Hello, fellow tap dancers! For years, I have tried to do wings but they are so hard! I can kind of do them, but they still need work! What advice do you have for me so I can perfect my wings? I have heard of practicing in a chair, but do you guys have any other tips?

I'd like to help you, I really would. But chances are I'm much more pitiful at wings than you are. I can do them. But my success percentage is probably around 10%. >.<

Oooh! Those are my favorites to do (: . Our instructor had us pretty much rely on the barre to learn them. Then when we got confident, we did one hand on the barre.. Then in center.
But what about them do you have trouble with ? Is it brushing it out? Or picking as you're pulling your feet in? Or jumping?

what kind of wing do you want to do. standard 2 sound wing. where both your feet go out at the same time and spank back together? or an echo wing which is 6 sounds. where your feet take turns like a double pull back. except the scraps are counted as well. and the placement is different?

But what about them do you have trouble with ? Is it brushing it out? Or picking as you're pulling your feet in? Or jumping? brushing out sweatdrop you need to stand both feet together. roll out onto your pinky toes instead of a normal releve' which is the first three toes. you want to be on the last 2. get in a good plie' and flick your feel to both sides. stand at the barre and and put some of your weight on there until you get strong enough to just use your feet. your scraps count as sounds. so if its an echo wing you need 6 scrap scrap brush step brush step. if its a 3 count wing. both feet go out at the same time. scrap brush step

I didn't read the whole thread so I'm not sure if your question was answered, but when I teach wings, I generally teach them facing the barre, one foot at a time. This is good so the students can practice the feeling that you are supposed to get when you actually do them. I didn't get these until I was about 12 (so I've been doing them for 7 years now!!), but I found that the key is to relax your ankles and roll them out.
Once you get them you should try postponed wings! Those are my favorite biggrin
