I just discovered oh well I work with Oil Pastels. They are great for drawing animals! Chalk Pastels are really cool to use for still life work. However, both are very messy.

I prefer Chalk pastels for my manga art if used carefully it can be very good for shading.

Siber Ichikage I prefer Chalk pastels for my manga art if used carefully it can be very good for shading. Perhaps I should reverse things and use Oil Pastels for still life and Chalk Pastels for animals. XD
Although I don't think Chalk pastel is good for showing details.

It can show detail I use it to shade my pictures if I do them in colour. I first go over the sides of the picture in color pencil and then I smug a bit of the pastel on to the side and blend it in e using my finger.

Finger blending is a win. I always finger blend when I paint on large canvas. Anyway, I such uploaded some of my best work using both Oil Pastel and Chalk Pastel. (This pretty much ties into the whole "Oil pastels are best for animals and Chalk pastels are great for still life." )
I know there is a Sub forum for showing work but I hope it's okay to post some here since this deals with a specific medium.

I'm glad that there are protective materials to put over projects like these.
