So a few years ago i discovered the best money saving food trick.
Before you leave, get a cooler, fill it with ice, buy samich meats n stuff you eat that is cheap.
Fill up the cooler, when you get to your hotel, get more ice, fill it up, and bam.
You can feed 5 people under 20 bucks all weekend.
Great trick. Granted i still normally go out and eat atleast once, but otakon is so damn crowded its ridiculous. Especially when your eating across from the con center and the fire alarm goes off...

This is smart. Cause, I mean, even when you avoid the high cost of food by eating outside the convention center, you still have to face the incredible lines. The line to Subway was out the door and reached to the sidewalk each time my friend and I looked over at it.
One year my friend Ashley brought her own home-made bentos for her and her friend. Granted, she only went down a day, so by the time lunch came around the bentos remained fresh, but still. Not only are those cheap, they look cute and taste great too!

Better yet, don't have a cooler? All rooms have little dressers/tables. Just like the drawer(things you put stuff in) with plastic and ice and bam! Just like a cooler. Oh course, I used to bring non-regi items like ramen packets and stuff like granola, trail mix and bottle juices.

If you carry around some sort of con bag(like I do), non-perishable snacks are a good way to go. I usually bring stuff like fruit cups(oranges, applesauce) for vitamin C, crackers, tins of vienna sausage, and pudding, because hey, sugar!
'Course, that's just what I do. YMMV. 3nodding
