While I was looking at some journals on DA, I found this-
Mini Conference – ExpoAnime (USA):
An official interview with Kishimoto … “A group of fans asked Kishimoto what he thought about the doujinshi and fanfics of this pairing. He simply responded that it was his favourite pairing and that he alw…ays collected stuff of it. In addition, he stated that he wanted to give the manga a Shounen-ai ending” (Confirming it twice)
After the Interview, Kishimoto revealed that Sasuke was based on his best friend from High School, whom he admired and loved very much, and that Naruto was a reflection of himself and the adventures he would have liked to experience when he was young. He also emphasized that in the series there is not a love triangle, but rather a circle, like a fish biting its own tail. Naruto likes Sakura, Sakura loves Sasuke and Sasuke has special feelings for Naruto. However, he ended the note saying that Shippuden was going to be mainly about the fights and character development.
Random comments from the interview above :
“Masashi Kishimoto-sensei, creator of Naruto, who openly declared that he liked Shounen-ai, his favourite pairing was SasuNaru and that he was going to give the manga an end of that nature. Though it’s going to be an open-ending, it will be perceptible that Sasuke and Naruto end up together”
I hadn't found the actual article but it is supposedly official. Personally I'm not a big fan of Sasuke or Sakura, so I could care less if either one ends up with Naruto (secretly hoping Sasuke dies in the war for dramatic effect), but it makes more sense than Naruto and Hinata. I always thought there seemed for to Naruto and Sasuke's bond besides friendship before Sasuke pushed him away and left the village and now wanting to kill everyone. Thought at this point, Sasuke seems asexual to me.
If that is Kishi wants, I say go for it. I just want Itachi to be bi at the very least for the sake of my fangirliness and OCs (Well not that it matters, he's dead anyways). cool

If Kishi is smart, he'll leave the relationship open to interpretation in the manga. 3nodding Just to let us fans have some fun.
Personally, I think Hinata's confession was there so that he would know that Sakura's was fake. He might not have been able to see the half-truths in there if that hadn't happened first.

I agree that an open ending up to some point might make people happy as all sides could imagine what will happen. I just it hate when there is no closer so I want at least some closer to the story though.

I want a closing to the story yes, I just don't want everyone paired off with everyone else.
Ideally, it would be a life is continuing on thing, with maybe Naruto starting his own genin team, or even more fitting (in my eyes anyways) taking up Jiraiya's hermit sage deal. 3nodding

Yeah, I can see all the rookies now becoming sensei's for their own team or taking the places of the older generation.
To be honest, I can't really picture many pairings anyways. I'm sure there will be some if Kishi makes a prologue at the end about life and all that.

I think everyone agrees that it's too late for everyone to just have a happy ending.
Personally I do think Kishi is well aware of the fanbase but I have heard that the Japanese government is introducing new laws against too much "semi-mature content" In Shonen series to try and clean up the national image a bit so I'm hardly expecting Naruto to confess to Sasuke.
Still you got to admit there is something between those two...

I think Naruto is fine with the law. I believe it is more for sexual content, mainly of underage characters. Besides them accidentally kissing (which only happened in the manga once at the very beginning) and some jokes/innuendo, there isn't much going on.
I don't think confessions would be breaking it.
But yeah, they make more sense than Naruto and Hinata or Sasuke and Sakura.

I think if he wants to, he should go for it, but I am worried about ignorant parents reacting poorly confused

You mean no canon? As I believe slash refers to any pairings that aren't canon. sweatdrop
As for parents, well I wouldn't worry about them too much. If they were going to make a fuss I'm sure that they would have already done so.
