Hard to help you when we don't know your religion or what cultural paradigm (if any) you're working within wink
What does Midsummer mean to you? What are you celebrating? Do you do ritual? What is your basic ritual form?

Thorns and Spices Hard to help you when we don't know your religion or what cultural paradigm (if any) you're working within wink What does Midsummer mean to you? What are you celebrating? Do you do ritual? What is your basic ritual form? agnostic wiccan - i belive that the morals are good and fit the ones i had before i had a religion. but i belive the goddess and god are symbols of the power every one as a whole posseses. I like to recognise the wiccan sabbats and the rituals because i like to know things about what i'm associating myself with. But this is also a topic to talk about whatever anyone else plans to do. smile

Wicca itself is an initatory mystery religion- so there's a good chance that you've been mislead I'm afraid. Because Wicca has set practices and is oathbound, most information you find in books with the word Wicca on the cover are about eclectic neo-paganism. The Wiccan Sabbats and Esbats are deeply connected to the Lord and Lady of Wicca- and it isn't really possible for non-Wiccans to celebrate actual Wiccan holidays. The good news is that lots of other religions celebrate the solstice and because you're not Wiccan you can craft your path and celebration to you!

What i'm doing now makes me feel good and at peace. and its not detrimental to my health or relationships so its a step in the right direction i believe. Weather i'm a legitamate wiccan isnt really the point or up for debate. I was hoping some other members would give me help/ information on Midsummer perhaps some history or lore on the subject. That is what i would deeply apriciate.

_BeutisExisto_ [What i'm doing now makes me feel good and at peace.
That is wonderful! The most important thing about practicing witchcraft is that it works for YOU. That it makes YOU feel good and that it is what's "right" for YOU. *thumbs-up* However, what you practice is not called "Wicca". It is a beautiful practice and is very fulfilling for you, I'm sure. You are just calling it by the wrong name. And that is all I will say on that score.
Now then, as to your question in your OP, What are some rituals or just general things to do for Midsummer?
Well, as others in the thread before me have already said, without a cultural or religious context, we can't really suggest much because we don't have much to go on. So, first we must do a bit of Q&A.
* What does "Midsummer" mean to you? What do you think of when you hear of it? * How does this impression effect you and what you would feel comfortable or uncomfortable doing? * What kind of area do you live in? Rural? Urban? Somewhere between? * How does the area you live in effect what might and might not be ABLE to do for Midsummer?
Just some things to think about.

The fact that what you are doing makes you feel good and at peace is the absolute important thing. This group was started to share experiences and to learn from what we have all been through personally, not what somebody can quote from a book, or from fundamentalists. (not calling any of you a fundy, please don't go there but Wiccan ones exist. Gardner himself felt if Wicca did not evolve it wasn't Wicca) Midsummer is the equinox where the days are of equal length but ready to give way to the shorter days coming. I would suggest you look up the Holly King and the Oak King, it has been told beautifully by authors some would say are not Wiccan. The story can be found all over the internet. One of the nicest Litha rituals I ever attended, just focused on the beautiful energy this time of year, the brightness, and the growth. We were all encouraged to see the growth of the Earth and how she grows where she can and focuses growth on where it is needed. We were all asked to try and apply that same energy to growth in ourselves and to pay attention to where our warmth and energy can do the most good in our lives personally and to those whose lives we have touched, whether it be those we know or the strangers we run across in our lives. I am certainly not explaining it very well but it was a lovely ceremony. I am a person who does not do well in the summer, I don't get along with the heat, but that year, even though it was hot was not as bad for me as usual. I gave away energy where it was needed whenever I could. I found the more I gave away the more I had to give and to keep for myself. Hope that helps a bit.

Love to Paint GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!! This is exactly what the originators of this group wanted!!!! The fact that somebody said you were mislead makes no difference. The fact that what you are doing makes you feel good and at peace is the absolute important thing. I think that while that in spirit is a great idea- in practice, especially when it hurts others- it isn't. My HPS mentioned the Frosts- have you heard of them? Quote: Gardner himself felt if Wicca did not evolve it wasn't Wicca I think evolution is a great word for this situation- because it's about a natural process within an existing concept. When people start from outside that concept- and then claim it's the same thing, there's a problem- and calling a cat a dog doesn't work. Quote: Midsummer is the equinox where the days are of equal length but ready to give way to the shorter days coming. Midsummer is a solstice- not an equinox, and ithe days aren't of equal length, it's the longest day of the year. confused I think if you're going to inform people about something- you should be giving them accurate information. Quote: I would suggest you look up the Holly King and the Oak King, it has been told beautifully by authors some would say are not Wiccan. The story can be found all over the internet. I don't know anyone who says the Farrers weren't Wiccan, but the Oak King and Holly King are not the Wiccan Lord to my knowledge.
