To Love the Cursed

{Inspired by Worgen trailer for WoW}

The soft symphony of the night chirps and rustles; the woods dark but soft, like a lady's wedding veil. Darkness shrouds the animals lurking in the star washed landscape, but no one is afraid to go out at night. Until the first people start disappearing. Howls, loud and foreign, invade the forest's nightly song, and fill the day with living nightmares.

Little more needs to be said. It's quite clear to all by now, I'm sure, that the town of Dwelwood has become plagued by what many only believed to be myth: werewolves. But this is no fairy tail. The cursed wolves are not bound by the moon. Day or night, the attacks continue, and anyone who survives their mauling only turn into more monsters. The town has sent out for help, but as of yet no word has arrived back. Things are looking hopeless ... anyone who leaves the town for food, water, anything ... the forest that was once so bountiful to them has now become a death zone.

But the villagers still give thanks that the werewolves haven't attacked the town directly ... yet.

Story

[X] and [Y] both live within this town. They're acquaintances at least, friends at most, though one has secretly begun to love the other. Within this hellful time he tries to gather his courage to confess his feelings but before that can happen ... it's too late. [X]'s home is broken into by werewolves one night ... and by morning the entire household is slaughtered. Well, all but one. [X]'s body is missing, which can mean only one thing: he's now one of the cursed.

Ironically enough, that afternoon help arrives in the form of a government official named Dr. Jack. And he says he knows how they can fix this ... that he has an experimental cure for the curse. Now all the townsfolk need to do is trap a werewolf for him so he can properly test it. Once he has a working formula, then they can shoot it into the wolves with instantaneous results, unlike the ineffective lead and silver bullets.

So the people of the town set out traps; mostly bear traps, considering the power and ferocity of their quarry, and Dr. Jack instructs them on how to build a proper cage for such a test subject. Within a few days, the hunt proves fruitful. The hunting party returns with a snarling, caged monster. A monster ... that's [X].

Rules

- Time skips for the 'below the belt' love scenes.

- Attempt to write with literacy. Spell check, acceptable grammar (I'm not a Nazi), and a length that both describes and gives good attempts at ... well, story telling. No one-liners, but I don't force posters to go uber-long. Just good replies are needed, okay?

- Don't disappear. Really. Give a heads-up for absences that last more than a day. There's nothing more despised than a person who just drops a RP without a word. Tell me if you get bored and want to move on to another RP without me. Please. Really; I don't mind being left; just tell me your leaving.

- Title the PM 'Looking for your Humanity' with your character profile filled out. Add the words moon mistress at the top or bottom of the PM to show you really read the rules.

- Have fun. Talk to me Out Of Character with [], {}, or (()) if you want to add a comment, make a suggestion, etc. or PM if you like that better.

- Follow Gaia's TOS

-Please remember werewolves are wild animals. Don't pet, touch, or otherwise stick your hand into their cage. They love to bite. And tear limbs off.

-I'm looking for a [Y] to go with my [X].

Looks: [URL img]
Name: [Should be English-ish, unless you specifically state you're an 'immigrant' of sorts. Dr. Jake, John Smith, Mark Evans, etc.]
Age: [18-23; we're both men here, or at least young men]
Personality/Bio: [Just the bear bones; I like learning about characters through posts]
Occupation: [Because all young men work in a village; be it part time jobs all around or a specific profession]

Actors in the Show

[X]

Looks: Human ... Wolf
Name: Noah Walter
Age: 20
Personality/Bio: Noah has always lived in Dwelwood, just like his parents, and his parents's parents. Before the werewolves appeared, he was usually one of the only ones who enjoyed going into the woods, be it for firewood, hunting, or water from the river. He's strict when it comes to making sure everything gets done, but is pretty light hearted and open compared to some of the other townspeople.
Occupation: Hunter/skinner; often gets paid for firewood or herbs from the forest.

[Y]

blessedheart
Looks: -Y-
Name: Allen Welkins
Age: 18
Personality/Bio: Allen is a very soft-spoken person. It's kind of the reason why he did not have many friends in the village. Since his family's move to twelve years ago, the only friends he has made are a freelance cat, the baker's son a few doors down and a boy who recently was sighted "missing" after the discovery of wolves breaking into the house.
Occupation: Firewood cutter

Don't go around tonight,
Well, its bound to take your life,
There's a bad moon on the rise.

It was a quiet morning. But, then again, the mornings were usually quiet now. The nights were what held the noise, in howls and the calls of the wolves that had taken over Dwelwood's surrounding forest. Those that lived in the small village were--usually--as quiet as mice now. Especially after what had happened to the Walters. The family was dead ... deceased. Well, all of the Walters except the son, who had once been a human hunter.

Now, Noah was a hunter of another kind entirely.

Everyone had their rumors as to why the wolves had invaded the small household in the seemingly-safe village. "It was their own boy's fault. Going into the wild like that ... he brought the cursed ones down on his own family!" "They followed the smell of dead animals. That hunter was foolish, going into the wild and taking meat from the wolves own mouths." Clearly, most were blaming Noah for what had happened. Mostly ... because a majority of the village were too fearful to dare to do what the young hunter had done: go into the woods.

But even with the quiet and unfriendly rumors, life went on. The sun rose, quieting the howls, and the humans crept out to try to regain a sense of life amidst the fear. At least werewolves were nocturnal. And then ... a commotion. Not much at first, but a sense of surprise grew as a small group on horseback approached ... and entered the town through the main road. The few newcomers looked sharp. Most of the six men were large ... and had quite the few impressive weapons. Crossbows, long boar spears. Distance weapons. The leader was a smaller man ... but one with hard blue eyes, and bright orange hair. They seemed to be looking for the individual in charge of the village, whoever it was.

"The poor family... It's all that boy's fault..."

Stop it...

"Perhaps they should have had a girl. Then they would still be alive today."

Stop it...

"Even then, its their son's own fault for going into the woods anyway."

"..." Allen sighed as he stared at his feet. Would they just be quiet already...? He grew tired of the escalating rumors due to what have befallen to the Walter family. And Noah... Poor Noah. His hard-working friend and crush was now one of the Cursed... The whole event made the white-haired male depressed...

"Meow.." Looking down at his feet, a small smile curved onto his lips. "Hello Mr. Binks." He greeted before the brown cat hopped onto the fence Allen decided to use as a chair and nuzzled the male's stomach. "Right, I know. Hold up and I'll get your milk." Giving the cat a light scratch behind the ear, Allen got down from his seat and headed into his house for a bowl and some milk. When he returned outside, he noticed some men on horses pass. 'Who are they...?' He wondered, keeping eye contact on the village's visitors.

The men didn't get any straight answer. Really, the village was too small to have any official 'leader' figure. But, the local butcher--a large and assertive man--stepped forward, and invited the newcomers to follow him to the local inn, that was mostly used as a local bar by the villagers. The butcher wasn't the nicest of men, but everybody else listened to him. And that was what these dangerous-looking strangers were looking for.

Most of the town followed, desperate. For anything that wasn't the usual fear. The usual knowing that death could be one night away. These newcomers were dangerous. But rabid werewolves were far worse then men.

The strangers' leader stopped in front of the inn, standing up tall in his stirrups to take stock of those around. Then he looked to the butcher. "I take it the rumors are true. This town is plauged by werewolves?"

The meat-cleaver looked at the rather unimposing amount of men before hi, and spat to the side. Weapons and armor were all well and good. But with this small a number, there was no hope to kill the beasts. This village knew that well. They had tried, and many young men had died. Or worse. Simple as that. "What's it to you."

"Well, we're here to hopefully ... remedy the problem."

A stir of excited whispers, underlined with suspicious hisses.

The redhead turned, glancing at an odd, albino-looking young man, before browsing the crowd. "I have an ... experimental cure. For the curse."

And then, the crowd nearly roared. All sorts of things. Hope. Disbelief. And everything in-between.

"But first," the icey-eyed man said above the din, "I'll need all the large animal traps you folks have." A test subject was necessary after all. The butcher and leader of the strangers spoke more, but too quietly for most of the crowd to hear. Probably ironing out details and such. Like food, Lodging. Everything.

Remedy the problem? An experimental cure...? After giving Mr. Binks his milk, Allen followed the crowd that was no doubt heading to where the strange visitors are. At first, he couldn't hear what the strange men and the butcher were talking about, so he ducked under a few people, climbed up on a few stacked boxes and before he knew it, he was on the roof of the one-story inn. He could now hear what they were talking about. But the content of those words came as a shock. Was there truly a cure for those who are turned into werewolves? Could it... Could this cure possibly save Noah?! The thought of having the other back in the village made his heart hammer faster in his chest. Still... Looking back at the men, Allen took a good look at the strangers before analyzing the leader. The hard blue eyes... The bright orange hair... The way he spoke to the butcher as they talked about supplies and all that. Could these men really be trusted? Can they really save their small, werewolf-infested village?

The strangers dismounted, most of them heading to the small stables to get their animals comfortable, and to unload. For now, it looked like the inn would be the base of operations. "I'm Jack. Dr Jack," the cold-eyed carrot top was saying to the butcher, after getting a few other--of the more hopeful--villagers running off to get the traps he'd asked for. "I'll need some folks who know the woods as well. To help find good spots to put the traps."

That request brought on silence. No one really wanted to go into the woods. Not for anything.

'Go into the forest?!' He didn't know it too well, but Noah showed him a few good places to set up traps in order to get good game. It was the days when they gathered firewood together... But now was not the time to think of that!!

"I-I volunteer!" Allen yelled to get the butcher's and Dr.Jack's attention. Unfortunately, the sudden outburst made him loose his grip on the roof, making him slide down the roof and hit the ground: HARD. It was a good thing the rooftop wasn't too far from the ground. Otherwise, he could have seriously gotten injured. However, that did not mean he was not in excruciating pain...

Dr Jack frowned at the beginning silence his request brought. But he looked up with the butcher when they both hear one brave soul volunteer ... then promptly fall off of the roof. Well, beggars couldn't be choosers, the orange haired man supposed, walking over to the young man. Jack didn't help Allen up though. "We start tomorrow morning," the doctor informed his groups volunteered 'forest guide' before heading to the inn himself, the butcher shaking his head at the foolhardy boy before going off himself to get all the necessary supplies for tomorrow.

(I'm really sorry for not telling you about me poofing. Family issues came up along with school being a pain in my behind. -.-''' )

"R-Right...T-thank you sir..." Allen said as he tried to get up. He already knew there would be a big bruise on his back from the fall. The pain alone was enough... He hoped it would not hinder the others for tomorrow. The last he wanted was to be a burden. So, when he finally got to his feet, he walked to his house in order to prepare...

~~~~~~
'Okay. Map, check. Compass, check. Snacks, check. Small knife for protection, check...' As he marked off what he needed, Allen tried his best to not think about getting eaten by wolves... Or getting lost... Or getting lost then being eaten by hungry, savage wolves... Shaking his head, he took a deep breath. No! He had to think of the positive. Like the chance of seeing Noah again or finding out that the other was okay and well. "Alright Allen, you can do this... Get a good night sleep and tomorrow you'll be ready for anything." Yeah... right... But it did not hurt to dream anyway. With a small sigh, the white-haired male laid down, blew out the candle flame and waited for sleep to take over...
((It's really no problem :3 I figured it had to be something like that, since you had poofed from ShadowEternal's RPs for the moment as well.))
That night was not quiet. The nights in this small town had not been silent or serene for a good while now. No; the darkness was played through with the sounds of long drawn howls into the night, and few screams of other forest animals as the nocturnal and cursed predators thinned the herds' numbers ever more to feed their horrible appetites. But no more homes were attacked that night.
With the morning came a restlessness and activity fed by the newcomers, building up fences and other barriers around the small town as best they could. But most of the guards were getting themselves and their horses ready, loading the beasts of burden with wicked-looking traps. Meant to capture only the most dangerous of prey.
Dr Jack was dressed sharply, looking at his pocket watch as the sun first began to rise. He wanted to get going, and cover as much ground as possible while the daylight lasted.
There was a knock on Allen's door. A guard, lean and strong, was waiting for him. "Boss says we're ready to go. Are you?"
(Yeah...I'm trying not to poof as often but it happens unexpectedly-.-'' I should be able to post at least once a week again. Once, I'm more balanced with my workload and family life, I'll be able to post more razz )
It became harder each night to fall asleep soundly. The continuous howls and animal's screams kept a good portion of the village awake. Allen was no exception. Try as he might, he could not block the horrible sounds of the forest. Sleep flickered on and off as the male waited for morning. So when daybreak came, Allen jumped out of bed and got dressed. The more he moved, the better chance of him staying awake. When he was fully dressed in a white T-shirt and blue overalls, he made himself a small breakfast.
"Allen. A man outside the door is waiting for you." The time has come.... With a smile, Allen kissed his mother cheek before giving her a hug. "I'll be back soon Mom." He said with a reassuring smile before picking up his knapsack and heading to the front door. When the guard spoke, Allen gave a nod. "Yes. I'm ready."
PostPosted: Sun Sep 09, 2012 11:33 am
"Well come on then!" the man said gruffly, leading the way back to where roughly half of the group was ready to go. The other half would stay and help 'fortify' the town as best they could. It was easy to see Jack in the group of men and loaded horses, seeing as the doctor had bright orange hair. The man in charge motioned for Allen to join him at the front of the group. So they could talk over how they were going to do this.
"We need to go to the paths and areas most-traveled by wild game," the doctor said curtly. Where the wild animals went, so would the werewolves. "But, if we find any trails more likely to be traveled by the werewolves, it'll be those we concentrate on. We'll be spending most of the day at this, so it's vital you guide us to the prime hunting spots quickly." Since the horses were loaded down ... it looked like they would be walking. In the woods now plagued with werewolves. At least the guardsmen clearly were decked out in weaponry.
The sudden boom of the guard's voice surprised Allen momentarily before he quickly followed behind the male. When they reached the edge of town, the white-haired male looked at the group of men before noticing that the doctor calling him over.
"Then we should probably take the east trail..." Allen commented as he thought what the doctor said over. At the end of the trail was a small lake the animals used to catch fish and keep hydrated. after that, they could probably try moving a bit north to the denser area of the forest animals used for shade during the hot season. "I'm not sure about what trails werewolves take, but they usually leave marks of their territory on trees or the dirt." Noah taught him that. It was never wise to be in a area claimed by a pack. So, in order to tell other pack members that this was their spot, they would leave some kind of scent or mark for display. So maybe they could try to find signs like that... Allen honestly was not sure since Noah would never take that certain trail...
PostPosted: Sun Sep 09, 2012 12:18 pm
Dr Jack raised an eyebrow, but nodded. "Alright then. Lead the way." It was a long walk. The guards were pretty chatty amongst one another, but spoke quietly. Even they seemed slightly spooked at the thought of having to fight things that were once human. And could turn you into a monster too. But at least they had armor. Dr Jack was quiet, and didn't seem up for much conversation besides directions and talk of the job at hand.
When they neared the lake, Jake had the guards put down some traps. Bear traps. Then, lightly 'hide' the large metal mouths carefully with fallen leaves and other light things to cover both the metal and hopefully any human scents on the things. It was a slow, delicate thing to do, so while a few set up the traps, others went to get water, or talk.
The woods were oddly quiet, and devoid of rodents. A few birds sang here and there, it it almost seemed like most of the wildlife had possibly moved on ... or was already eaten up by the werewolves. Or maybe the loud-ish guards had simply scared the game away.
"Oi, boy!" one of them called out at Allen, "how often do you come into this accursed place anyway?" A few of the guards had figured if Allen knew his way around, he'd had to come into the woods often.
