please tell me what you think! i would really like it.
“Good morning Seattle! This is your favorite radio station host Ricky D! It is 5 o’clock in the morning; wake up sleepy heads, today is going to be great! High of 58 degrees and no wind today. Let’s hear from our girl Lady Gaga, Bad Romance!” The speakers of my alarm clock blasted into my ears.
I groaned just like an average seventeen year-old, teenager who is reluctant to drag their butt out of their cozy bed to go to high school. I flipped off the purple, fuzzy blankets and stood up to stretch my stiff legs. I dress for my day at school robotically just like any other day, nothing exciting happens to me except major boy trouble. At the moment I have been dating Aaron Merrell for about two weeks but even though our time has been short with each other he is overly protective and jealous. He knows I have some friends who happen to be guys but he is still a jealous freak and every time I try to talk to him about it he always twists it around. It seems like I just can’t ever win with this dude when I want to talk about something other than what he wants to talk about. Don’t even get me started on every other boy problem I have had in the past, I swear I could write a book about it. On the positive side he’s hot, caring, popular, and every once in a while he shows his sensitive side.
I walked down the stairs when I was done with my morning routine and called, “Mom?”
When nobody answered I went into the kitchen which still needed to be picked up from lasts night dinner, I found a posted note on our stainless steel fridge. It stated; Sorry Natasha but the restaurant was short of staff and I needed to go in early. I hope you have a great day at school. Love you lots, Mom.
“Thanks mom.” I whispered to myself. I already know dad went to work already; he leaves as soon as I wake up.
I grabbed my breakfast which was a protein shake when I started to head out the door. I pulled my rain jacket from the closet, put it on then grabbed my bag off the couch and headed into the garage. I hoped into my shiny red car then drove off to school while sipping on my shake and jamming to my music all the way to the torture building, my high school. As I pulled into the crowded parking lot I caught a glimpse of my dear friend Marcus but we just call him Mark. With my bag over my shoulder I got out and started to walk cautiously toward Mark. I scan the parking lot like a hawk looking for danger of a nearby predator. When I was absolutely sure that the coast was clear of my usually hovering boyfriend I walked at a normal pace and my breathing came easier.
“Hey,” Mark greeted me and gave me those friendly hugs he loves to give, “you looked like you were looking for someone. Let me guess, you were looking for the love of your life, Aaron.”
“Aaron is not the love of my life! Even though you are wrong about that, you were correct about me looking for him.” I admitted.
“Why are dating him? He doesn’t even treat you right and he’s just an overall jerk.” Mark vented.
“I don’t know to be honest,” I mused, “possibly because he’s smoking hot.”
“That honestly doesn’t sound like you, didn’t you tell me once that personality is more important than their outer shell?”
“Yes and plus Aaron is not a jerk, you’re just jealous.” I defended myself.
“Jealous of Aaron, why would I be jealous of him?!” he tried to hide behind the clueless remark but I could see through that.
“It’s obvious! Remember junior year when you tried out for the football team and Aaron beat you by a land slide… that is why you are jealous of him.” I had to explain to my envious friend.
“Hey! That’s not fair,” he shouted then mumbled under his breath, “I swear to God that he bribed Coach Baker.”
I laughed but rolled my eyes and Mark still pursued the topic, “It’s true!”
I reached up and put my hand on his shoulder, “Keep on believing that big guy.”
I felt an unexpected tap on my shoulder and before I even turned around to look I knew who it was. I slowly drop my arm from Marks shoulder and spun around to face my fate. Aaron was behind me and shooting Mark a dirty look, which was honestly no surprise but it still bothered me.
“May I help you?” I questioned coldly, even though Aaron is my boyfriend I am not afraid to speak my mind, which is probably a trait Aaron doesn’t like very much.
“I thought I told you to stay away from this looser.” Aaron said ignoring my question.
“Yes you have, at least a thousand times but I also told you that I’m not going to push away my friends just because I am told to do so.”
“Well as a boyfriend I’m the only guy you will ever need,” he emphasized the ever with a hard edge, “plus I am hotter than him, and I am on the football team.”
I turned away from Aaron and saw that Mark was furious with his fists clenched. I momentarily forgot about Aaron and put my hand on his cheek and whispered, “Calm down.”
I saw his face soften, I found out that I am the only person who can calm him down or stop him from committing suicide when he’s depressed. It’s strange but true, we have been friends for three years and never had feelings for each other yet we act like we do sometimes.
Mark looked down at me then back up at Aaron and sneered, “You’re not worth my time anyways.”
He gave me a hug then stomped off toward the courtyard, and then Aaron stepped around me, blocking my view of Mark. “What the hell was that all about?!”
“I have told you before, Mark and I are best friends and I have a tendency to stop him from doing something stupid!” I hollered then pivoted on my heels and started walking to the cafeteria.
Aaron caught up easily then as if nothing was wrong he draped his arm around my shoulders. He towers over me, he’s 6 foot and I am an average 5’4 so I sighed in defeat and put my arm around his waist.
Aaron whispers, “Good girl.”
I screeched to a halt in front of the cafeteria doors, pushed his arm off of me and looked him directly in the eyes, “What do you think I am? A dog?”
“Well sometimes I think you should go obedience school, so possibly.” Aaron stated.
I glared at him, “I’m going now.”
“Where?” he grabbed my wrist before I could touch the metal door handle.
“To hang out with my friends, you know the people you are trying to push away from me.”
“Give me a kiss then you can go.”
I absolutely hate it when he does this but I honestly didn’t want to go through the whole argument about how I’m-mad-so-I-don’t-want-to-kiss-you again. So I gave into his will and gave him a quick peck then stormed off into the warm lunch room.
“See you at lunch!” I heard Aaron call after me but the words didn’t stop me.
I approached the table with my friends; Amanda, Maddie, John, Brandon, and Tyler in an active conversation about Tyler’s new car. I sit down in an empty seat between Tyler and Maddie and laid my head down on the table. I felt like I wanted to scream so loud that China could hear me.
“Hey Natasha, what’s up?” Maddie asked with concern flooding her girly voice.
I lifted my head up and pulled a stray piece of my blond hair behind my ear and said “Aaron is getting on my nerves, and is becoming a jerk.”
“What do you mean?” Brandon questioned, “He has always been that way?”
“No he hasn’t!” I guess I lied a little bit but I have always hoped that he would someday change for me, “It’s just that lately he has been more jealous than usually.”
“How so?” Amanda wondered.
I explained the scene in the parking lot then I came up to the part when we were walking, “He practically called me a…”
Tyler interrupted me and shouted, “What did he call you?!” he stood up, flaming with anger.
“Tyler,” I reasonably stated, “I am not going to tell you if you are going to be violent, so take a chill pill and sit back down before you attract attention to this conversation.”
The last thing I needed was rumors spreading around faster than rabbits reproducing.
After a few moments Tyler sat down and stubbornly said, “Fine.”
“Okay then,” I continued, “he practically called me a dog.”
My friends gave me some shocked looks and I don’t blame them, Aaron can be a jerk but he usually doesn’t seep down this low.
“You’re not a dog! You smell a million times better than one; trust me Max doesn’t smell like lavender, even after a bath.” Amanda exclaimed.
What she said made the whole table erupt with laughter, once I could breathe again from laughing so hard I said, “Thanks Amanda.”
Then the bell rang, making everyone hurry up and get to class.
My morning classes; History, Math, Geology, and German past by in a flash, since none of them are my favorite I was glad that they went by so fast. My best friend Alice was waiting after class for me right outside the door. I greeted her with a huge hug that she returned to me but when we faced each other she looked like she was about to explode with some juicy information.
“Guess what?” she squeaked with a grin on her face.
Alice works at the main office so she knows everything that happens around school, even the rumors which sometimes were about me and thanks to her I was able to stop them before they get too far. I asked hopefully, “What? Did Aaron decide to move to another school?”
Alice laughed, “If you don’t like him then why don’t you dump him?”
I sighed but explained, “I’ve tried but every time he finds some way to twist the words around and make me question my motives and such.”
“I understand how that book goes,” she admitted whole heartedly, “but that’s not what I want to tell you.”
“Okay then what is it?” I asked truly curious since the same eager grin crept over her face again.
“Well there is a boy from London enrolling in our school, he starts tomorrow. I know how you love those British accents.” She explained and joked.
We both laughed, but I was truly guilty because I am a huge sucker for British accents. Last year Tyler threw a Christmas party and Alice gave me a poster of Robert Pattinson, I squealed like a fan girl and made Tyler’s cat running to the other end of the house. I don’t know why but there is just something about the way the accent sounds that is super sexy.
“Have you seen a picture of him?” I wondered; I got the image of Robert Pattinson in my mind so I bet I’ll be disappointed to find out he doesn’t look like him when I see him.
“Nope, I heard it from Mr. Haze in the attendance office when I had to give him information for the latest skipper.” She explained, “I bet you will be the first friend he will make here, you’re the friendliest person I know!”
I laughed bitterly because I know that I have my moments of being leader of the mean girls, but even then it’s not often since I have some kind of super self control on my temper, “I guess we will just have to wait and see.”
“I bet you will make him feel right at home.” Alice predicted as if she can see the future.
I just laughed because I honestly don’t know, now that I am in Aaron’s life it seems like meeting someone new will take more effort than I would have imagined.
“I bet he’s going to be cute.” Alice assumed.
“How do you know that?” I snickered.
“I don’t know but I would assume if he’s from London he is going to be yummy!” she said optimistically.
“That would be awesome but...” I started, knowing I would have to sooner or later explain my motives to her.
She wore that expression on her face that said that she was waiting for me to continue.
“Aaron.” I simply stated,” He won’t let me get near my own friends who are guys, do you honestly think he’s going to let me hang out with a guy I don’t know?”
“I don’t think so.” She said in doubt.
By this time we were at my locker and when I looked at Alice I saw her perky, brown eyes had gone gloomy and I knew what was exactly going through her head. Aaron had broken her heart a few years ago. She loved him more than anything in the world; even though he didn’t treat her any different than the way he’s treating me. She didn’t mind though, she was comfortable with accepting less than she deserves. At a school dance she caught him making out with another girl whose breasts were just about to fall out of her tight fitting dress. Alice encouraged me to go out with Aaron when he asked me on a date, with the hope that he would treat me better than the way she was treated. Now both of us see that he has not improved.
“Are you going to eat lunch with him today?” she quietly interrupted my train of thought, while playing with her chin-length, light brown hair.
I contemplated silently about it but made my decision hands down, “We were planning it but I really don’t feel like seeing him after what happened this morning.”
“What happened?” Alice wondered innocently.
“I’ll tell you if we eat lunch together by the field today.” I promised.
She let out a giggle, “Sounds great!”
The sound of my locker slamming echo through the almost empty hallway, we stopped at Alice’s locker then we headed to the field.
“Hey babe!” I heard someone call from behind us.
Alice didn’t have a boyfriend and only one person recently calls me babe. I looked over my shoulder to see the one person I trying to avoid, I stopped in my tracks and Alice followed my lead.
I didn’t say anything but I probably should have been at least somewhat polite but thought against the idea.
“I thought we had a lunch date.” Aaron said sounding a tiny bit angry.
“We did but…” I thought up a fast excuse, “I found out that Alice’s gold fish died, she needs someone’s shoulder to cry on.”
“But I don’t…” she started then I elbowed her hoping Aaron wouldn’t notice, “Um… I don’t have another friend who offered their shoulder to me.”
“Yeah I guess I’m not the only one he doesn’t feel sorry for a peeping-tom, anyways it’s just a dumb pet!” Aaron shouted, “I’m so much more important than her and her petty problems.”
Aaron is getting pretty close to stepping over the line I drew, I saw that his words cut right through Alice and now she is hurt, “She is NOT a peeping-tom, plus she is my best friend therefore making you at the bottom of my to do list!”
“Oh… so you would do me?” he asked with a smug smile playing across his face.
That’s it, he stepped way over the line and I exploded, “No! I would never do you, even if you were the last person in the universe! You’re the most selfish, jealous, controlling; clingy, jerk I have ever dated! If you are going to keep acting this way, I don’t want to be your girlfriend anymore! It’s over Aaron!”
He stood there completely shocked with his mouth hanging open as if I just did an amazing magic trick. Alice was speechless but she was giving me that look that I surprised her just as well. Once I knew for sure that I was completely out of steam I started to walk away with Alice trailing right behind me. I gave myself a mental laugh; there goes my super self control. Instead of going to the field I took the wrong turn and was heading toward the park instead but I didn’t change my track and kept going.
“Sorry for the outburst back there.” I apologized to Alice once I was able to think clearly.
“It’s alright; I wish I could have done that instead of taking the beating. Plus you also stood up to him for me, thanks.” Alice replied and smiled a grateful smile.
“No problem.” I stated, “He can try his best to push away my friends but when it comes down to it, that will never happen because you guys are my life and I never want to live without my friends.”
“That’s sweet Natasha!” Alice smiled even bigger knowing I wasn’t going to let Aaron push me around.
We gave each other a bear hug and then found an empty spot on the damp grass from yesterday’s rain. Alice and I sat on our rain coats and ate our lunch happily. I told her about what happened this morning then after that we mainly talked about what the new kid would be like. She guessed tall, curly brown hair, hazel eyes, and rich. I predicted that he would be tall and have short blond hair, really pretty blue eyes, and more of the jock type. I watched my cell phone clock very closely to make sure Alice wouldn’t be late to her next class. Five minutes before the bell rang we packed up and went back to school. After lunch I have a free period and unfortunately so does Aaron. I decided to rush into the girl’s bathroom to hide out in for the period, it’s better than the possibility of running into Aaron in the library. Normally Aaron and I would study in the library, well more like I was tutoring him because he doesn’t pay attention in class, or his brain is pea sized and doesn’t hold any useful knowledge. I decided to make my camp out in the bathroom productive so I sat on the tiled floor and worked on my history homework. We just started our unit about the real Dracula, it turns out he wasn’t even a vampire… just acted similar to one.
My last classes of the day were English and gym, English is my favorite class, and I just love to read. Gym on the other hand, I wasn’t as great in but I’m not entirely horrible at it either. After school I went to the local book store, picked up a few things there then I went home.
I walked through the door and shouted, “I’m home!”
“We’re in here sweetie!” I heard my mom call from the dining room.
I set my stuff down then joined my family.
“There’s still pot roast on the counter, if you would like to have anything for dinner tonight.” my mom pointed out.
I’m on a diet even though everybody says I shouldn’t be, I personally think I need to lose a few pounds but I was a little bit more hungry than usual tonight so I grabbed a plate full of food and sat down at the dinner table.
“How was school today?” my dad asked.
“It was good, we are studying the real Dracula in history and I found out from Alice that there’s new student from London coming to our school, and he starts tomorrow.” I explained.
“That’s cool,” my mom commented, “how is everything going with Aaron?”
I knew that my dad instantly shut off his hearing; he does this whenever mom and I talk about boys, just like any other father does. “Well I sort of broke up with him today.”
“Really? Why?” my mom wondered, she looked truly interested in my reason.
I explained about the morning scene and that he crossed a line with Alice.
“That’s a very understandable reason for dumping him, your friends will always be more important than a boyfriend.” My mom advised me.
Dad suddenly got his hearing back, and with a mouth full he said “Listen to your mother, she is very wise.”
I almost spit out my green beans trying to hold in my laugh, the rest of dinner was mainly joking around about how my mother has had good and some not so good advice to give about boys.
After dinner I did my homework then started my nightly routine of taking a shower and putting my pajamas on. I crawled into my soft and cozy bed, underneath my purple sheets and blankets. I gently rested my head on my pillow but as soon as I did I became abnormally restless, almost as if I was afraid to close my eyes. The shadows the moonlight casted on my pale walls suddenly didn’t seem so friendly, and I swear to God I heard bats screaming outside in the background. After sometime of just laying there I finally was able to close my eyes and sleep but in the morning I regretted ever falling asleep that cold mid-October night.
