Has anyone heard of this or have taken it before? I researched a bit on what the test was about, and it seems like Level 1 is an almost impossible reach. xd I wonder how many are actually able to pass Level 1 of the KanKen...

Also, I know that this test is aimed at native Japanese speakers, but I've heard of foreigners who've also taken or are planning to take the test.

If you're skills are up there, you can certainly give it a shot, but I'd recommend studying for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, which lots of company look when hiring people want to translate / otherwise work with the language on a professional level

I've heard about it, but I would only recommend taking it if you are:
1) Have already studied/passed the N2~N1 of the JLPT.
2) Working and living within Japan to remain exposed as much as possible to daily Japanese.
3) Have an overall appreciation/interest in learning Kanji in general.

There are DS games that test for this exam as well.

But if I just want to try Level 10, can't I just take it without having studied/passed the JLPT 1 and 2, considering how Level 10 only tests you on the 80 kanji learned in first grade of Japanese elementary schools?

Well, apparently I forgot about the different levels and have been paying too much attention to all the DS games that have been made to study for the exans (the harder ones anyway).

One still must have a dedication to kanji and learning kanji however, though outside of Japan, I don't think there's many opportunities to take the exam.
