously, who tears up there outfit on a rose bush! Maybe some of the brambles around the walls but a rose bush?! Maxi, the grounds' gardener, began to have sinking suspicion that some of the girls were trying to get "him" in trouble with Lenora. She wasn't quite sure who it was, but she had a pretty good idea who might've been going to Lenora. Especially considering that she was currently leaving the library in a disheveled state, made Tabitha a more likely suspect out of the three or four. However, her recreation of scurrying away when she saw the gardener approaching confused Maxi. If she was innocent...why did she run? Made no sense, really, but Maximillion decided against following her since it was almost dinner and well, Maxi was terribly hungry.
Which was the main reason why she was currently making her way toward the kitchen instead of her little shed. She was sure that the cooks had some fruit left, and she couldn't wait to have a taste of a juicy red apple. She was so wrapped up in the sensuality of tasting the apple, well as sensuous as it could get, that she almost bumped into Marcus as he left the kitchen with a tray decorated with various fruits. Several apples just happened to be in the center. The poor boy's load rose higher than his head, deciding to help the young boy Maxi plucked off the top apple. Revealing "his" presence to Marcus, who simply said; "Ah I'm sorry Maximillion!" "'Tis quite alright Marcus, though what has you so distracted? You normally would've weaved around me." Maximillion said without skipping a beat as she followed little Marcus to the dinning room. "Max...Have you ever, erm, ever been in... L-love?"
Now this comment almost caused the gardener to stop in her, it did cause her to stop chewing for a second to make out what the boy said. After all the boy ended up whispering the last part, but Maxi picked up on little body language hints like his flushed cheeks. The stutter helped as well, though something obvious told Maxi to play it rather subtle. Shame it wasn’t her strong suit but she planned on trying to be as they continued walking to the dinning room. ”I have…would you be at liberty to explain more, or did you just want to know if I had the pleasure of experiencing it?”
“...Either?" ”Describe her to me, if you’re unsure about it.” Little Marcus thought quite a bit about how to describe the apple of his eye, and as he set the tray down at the dining table it finally came to him. Though being the cautious sort, he waited until Maximillion and him were alone before speaking back up. Maxi on the other hand, wasn't all that concerned about it, she was a teenager once before...though if she was honest with herself, they more then likely had different experiences. As they rounded a corner and began walking down an empty corridor back to the kitchen when Marcus began weaving an image of the girl he "loved".
"S-she has brilliant eyes, Max, like gems they are! Their luster would be of the highest quality if they were actual stones. They remind me of the forest during an afternoon in spring, so vibrantly green they are!" "Hmm anything else?" "Her hair is similar to the reds and oranges found within the setting sun...and she's just so sweet, Maxi!" "And would I happen to know this girl?" This part was probably crossing a line, but the lad seemed rather pleased that he got to talk about his feeling, so the gardener figured it was okay. "I believe she is in some of the same circles as that Irina girl you love, Max."
That was something Marcus shouldn't've said, the Irina bit. Sure, Maxi had an inkling that most of the staff knew about Irina's visits to her little shed but they weren't doing anything scandalous. Honest, Maximillion was just helping with her studies. Sure, it might've seemed as if they were having meetings, and if Maxi was honest with herself she did favor Irina more then anyone in the school, but she never thought it could be viewed as love or a tryst. Realizing the implications of Marcus knowing or assuming about "him" and Irina, caused Maxi's cheeks to flush as he quickly told him about the young man's description. "Honestly Marcus, it sounds like an infatuation, now if you'll excuse me."
Before the young cook could quietly protest an elder's opinion, Maxi backtracked throughout the corridor and exited the building through a nearby classroom. She needed time to sort her thoughts, and how to get Irina to visit her less and less. For both of their sakes. ► ---------------------------------- Crowe

Charity Rose Henley As the golden afternoon sun had slipped from sight Charity found herself re-dressing. Her plans had been simply to give herself a good scrub and be clean for the night to come, but Cole had somehow found her, and the risk of being caught was slim enough that Charity had again allowed him to have his way with her. He was a gardener, and she was a student. They shouldn't have been allowed to so much as glance at each other, yet when Charity had been only fourteen they had started meeting in secret, and only a few days from being fifteen Charity had allowed him into her bloomers. She wasn't sure what drew her back to him after that first experience - she had not found it pleasant in the least. However it got better, as she quickly discovered, and Cole knew exactly what to do. He grunted some sort of goodbye, and she couldn't help but notice again the tinge that came to his cheeks. She had also noted as of late that he behaved differently around her, and (she giggled at the thought) with her. He had always been what one would call... passionate, but lately he had taken care to be cleaner, and somewhat gentler. She had the distinct feeling that if other men were around he would be defensive, and in return she found herself steadily becoming more emotionally attached to him, although it wasn't too late for her to turn around and walk away. As Cole began to leave Charity sprung forward lightly and grasped his upper arm. He half turned and she kissed his stubbled cheek gently whilst brushing her hand against the lower part of his body. He blushed fully, and she grinned, victorious. "I liked it here." She whispered, just to top it off, and was surprised when his blush didn't deepen. In fact, he seemed to puff up with a certain amount of pride. The scented rose soap she had been using to wash had certainly allowed for a lot of... movement. The thought made her blush and now Cole was the one to grin. "You'll b' late fa dinner, miss." He said, and kissed her forehead before darting out the door. Charity sighed and half smiled before returning to layering her clothes on. Had she actually blushed? That wasn't like her at all, a new revelation she would have to share with the girls tonight. She prayed they would put it down to anything other than feelings - she couldn't afford to find herself falling for a gardener. She raised an eyebrow at herself. Yet she could afford to sleep with one? She straightened her clothes and glanced around the immaculate wash room for any evidence of what had occured here. There was nothing. Satisfied, she picked up her wash bag and made her way back to her quarters to make the final preperations for dinner.

~Victoria Gladstone~ ((OOC: I hope you don't mind too much that I've changed my picture.)) Victoria picked up a glass. She put it down. She picked it up. She put it down. It seemed a simple enough activity, yet it wasn't. It required tact, grace, focus and a great deal of practice to both pick up and put down a glass in Madam Lenora's Academy correctly. Earlier that day Victoria had mastered holding her glass; the only way she knew it, however, was because where every other student was corrected in their finger placement she was not. Every student was scorned for their inability to pick up and put down the glass, and Victoria was determined to master the action. With a soft, lady like sigh she picked up the glass delicatly again and gazed intently at the clear glass. This place was not like home at all. At home she was complimented for her grace above all else. Already she held the promise of being a tactful, diplomatic and beautiful woman, yet she was not satisfied with this. She did not want to merely be the best in her own isolated little town. She wanted to be the best of Madam Lenora's girls, renowned for graduating as dignified, elegant, beautiful and intelligent young women who were well sought after no matter where they decided to venture. And strong too; Madam Lenora's young ladies knew their place, both in who towered above them and who cowered below them. They were kind and proper. In short, the women who graduated from Madam Lenoras' were everything Victoria wanted to be, which was exaclty why she had come. It was proving surprisingly difficult. She was expected to learn her English and Histories at levels well beyond her years, and her Math proved the most confounding scribble to ever be put to paper. Still, she would persist in learning it. She put down the glass gently, focusing on holding her posture appropriatly and cushioning the glass with her pinky. 'Should I hear so much as the slightest tap or clink from your glass or the table, young ladies, you have failed.' Her teacher had said. Well, Victoria could put the glass down without so much as a whisper of a sound, but not very quickly, and certainly not without breaking her posture. There was a definite art to it, their teacher had proved it could indeed be done and she had made it look quick, graceful and easy. Growing frustrated Victoria picked up the glass and put it down as incorrectly as she knew how and walked over to her bed. She double checked the dinner clothes she had laid out there for any marks or loose threads and then carefully dressed. She combed her hair and tied it into a loose but neat bun and went to touch her necklace for comfort. It had been something her mother had given her - and the academy had taken from her. Until the newest additions of the acadmey proved they were worthy of wearing jewelry, they simply weren't allowed to wear it. Or as much as keep it. Victoria thought bitterly. She could have kept it in her jewelry box, out of sight, and never worn it until they allowed her, yet they hadn't even trusted her that far. She checked herself over once more, and then once again in the mirror to be sure she was ready, and then made her way to the dining room.

Ɛvàɲġȩɭiɲɇ Ƈʁɵʂȿwɵʁtħ "...people often ask me, if i've lost my mind..."◊ Dinner was approaching quickly. Didn't she need to be changed into the "proper dinner attire"? Honestly, the white haired girl didn't care. The food was dreadfully meger, due to Madame's teachings that, "No man desires a portly wife!" Funny, she seemed to be so adament of this rule, yet she had no husband of her own. Evangeline snickered soundlessly at the thought and moved from her spot up toward her room, to prepare for dinner.
As she walked to her own room, back straight, shoulders down, she glanced to the other girls coming and going out of their rooms. Some giggling with their friends, others hurrying down to the dining room, not wanting to feel Madame Lenora's ultimate wrath. As she reached her own door, she glanced down the hall to see Chasity entering her room as well. Evangeline felt a tug on the edges of her lips, causing her to smirk, as she opened the door to her room, slipping inside.
Inside the safety of her room, after closing the door of course, Evangeline let out a sigh. Since she had no roommate, no one would witness what she was about to do. Therefore, noone would have to feel the vixen's hot rage. She quickly marched straight to her sleeping chamber, stood over her bed, grabbed one of the many cushions, mashing her face into it...
And screamed.
Loudly, to be exact.
But the cushion muffled the mass of her screech, so no one would hear. Once her screaming was over, or when she had lost breath, she tossed the cushion back in its spot and let out a deep breath. "Better.." slipped quietly from her lips.
After a few moments of undressing, then redressing herself into the "proper" outfit, which consisted of a simple gray dress with small black detailings, she glanced into the mirror and looked at her hair with a disgusted face. Unmanageable was the first thought that went through her mind as she stared at her curly white locks. Grabbing a brush, she ran it through her hair trying to tame it, eventually twisting it into a long, wavy braid. She then wrapped the braid up into a tight bun, letting her bangs cover her forehead.
As soon as she saw herself fit to leave, she slipped out of her room, shutting the door behind her firmly, and began her way back towards the dining room where everyone was headed. A devilish thought sprang to her mind as she noticed a familiar young girl walking a little ways ahead of her. Evangeline gracefully slipped past the few girls who were between them and wordlessly appeared next to Tabitha with a low, "Well hello, Miss Murdoch."
The poor girl nearly jumped out of her skin upon hearing Evangeline's voice. She blushed a light rose color as she stammered out a response. "E-Evangeline! I-I mean, Miss Crossworth.. Lovely to see you." Evangeline held a polite smile, containing her laughter and the sudden urge to make Tabitha even ore flustered than she already was. Oh, how great temptation is, and how hard it is to resist.
Alas, she wouldn't dare give in. It would cost her at least a week in solitary confinement if someone saw. With this thought in mind, she kept her composure long enough to excuse herself, bluntly even, as they reached the dining room. She did, however, catch the somewhat forlorn expression that appeared on Tabitha's face as she departed. This only caused Evangeline to become even more amused. It looks as if I've gotten the girl attached to me.
Once she found her seat, which was about five seats away from the head of the the head of the table, she quietly sat herself down in the open chair, flattening out her dress a little. As soon as all the girls arrived and were seated dinner would be served. ◊"...i tell them 'yes, i have, and i like it very fine'...."

It was nearly time for dinner now, and getting ready for the usually overdressed occasion, Abigail dropped the apple core in her hand into an expensive looking vase, and made her way back to her room quietly. Once inside, she stripped out of her clothes, wishing the bodice could go as well, and stepped over to the emerald-colored dress her aunt had recently sent her. She felt herself smile slightly- it was beautiful, and it was clear her caretaker cared for her deeply. She wiped the smile from her face, however, when she reminded herself who had sent her here. With a light breath she slipped into the evening gown, which though beautiful, was also light. She had no room to be angry with her aunt now. She could only assume the woman knew how much she appreciated the practicality of the dress.
Stepping over to the mirror, she tucked away the loose strands of hair the wind had earlier pulled free, and with a small forced smile made her way back toward the main hall. Inside, girls stood in pretty bunches reciting small talk to one another, and faking interest in the whole thing. It might have been sickening if it weren't necessary. On the far end of the room, the Headmistress was having a word with the head chef, who seemed nervous just to be in the woman's presence. She seemed to have that effect on everyone she met. As if aware she was being watched, the woman turned to look in Abigail's direction, and gave a sudden cold smile.
Abigail mirrored the smile perfectly, which seemed to satisfy the terrifying woman. She turned back to the chef, and Abigail's smile lost it's forced nature as she spotted one of the girl's she had been looking for. With that trained grace, the young woman weaved her way toward the the seat at the table. It wasn't hers, but she sat down next to Evangeline regardless, her eyes on Lenora to watch that she was still preoccupied with the chef.
"I hope you're looking forward to tonight. I have a test prepared for one of the new initiates." She was looking forward to it herself, and lowered her voice slightly, "Patrick was the one to tell me about it, and he'll be bringing the things I need- but I was wondering if you'd like to be the one to do it? It seems appropriate, since I will need someone who knows the ins and outs of the human body." She paused for a moment, before biting her lip to suppress the giddy laughter wanting to bubble up from her throat, "I'll need you to be creative as well- I don't suppose you're interested?"
Lenora seemed to have finished her business, because she was now pacing through the room with eyes only for the students, who seemed less interested in their idle conversation now, and more keen on avoiding the woman's stare. That was enough to send most of the girls to their seats quickly, however, and giving Evangeline a small smile, she mouthed her next words, "I'll see you tonight." She rose and went off to find her seat, catching eager smiles and quiet whispering from some of the girls who were to attend the escapade into the woods.
While the escape itself was pleasure enough for the girl, it was the hazing she was really looking forward to. Normally she avoided anything this serious, but it was certainly a test of the girl's will. If she would be willing to go through what Abigail had planned, there was no doubt she'd keep the group's secret from Lenora and her staff.
The last of the girls were now finding their seats, and the night's dinner was being wheeled out by the kitchen staff on large carts. This, Abigail thought with a light smile on her lips, would be the last act of the night before the Ladies of the White Feather could sneak away and end their ridiculous charade.
