Note: Despite the fact that both the captain and lieutenant both hold director titles only the captain is refered as 'Director'. The lieutenant is refered simply to as 'Sir' by all the underlings of the squadron. Only the captain may refer to the lieutenant as director.

They may get elected to partake in small investigative operations within the confines of the Soul Society, but they are almost never sent outside of the Soul Society. There is a small handful of unseated men though that sometimes accompany a seated member in charge of operating survaillence equipment.
