A Kingdom Hearts Story:
Ashaedia's Beginning
Chapter I
Mysterious Girl
It was dim, that slight stench of a new car's interior hanging in the air. The room was filled with the soft whirring of machines and beeping of monitors. Somewhere in the Radiant Garden Castle was where a being had awakened from her deep sleep, slowing opening her eyes and squinting in the dim light of the lab. Two figures stood in front of her, one was a tall blonde man with long hair holding a clipboard, and the other was a boy with short silver hair and a bang concealing his left eye. They both wore white lab coats and black dress shoes. Behind them were two men who were dressed in matching uniforms, a royal purple tunic with long sleek black pants, a red handkerchief around their necks, and long white gloves. One had long black dreadlocks who held a lance, and the other man had dark brown hair with grey streaks and held two large purple crossbows with strange arrows that resembled white-purple crystals. The man and the boy studying the awakened one gave a step back as the teenage girl glowed with a dark purple and black aura that burned with the distinctive stench of ash. Suddenly, the scent disappeared, but the dark aura lingered. The man with the long blonde hair stepped forward carefully, quickly jotting down a note on his clipboard. Curiously, the boy looked up at the girl. She had long silver hair, though the top of her head was slightly spiky, the points of her hair pulled back. She had long silver bangs that fell down to her chest. Her coat was dark blue and silver, a black leather padding on her chest that was connected to the coat. Silver shoulder armor laid on her shoulders, and black belts crossed her chest from left to right. Black gloves adorned her hands, black pants were on her legs and long black boots covered her feet. Her yellow eyes looked tired, her tan skin soft with her young age, but she seemed to strike an uneasy feeling in the two guards behind the scientist and his young pupil.
"I got a bad feeling about this . . ." Spoke the guard with the dreadlocks. His tan skin seemed to whiten with anxiety.
"Oh, grow up, Dilan. She's not too scary." Mocked the other guard. Dilan glared at the guard that mocked him.
"Braig, she reeks of Darkness. She even smells like volcanic ash!" Dilan argued.
"Maybe she was born from fire! Or down in the depths of-"
"Gentlemen! Please be quiet or talk in whispers. You wouldn't want to spook her." The blonde haired scientist warned. Dilan and Braig shut their mouths. The young boy, whose name was Ienzo, silently watched the two guards quarrel in small whispers. His curious blue eyes looked up at the scientist. The scientist smirked.
"Such quarreling among allies can lead to uncertain betrayal, can it not, Ienzo?" The scientist asked. His voice sounded official and smart, such as any serious scientist might talk like. Ienzo nodded.
"Professor Even, do we know her name yet?" Dilan asked. His voice was slightly deep, though wrought with concern. Even nodded.
"Hey, I bet her name is 'Ash' because she smells like it sometimes," Braig said, putting one crossbow under an arm and pinching his nose in a falsely manner, giving a slight grin. "What do you think eh, Professor?"
"You're close. Yes, her name starts with 'Ash' and starts with an 'A'," Even said to the two guards. "I took some blood tests and the tests showed some mixed blood of about everything," Even said, and looked down at his clipboard. "She has some history of being a Keyblade Master who worked here, though having a heart of both Light and Darkness . . . But mostly of Darkness . . . Seems to be mostly Heartless but has a heart . . . Such a strange one . . ." Even reported. Braig gave a small laugh.
"As if! No one can be of both the two elements," Braig laughed. "Hey, she hasn't talked in awhile. But call her by her name and see if she responds." Ienzo nodded and carefully walked up to the girl. She watched him carefully, one hand balled into a fist. Crackles of electricity escaped her knuckles. Ienzo stopped until she relaxed, and stepped towards her again, his wake calm. The girl looked down at him, her eyes glowing slightly. Yellow and gold in her iris' showed curiosity, calmness, and a hint of fear. Ienzo smiled at her, trying to ease a smile onto her own face.
"It's okay, I won't hurt you . . ." Ienzo soothed, talking slow. The girl's eyes softened. "Ashaedia? You don't have to fear us. We'll care for you." Suddenly, there was a bright light in Ashaedia's left hand and a Keyblade formed there. Then a second Keyblade appeared in her right hand. The Keyblade in her left hand was black and the key teeth looked liked black feathery wings. The handle looked like the handle of a katana, but with black and white feathers around it. The second keyblade had a black shaft with sharp key teeth, the handle red and simple with a blood red handle guard on each side. Ienzo gasped and took a step back. An aura of Darkness formed around Ashaedia, and she dropped her Keyblades. They clattered to the floor, and seemed to sing an unworldly bell and ringing sound. She grunted and put her hands over her face, but gasped as her Keyblades appeared in her hands again. Her eyes squinted with tears and pained memories of separation, and she dismissed the Keyblade. Ashaedia jumped off of the lab table and ran behind it, going into a particularly dark corner. Even stared at her curiously, and wrote on his clipboard with a pen.
"Hm, sudden detachment to humans . . . Can summon a Keyblade . . . Two in fact . . . Eyes show a harsh past of sadness . . ." Even said to himself, writing on his clipboard. The dark corner of the room seemed to have gotten darker, and cries could be heard from the darkened corner. Ashaedia sounded like an eleven year old, her crying bringing an unsettling atmosphere in the room as if one of the figures in the room were going to get killed by something unexpectedly. Everyone's heartbeats seemed to have quickened with a sudden fear and anxiety. Professor Even walked slowly towards Ashaedia, Dilan and Braig bringing up the rear, their weapons raised. Instantly, Ienzo knew something was wrong. Even hadn't seen it through the dim light and flickering of skylights, but Ienzo saw something horrifically wrong Ashaedia's hands . . .
"St-Stay . . . Away . . . I hurt . . . T-Too many people . . ." Ashaedia stuttered, sniffing and not even trying to wipe away her tears. Ienzo's eyes basically bulged out of his head as he looked down at Ashaedia's hands. They were claws, long claws that seemed to be six inches long. Her gloves were ripped at the fingers and Ashaedia's eyes shined yellow in the darkness of the corner. She cried again, as if ignoring the scientists and the guards. Even bent down to examine her, but reeled back as a blurry hand swiped his cheek. He held his cheek, a good sized cut on his skin. Ashaedia gasped, retreating more into her dark corner.
"I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to . . ." Ashaedia gasped, and started crying again. She rocked back and forth, arms around her knees. "I'm scared . . . I want my father!" Braig came forward and pointed his crossbows at Ashaedia.
"Try one more move like that and shooting you won't just be an option." Braig warned. Ashaedia turned away from him. Ienzo sighed and put a hand in his pocket. He withdrew two popsicles wrapped in plastic. Sea salt, a popular flavor among Radiant Garden's residents and Twilight Town's people. Ienzo walked towards her carefully, unwrapping one popsicle. Ashaedia looked up at him with a small gasp, and her eyes fell on the popsicle. Ienzo bent down to her and held the popsicle out for her to take. Ashaedia reached a shaky clawed hand towards the popsicle and closed her fingers gently around the popsicle stick. Ienzo let her pull the popsicle from his grasp and sat next to her. The room got brighter, and that unsettling feeling in the air was lifted. Ashaedia's hands suddenly changed back into normal hands, and her gloves were magically sewn back together. Ashaedia bit into her popsicle and smiled. Even wrote furiously on his clipboard. Ashaedia stood up and walked towards Even. He gave a small gasp and Dilan moved towards Ashaedia as she put her hand on Even's cheek. Ienzo watched her as he unwrapped his other popsicle and bit into it.
"Curaga . . ." She whispered. There was a minty green glow and the smell of mint as Even's cut was healed. Even put a hand on his cheek.
"Amazing . . . She can use advanced magic already!" Even exclaimed, and shook Ashaedia's hand. "And thank you. I know you meant no harm." Ashaedia smiled and took a bite of her sea salt popsicle.
"I've been asleep for so long, I forgot how to act around other people," Ashaedia said softly. "I was scared that you might hurt me, so I lashed out. But I realized you didn't have a weapon . . . I'm so sorry that I had hurt you." Even smiled. He clapped a hand on her shoulder.
"It's alright. But I think you should see the outside world instead of being trapped in here. We found you in that coffin in the basement. At first, we were spooked!" Even laughed. Ashaedia laughed with him.
"I was in a coffin? I don't remember going in one . . ." Ashaedia said.
"Well, whoever put you in there probably thought you were dead. But tell me, do you remember any of your family? Do you have a mother? We've confirmed that you have a father." Even asked. Ashaedia put a fist under her chin.
"I remember seeing my father before I went to sleep, but then after that didn't see anyone else. But I have a grandfather, I think." Ashaedia replied, and looked at Even.
"I think we should get her outside. Have her breathe in fresh air." Dilan suggested.
"Correct! We should! Can you walk okay, Ashaedia?" Even asked. Ashaedia nodded, but then her eyes widened.
"Oh! I haven't got your names yet . . . You know me, but I don't know you." Ashaedia said.
"My name is Professor Even, and this is my young colleague, Ienzo." Even introduced. Ashaedia acknowledged them both.
"My name is Dilan, and this is Braig. We're guards who protect the Radiant Garden Castle." Dilan said while waving a hand at Braig. Braig nodded at Ashaedia.
"Are you a Keyblade Master?" Ienzo asked.
"Yeah, I am. Is there any other Keyblade Masters here?" Ashaedia asked, a little hopeful.
"Not that we know of." Braig answered. Ashaedia sighed.
"But don't be disappointed! There are many people here who might have some acquaintances with Keyblade Masters or people who wield a Keyblade. Some people here even hail from Disney Town." Even explained. Ashaedia smiled and nodded. Maybe some of the residents can relate to any Keyblade Bearers. Even clapped his hands together.
"Now, let's not dilly-dally any longer! Let's bring Ashaedia into the light and out of the dark." Even exclaimed, and waved Ashaedia to follow him. Even led her, Ienzo, and the two guards up a staircase and down a long hallway. They turned left and into a large entry hall. The carpet was scarlet and the walls were a pearly white. A throne sat in the far end of the entry hall atop a small flight of stairs. A large cedar door across the room from the hall stood about eighteen feet. Braig and Dilan ran ahead and pulled the heavy door open for Even, Ienzo, and Ashaedia to pass through. Ashaedia shielded her eyes and squinted in the blinding sunlight, but then she gasped in amazement as she saw the world of Radiant Garden.
