After the Great Purge, Getsugakure was divided into regions for more effective Reformation. The general geography of the Village was maintained, however, with the Midnight Forest bordering the Southwestern Gate (Red Rectangle), and the Lower Portions of the Spine Mountain Range bordering the Main Northern Gate (red rectangle)
The Regions are color coded on most maps as such:
Orange: The Northwest Sector. Contains the ancient training grounds [diagonal lines] used since Getsu's inception. Near the main road, in front of the grounds, is Getsugakure's Ninja Academy [Solid Black Circle] where Academy students receive instruction and shinobi are assigned missions. One block below the Academy is the prison complex [Transparent Circles], separated into 3 wards: Male, Female, Excessively Dangerous. These wards are of course guarded by members of Getsugakure's special police force, LUNA, whose compound resides in the bottommost corner of the Northwest Sector.
Teal: The Northeast Sector, also known as Crescent Ghetto. This region, facing Iwagakure, was one of the main battle grounds of the Great Purge. Here, multivillage forces battled and eventually defeated the criminal group Hakumei, but at a tremendous price to the neighborhood, which is now ridden with crime and poverty. LUNA response to this region is excessively weak, and, as a result, many gangs have risen in power.
Gold: The Eastern Sector, The Tsukikage's Complex. It contains the world famous Dead Sakura Glade, a long stone walkway leading to the Tsukikage's Temple. The Cherry Trees here have been killed midblossom, yet the unique cellular structure of their demise has petrified them in a permanent state of morbid beauty, some flowers permanently intwined on their branches. The Tsukikage's Temple itself is the most secure place in all of Getsu, second only to the Most Dangerous Ward of the prison complex. Within it, the Tsukikage controls gate security keys, communicates with LUNA, and monitors security footage. Within the Temple itself is the Vault of History, which only the Tsukikage contains a key to. It holds the scrolls for Getsu's various forbidden jutsus, as well as archives of history. What remains of Getsu's Parliamentary Elders also live within the Temple.
Blue: The Bazaar. The middle portion of Getsugakure was once a bourgeoisie type open air mall, but since the Great Purge it has devolved into a laissez-faire bazaar. Here all sorts of goods, many illegal or of questionable value, are bought and sold. To the East of the Bazaar, in the Southeastern Sector, is what remains of Getsugakure's shopping district, where more specialized and legal purchases may be made. It is also home to Kaisou Kujira's Famous TsukiRamen House, which has remained open throughout the Great Purge and into the Reformation.
The Southwestern Sector is a vast park, containing the Full Moon Cemetery (Rectangle with Slashes) and the Getsu Memorial (Circle with spokes). The Memorial, a vast, obsidian crescent moon, was put into place by the Second Tsukikage, after the first Getsu-Iwa conflict. Since then, the name of every Getsu-ninja killed in battle has been etched into the stone with a tool that allows them to reflect moonlight, and "glow" in the dark.
The Southwestern sector also contains the only other way in or out of Getsu, the Southern Gate, which leads to a path through the Midnight Forest. The Forest was once considered completely impassable, but during the purge a path was carved out of the woods that leads down into the Wind Country.
Green: The Southern Sector is the cluster of homes, apartments, and clan complexes where the middle and upper class residents of Getsugakure reside.
Village History:
Little is known about Getsugakure before it became a Hidden Village, and even then, history is quite incomplete and full of unanswered questions. Records show that a small village was made at the base of the mountain range now known as "The Spine" (Located in the narrow passageway between the Land of Stone and the Land of Wind) and that travelers called it "Tsukiyama" or "Moon Mountain."
The name of the village was officially changed to Getsugakure over 100 years ago, when a wealthy man named Haduma purchased the entire village for what records state to be "goods of a highly superstitious value." Whatever the deal itself was, we shall never know, but we do have some of Haduma's private records and those of his subservients, and we can sum up the first fifty years of Getsugakure's history in a few sentences.
Haduma had witnessed the success of the other Hidden Villages and desired to make his own, a society of ninja that existed as mercenaries as well a microcosmic ninja society.
However, accounts of other ninja under him, including the soon-to-be Second Tsukikage Harikun Roshingi, state that after just a few years Haduma's lofty ideals of society "run by ninja, for ninja" began to crash. He took on the title of "Tsukikage," embracing the monarchistic governments of the other Hidden Villages that he had so often mocked. He took concubines and second wives, closed the ninja academy and opened a barracks and began training an army. What his goal in all this was was never revealed, for on the 10th anniversary of Getsugakure's founding, Iwagakure sent a small extermination team into the village, decimating Haduma's "army" and raiding the village's resources. Haduma would live the next decade in relative shame, dying of an aneurysm while writing his will, naming his only surviving student Harikun Roshingi the Second Tsukikage.
Harikun had already developed leadership skills in founding the Village special ops squadron LUNA, and was an apt choice for Tsukikage. Under him the village prospered, becoming similar to the other Hidden Villages except for its unique freedom from attachment to any other country or government. Harikun spurred diplomatic relations with Konohagakure and the other Hidden Villages, and when he died following the Spring Festival in the year of the Ox [IRL 2008], people from all over the ninja world attended his funeral, where LUNA Commander Ikazuchi Hachi was declared the Third Tsukikage. While Hachi was more than qualified for the position power-wise, there was concern over his sketchy past, most prominent being in charge of the black ops research group "Project Untouchables," whose kekkei genkai research was considered taboo by most of the other villages.
Still, in Getsu's third age, Hachi's suspect past seemed unfounded, as Getsu entered a time of such economic growth rivaling that of its time under Haduma. During its chuunin exams, however, it was revealed that a man named David Spragut, once thought to be dead, was very much alive. Spragut's personal history was shrouded in mystery, save that he was over 100 years old but as fit as any man at 30. He had been residing, half-insane, in the Midnight Forest for over 50 years, but had apparently been captured by Hachi during Project Untouchables and "researched." During the Maze of Madness event at the Chuunin Exams, Spragut revealed himself, kidnapping several candidates and reforming an ancient terrorist group known as Hakumei, or "Sunset."
Recognizing the threat of another Akatsuki-like group, the village leaders met (with assistance from the Lawyer Nin, Bob Lawblaw) unbeknownst to Hachi, and planned to take advantage of Spragut's hatred for the Third Tsukikage and turn Getsu into a battleground.
Needless to say, their plan worked.
In the wake of a war known as the Great Purge, Getsugakure was ravaged and Hakumei defeated. All of Hachi's research materials were burned and destroyed by other village forces, and all of his test subjects were put to death. Hachi was only spared a coup by agreeing to pledge his assistance in the battle against Hakumei, where he was forced to brutally murder one of his old students, Ekidaki Konan.
As the Purge ended, and the rest of the villages heading towards Isolationism, the Ninja World is in a state of Reformation. Iwagakure, Getsu's age old rival, watches the Moon Village with hawk's eyes, should Hachi attempt any more criminal activity. While Hachi himself, however, resides as a broken man. His village attempts to rebuild itself while petty crime ravages its streets, and the people face an unheard of poverty. With LUNA numbers shorter than ever, more and more people turn to the Crescent Sector gangs for protection, as the Man in the Yin Yang Mask tries to keep his village from falling apart.
This could not have come at a worse time, for the ravaging battles and damage to the ki of the world, coupled with extreme polar changes in the Realm of Gaia, have left Getsugakure in a state of near permanent Twilight; 15 hours of darkness per day.
Village Alignment: Getsugakure's intentions very much mimic its atmosphere. Hachi, in the wake of the damage inflicted upon his village, is in a state of grief. He feels for his people and desires to save the village. However, Getsu itself is slowly shifting towards crime and mafiaism, the momentum towards anarchy ever increasing.
Village Theme: Getsugakure's theme is one of darkness and light, the conflict between the two as well as the twilight region between them. While the motivations of its citizens and leaders always seem to be pure and light, there is an element of darkness with every person, and, in Getsugakure, that darkness tends to corrupt. Now the village has sunk into the shadows, becoming a black market hub filled with gangs, criminals, and other illegal activities. Darkness pervades the very air, the entirety of the village shrouded in night most of the time. Yet, there are still those with pure intentions in this black place, and lights shine the brightest in the dark.

Village Recruitment Focus: Obviously, there's always the infamous chatterbox hunt. This should provide Getsu with more than enough fodder for the Academy. However, for more upper echelon RPers, recruiting will be done via PM's to members and creators of various Lit/Adv. Lit RPs. Since the village is 'dark,' we'll be concentrating on threads with 'dark' themes (I.E. Vampires, Werewolves, Crime, Noir, etc.)

Village Minor Advancement: The Test will consist of two portions, IC and OOC. For OOC, Academy students will submit a 2 page, single spaced story about their character in direct response to a given prompt. The response will be graded by both the Recruiting Supervisor and the Village Leader.
For the IC, the Academy student will be forced to roleplay a combat situation against a selected village Chuunin OR!
The student may decline the combat test, in which case the student will either be rejected or will be sent on a mission to be determined by the Village Leader, who will examine their performance.
