Village History: There have been three Tsuchikage, the most recent being Ōnoki. The First Tsuchikage was a member of the Kamizuru clan, a master of bee control techniques and the founder of Iwagakure as a modern Hidden village. The Second Tsuchikage, Mu, was preemptively mummified; he was infamous for his ruthless military tactics and lack of concern for the enemy's humanity. His philosophy has greatly influenced that of the Current Tsuchikage. Iwagakure is well-known for the rock-hard attitude of its shinobi; as soon as the Tsuchikage gives an order, the Iwa-nin do so without hesitating, even if it means death.
Iwagakure was known to have attempted to destroy Konohagakure many times in the past. During the Third Shinobi World War, Iwagakure fought Konoha across Kusagakure. Despite the actions of Minato Namikaze, Iwagakure was winning the war and pushing Konoha back into the Land of Fire. When Konoha destroyed the Kannabi Bridge, they cut off Iwagakure's line of supply and turned the war in their favor. In the anime, more attempts to destroy Konoha were made. Iwa had in the past used their infamous Kamizuru clan to guide them in the battlefield. Unfortunately, they were stopped by the rivaling bug-users of Konoha, the Aburame clan. After the Invasion of Konoha led by Orochimaru had occured, Iwa took the opportunity to strike back at Konoha by deploying an extensive amount of Genin to attack the destroyed village. However, the battalion was disposed of by Kosuke Maruboshi with the help of subordinates.
Although Iwagakure has maintained a strong military strength in times of peace, Ōnoki has frequently employed Akatsuki to carry out missions. Deidara, after stealing the village's kinjutsu, defected from the village because his art wasn't appreciated by his village, including the Third himself. He became a terrorist bomber for hire and would later be forced to join Akatsuki. Nevertheless, Iwagakure ninja still hold him in high regard.
Due to their close proximity, Sunagakure and Iwagakure has had many battles over the years, resulting in a bitter emnity between the two villages and their ninja which they are slow to relinquish, even during the Fourth Shinobi World War, where they are allies.
Getsugakure and Iwagakure had always been bitter rivals; Iwagakure being the first village on The First Tsukikage's hit list back before the 2nd Great Ninja War. Iwagakure responded by decimating the city, but were kind enough to allow the Getsugakure Government to rebuild itself.
Iwagakure has had two tailed beasts: the Four-Tailed Monkey and the Five-Tailed Dolphin Horse. The Five-Tails, sealed within Han, was captured by Akatsuki under unknown circumstances. The Four-Tails, sealed within Rōshi, who is wondering Earth Country for now.
During the Great Purge, Iwagakure took an incredibly militaristic stance, invading Getsugakure without hesitation, even though the village was not directly affiliated with Hakumei or the terrorist David Spragut. Iwagakure's Military Occupation of the Hidden Moon Village lasted almost 2 years (For 1 of these years, Getsu was technically under the Iwagakure Government, and was considered an annexed territory). The Great Purge was unique also because it was the first conflict in which Ōnoki himself did not do battle, instead maintaining power and directing battles from the Home Village.
Village Alignment: Relations with Konoha and Sunagakure are frosty, but allied.
Relations with Getsugakure are nothing short of acidic
Village Theme: Iwagakure was criticized by multiple other villages and politicians for its overzealous invasion of Getsugakure, yet their response to critics has been to increase military funding. They have taken the mantle of "World Police" striking swiftly and without mercy to any villages or organizations whose intentions are anything less than pure. .
