"Naio" had an idea run through the old brain a while back for such a story. As sort of a present to her, and to Kraze who was so eager for me to do so, I've take the bones of that story and decided to put some meat on them.

I apologize for any untrue portrayals of characters, but this is ubercrack.

Chapter 1

The Lady Romanov woke from her midday nap with a yawn. Both Thistle and Elos were curled up at the foot of her bed, their noeses touching in a way that was almost romantic. Scratching each of the giant wolves behind the ear Illy rolled off the bed and skipped down the hallway before she heard a shrill scream.

Growling and vamping out she ran down the stairs to find a dead body and a frightened Michi. The two wolves were swiftly by her side and the Novinskian maiden de-taloned herself before hugging Michi close.

"It's okay, little one," Illyana comforted her.

A very pregnant Kuro and a frazzled looking Adamska appeared from the kitchen along with a concerned Kraze and Rune. Naio, Sion, Himawari, Xionis, and Riketz stumbled through a doorway as they scrambled upstairs from their card game (which made Sion very happy, he didn't like losing money to the girl with the tail).

Without thinking the two gunslingers removed their hats at the sight of the fallen man for a second before returning them to their heads. Kuro mentioned cleaning the mess up, but Himawari shook her head, "It'll destroy any evidence."

"Are you suggesting one of us killed him, Fraulein?" Rune inquired.

"I wasn't," Himawari replied eying him suspiciously, "But the fact you jumped to that conclusion sure does make me wonder."

The admiral spoke up, "I highly doubt Rune could have committed the crime as he was having afternoon tea with Kuro, Kraze, and I, Miss Sakura."

"Or is that what you want me to think?" she interrogated as she stared into a single icy blue eye.

"I don't have time for this," Adamska sighed, "I shall call for the authorities."

Himawari grabbed him by the cravat and held him there, "No one calls the cops, Patches. Not yet." She set the seaman down and he and the others noticed she was suddenly sporting large, fox ears and had three tails swishing in the air.

"She's getting that look..." Illyana mumbled in Novinskian.

"Damn redheads. C'mon Riketz, I gotta finish winning your money," Xio grumbled and dragged the hunter downstairs.

Naio, who had been observing the body with a strange desire in his eyes raised a hand and quietly stated, "Wasn't me." Sion put a comforting hand on his shoulder.

"Everyone return to your rooms... I've got some investigating to do. Everyone except you two," the vixen pointed at Illyana and Adamska as the others shuffled off she smiled at the pair.

"I don't like it when she smiles like that. I usually have to do something ridiculous."

"If she sasses me once more," Adamska grumbled in reply, "I think I might eat her."

"I can understand you; I picked the language up quickly from Igdor..." Himawari was smiling a little less, "I know neither of you did this; it's not your style. I also know you've both got a nose for blood..."

Chapter 2

Kraze's tail flicked uneasily as she stood before her teenage daughter. Faint stripes were appearing on her body and her eyes were starting to change. The girl was sitting on her bed, still shaken by the sight of the corpse.

"Michi, did you see what happened?" Kraze asked the child. A shake of the head was the only response she received. With a sigh she continued, "Have you seen Mr. Anton around? Or maybe the shadow man?"

Another shake of the head paired with silence. Rune ruffled the girl's hair lovingly and prompted her to tell them how she found the body.

"I was gonna find Illy so she could make pasta for lunch. I came in from playing outside with her puppy and walked around looking for her and then I saw the man laying there in the little pool of blood..."she stopped as though she were finished before suddenly adding, "But Mr. Anton didn't do it Mommy, he didn't. He wouldn't."

The stripes on the mother's body were a little darker, she was going to have to teach her daughter that the charms men put on were not always a reflection of their character.

Rune answered a knock at the door and found a frustrated Lady standing before him. He smiled at her kindly and ushered her inside.

"How is she? It must have been awful for her," Illy asked him.

"A little shaken and quite insistent that Anton wasn't involved, but she seems fine, Fraulein."

Kraze was still trying to convince Michi that men weren't what they seemed and not wanting to interrupt their conversation with creepiness Illyana inhaled deeply, not detecting the scent of the man.

"Anton didn't do this, and neither did any of us."

Rune's eyebrows raised quizzically, "Are you sure? About Anton, I mean."

"Yes," she nodded, "If Anton were behind it there would have been more blood and less body... I... I need to go prove the innocence of some others now that I've taken care of you two."

"If you must," the golden eyed man said before brushing his lips against hers.

"I... You... Nnarghm!" she flailed as she turned bright red and fled the room.

Chapter 3

It never occurred to anyone that Himawari already knew who the murderer was. Why would it? None of them knew she had spent the '20s and '30s on Earth as a private investigator. Well, except Xio, but he didn't remember so he didn't exactly count. The pretty kitsune curled up on the couch and let Adamska and Illyana think they were doing something important.

"WHAT THE HELL?!" she heard Xio cry from below. She dashed downstairs to see Riketz about to take another swing at him with a switch ax.

"This is what you get for cheating you mossy haired trickster! I ought to beat you and feed you to the baggi!" the easterner growled and launched Xio with the weapon into the ceiling.

The artificer hit it with a thunk and fell back to the ground, semi-conscious.
