The year is 2253 and man kind once again finds itself at war. Following the Age of Expansion and the Great Exodus, the scarcity of resources in the outer colonies of the Prominence Federation prompted them to launch a surprise attack on the inner colonies of the Union. The initial attack took the Union off guard, the overwhelming numbers of the Federation swiftly conquered the resource colonies inside the asteroid belt. Yet when they finally reached Mars, the technologically superior Union was able to halt the attack and push their assailants back. What followed could best be described as a thirty year stale mate, with the Federation unable to pierce the Union's inner defense system while the Union has only been able to retake a handful of asteroid resource colonies. The Union's top brass has been anything but idle, setting in motion numerous initiatives to break the stalemate and push the Federation back. One of these initiatives, code named Project Polearm, assembles the best the Union's military have to offer into a handful of commando units. Their purpose to carry out high risk missions that will break the enemies back and disrupt their lines to allow the main Union forces to deliver the crushing blow.

Among the many brave men and women of Project Polearm one group stands out among the rest, Halberd Unit. Equipped with the very latest weapons and gear that the Union has to offer. They have taken on the role of primary shock troops and covert operations, making them the very tip of the spear in this war.

History

2078: Joint venture between Japan, United North America and Russia produces the first man made colonies on the moon.

2103: Significant advances in science and technology leads to the Terra forming of Mars, producing the first destination that humanity can freely colonize.

2105: Terra forming technology is shown to be a reliable and flexible technology when the moon is successfully terraformed, eliminating the need for enclosed colonies.

2110: Differences in ideologies over the use of this new technology causes a fracture among the Earth's populous. One one side, those that believed in a kind of manifest destiny wherein every planetoid capable of being Terra formed should be in order to expand the human race and provide a way for people to pursue new bastions of wealth. On the other, those that believe that the resources of the solar system should be spread equally and Terra forming should only be used when necessary. While these factions do not see eye to eye, the short term need for resources begins the Age of Expansion

2111: Age of Expansion begins, seeing long term investment in inter planetary travel, Terra forming and settling technologies. More than twenty major resource colonies are founded in the asteroid belt and several of the moons around Jupiter are settled.

2194: As certain companies and countries press ever harder for increased expansion in the outer solar system, their ideological counter parts form the Union. This economic super power forced their opponents to control themselves or depart Earth forever. Those that refused departed Earth for the outer colonies in what is now called the Great Exodus.

2206: Colonies of Jupiter and Saturn combine to form the Prominence Federation, pooling their resources to further the goal of colonial expansion.

2228: Vessels from the Prominence Empire initiate landings the major resource colonies in the asteroid belt, beginning the first inter-planetary war.

2230: The Union High Command approves several top secret initiatives to improve their military strength. The aims of these initiatives varied from developing a new super carrier which could lay siege to an entire colony by itself, to various super soldier programs using cybernetics and gene manipulation.

2250: Project Polearm is approved, assembling the most skilled soldiers in the Union to form several teams of specialists. Gaining acceptance into these units is incredibly difficult, and the training afterward even more so.

2253: Project Polearm launches on its first mission to retake the Askani Prime Resource Asteroid in the asteroid belt.

Roles and Equipment

The following are some of the specialties that a member of the Halberd Commando Unit must fulfill. For a character you must combine at least two of these specialties into your character's role on the team. (ex, combining scouting and marksman could yield sniper). Please don't hesitate to ask me for advice or opinion. Also please note that these specialties are just what your character excels at, not limiting them from having other skills such as the obvious how to fight a battle. The specialties are as follows (I'll be striking them off as they're taken):

-Command
-Pilot
-Medic
-Hacker
-Demolitions
-Marksman
-Tactical analyst
-Heavy weapons
-Communications
-Scouting
-Close Combat
-Mechanic

Finally, here are some basic technology standards at this point in the future:

-The Union uses rail gun based fire arms while the Federation still uses traditional gunpowder weapons. The main difference being that Union clips contain metal slugs and a battery pack to power their weapon instead of bullets with casings.

-The Union favours biological engineering and nano-technology over the federations Cybernetics.

-Interplanetary ships are common, however, it still takes weeks to get from one planet to the other depending on the distance.

-Laser weaponry is still in its infancy, so weapons in both space and land are still solid shell (bullets and artillery) and missiles.

-Standard issue commando gear:
-Tac 3 commando armour: consists of a jump suit under layer lined with a gel layer that absorbs kinetic impact with a nano carbon-titanium alloy plates for protection against projectiles and shrapnel, the positioning of which can be customized by the individual.
-Mac 3 Assult rifle, medium power and range rifle useful against infantry and light armour. Can be heavily customized.

Other than that feel free to come up with new technologies and interesting weaponry. Just try not to make it too extreme. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

Gaian Name: Si_Valael
Character Name: Victor Fenrir
Rank: Lt Commander
Role: Team Commander (Command, Piloting)
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Civilian Appearance:
User Image
Combat Appearance Victor wears a standard issue Tac 3 commando armour with a command link interface on his right forearm and a modified pilots helmet featuring a light blue visor that covers his entire field of vision. The plates are set up for a compromise between mobility and protection, with medium thickness armour across his torso, shoulders, forearms and legs. His colour scheme consists of a black jumpsuit with dull silver armour plating.
Bio: Victor was the son of a prominent geneticist in the Union's military sciences division and being a product of a night of passion, never knew his father. While still a toddler his mother was appointed the head scientist of the Hybrid project, an endeavor to create enhanced soldiers though splicing animal DNA into human subjects. Desperate for suitable test subjects to prove her theories, Victor's mother subjected him to the first round of gene therapies. Whether though luck or his mother's shear determination Victor became one of the few to survive the first round of tests without debilitation side effects. As the therapies took hold, the researchers at the lab noticed that Victors senses of hearing and smell began to strengthen rapidly, soon surpassing normal human capabilities. As he continued to age into childhood, his mother began to notice Victor naturally developing strong bonds with those around him, especially the younger children of successive phases of testing. Using this fact, Victor's mother convinced the Union military brass to let Victor stay to help care for and train each new generation of hybrids.
For the next decade or so Victor remained at the institute, becoming an unregistered member of the care and physical training staff at the lab. His friendly and kind nature drew members of both the test subjects and the research staff. From the latter he was able to learn a great deal about science and technology, and was even allowed to have lengthy discussions with the army officers that came though periodically to check up on the research. By the time he was finally called up by the Union special forces for training, he already had a solid foundation in the sciences and many branches of military protocol and tactics.
At the age of 18 he was enlisted in the Union Navy Officer Academy on Mars graduating three years later. For the next four years he was scooped up by the Project Polearm, receiving extensive training in combined naval assault, that being the use of combined commando and vehicle tactics. At the end of his training he was given a two rank premotion to Lt Commander and put in charge of Halberd.
Weapon Loadout: Mac 3 Assult rifle with low powered scope worn on back when not in use. Two Raptor machine pistols worn on his thighs. Nano carbon-titanium combat knife worn on the small of his back. Three high yield frag grenades, four high intensity flash bangs, worn above his knife.
Equipment Loadout: Command uplink worn on right forearm, advanced pilot helmet with threat identification software and sensor gear, basic mechanic and hijacking tool set carried in backpack and small pouches worn on his belt.
Other: Due to his gene therapy, Victor has extra sensitive hearing, a greater than average sense of smell and a very strong instinct for team dynamics. He is also an expert pistol marksman as they were the only fire arm he was allowed access too at the Hybrid clinic.

Gaian Name: Alyha
Character Name: Kaitlyn "Kaite" Cooper
Rank: Specialist Grade 2
Role: Technician (Hacker and Medic)
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Civilian Appearance:
User Image
5’4” tall, blonde-white long straight hair generally hidden beneath a cap or helmet. Generally in jeans, tank top, cut-off overshirt and heeled boots. No makeup. No skirts unless needing to ‘blend in’ with a crowd….but then again, she wouldn’t be ‘off the clock’ then.
Combat Appearance Kaite’s combat gear is minimal at best – not something her commanding officers are always thrilled with. She wears light Tac 3 armor (light blue lining with black plates) her plates are across her torso, fore-arms, and shins. Her Com-unit is in her helmet – a light weight biker’s helmet with a clear blue screen covering her line of vision. This screen reads out the commands from the keyboard hologram attached to her left wrist.
Bio: Kaitlyn Cooper grew up on the streets, the only child of a criminal hacker and a one night stand with an army medic on leave. Her mother was arrested when Kaitlyn was five, leaving her in the care of her mother’s hacker friends. By the time she was ten, Kaite had managed to become a pro Hacker, besting even her mother’s friends and their teachers. Her ‘family’ got jealous and Kaite moved on out to save her own hide. On the streets, she learned the value of a medic’s training and hacked into video feeds and university bookstores to learn as much as she could when she could. She made money by Hacking the rich’s bank accounts and siphoning small amounts of money into her own private account via several other accounts. Untraceable- much to the annoyance of the police.
By the age of 16, Kaite thought herself invincible and started an underground blog with a few friends on the streets and started hacking for information. TerraSafe – the name of her blog – became an almost instant sensation, causing turmoil in the streets as government secrets started to be leaked to the public. It wasn’t until Kaite found a file on Sigma-41 that the young hacker really got into trouble. By then she was 18 and full able to be tried as an adult.
It took her six hours to break through all the encryption the government had placed on a file that covered one of the greatest tragedies the Union had seen in the war. The fall of Sigma-41 had been in the news extensively. It was one of the last strongholds that the Union had left and had been a brutal loss. Thousands were lost. The Public was told that the general in charge had ordered a general retreat after a long battle – retiring shortly after his return….what Kaite found wasn’t quite the same story.
According to the file, the General had never ordered a retreat…he’d ordered his soldiers to fight to the death, using WMD’s and chemical weapons before Union High Command managed to over-ride him and order a retreat. His return home was followed by a dishonorable discharge. Cracking that file was what got her caught. In her opinion it was unfortunate that she was caught before she could publish her findings.
Kaite was given a choice when they arrested her, she could join the military as a hacker – and be under the watchful eye of one of their commanders…or spend the rest of her life in a cell with no access to technology of any kind. The thought of living without technology had terrified the 18 year old enough that she opted for military service and after two year in Project Polearm, Kaite was assigned to Halberd.
Weapon Loadout: Nano-carbon Titanium combat knife strapped to her right thigh. She was banned from the use of other weapons (except in emergencies) after the threatened to shoot a trainer for feeling her up.
Equipment Loadout: In a messenger bag on her back she keeps sutures, pain drugs (morphine, ect.), IV packs, bandages, and a hand-held body scanner (used for on the spot X-rays). She has a second bag that she keeps a laser-cutter, wire-connectors (for hacking into the circuitry of whichever building she’s in) a touch-screen holographic display (essentially a palm-sized laptop) that is linked to her visual display in her helmet, screwdrivers, pliers, wire strippers, alligator clips (to clamp to the wires she wishes to link into) and a set of wire-testers to ensure good connection and check which direction the signals are coming from.
Other: Kaite has a tattoo of a moon and sun on the small of her back, NO ONE knows of the file she got on Sigma -41 except for Victor and whichever high-level Military officials were informed of her digressions. She’s a bit of a smart-alec, but completely loyal to those who are loyal to her.

Gaian Name: MacTavishW3
Character Name: Alan MacLeod, Callsign "Balor"
Rank: Staff Sergeant
Role: Precision Warfare (Marksmanship, Tactical Analysis, Demolitions)
Gender: Male
Age: 30
Civilian Appearance: Alan stands 6'1" with an athletic build. He sports a head of medium-length, untidy brown hair and a pair of long straight sideburns. When in civilian gear he tends to wear rather nondescript clothing. Hooded sweaters, jeans, sneakers, leather jacket and the like. He has a kindly face and a very friendly smile, marred somewhat by a deep scar than runs under his left eye from the bridge of his nose to the base of his cheekbone.
Combat Appearance He wears standard Tac3 combat armour, custom-painted in a streaked tan, green and gray camo pattern with a dark maroon lining. The left shoulder pauldron bears the sword, scythe and shield emblem of UWG-7, MacLeod's old unit. His helmet is a modified variant of the standard-issue for Union Airborne Infantry, fully enclosed with a jet-black visor. The helmet also incorporates a pull down binocular visor. His plates are medium-density, smaller and more streamlined to allow him more ease when taking cover. His left wrist gauntlet incorporates a GPS/TacMap module.
Bio: Born in Old Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Alan had an interest in the history and evolution of warfare from a very early age. He was a straight-A student throughout his school days and many expected him to go into law or medicine, but he never even considered post-secondary. Having grown up during the war, witnessing it's escalation, Alan volunteered for the military two days after turning 18. He joined the Union's 405th Airborne division and saw action on Mars, in the Asteroid Belt and beyond. He proved himself an adept marksman and guerrilla warrior. He once spent three days commanding an ad-hoc squad of airborne troopers behind enemy lines during the battle of New Savannah after a badly scattered drop. Alan served for six years in the Airborne and acquired the rank of Warrant Officer before he applied and was accepted into the Union Special Operations, Unconventional Warfare Group 7. His specialties: marksmanship, improvised explosives and tactical analysis. The same skills he honed while performing black-ops behind Federation lines were those that put Alan on the radar of Project Polearm.
Weapon Loadout: Alan's primary weapon is a variant of the Mac 3 AR, the Mac 3.2 DSR (Designated Sharpshooter's Rifle). It features a longer barrel, telescopic sight, collapsible stock and front-mounted bipod. It can fire semi-automatic, three round bursts or full auto and is designed for short-to-medium range accurate fire support, rather than long-range assassination. Alan also carries a Mac 7 LRSW (Long Range Sniper Weapon) that can perform accurate killshots over three kilometers. The Mac 7's scope is more powerful than that of the 3.2 and it fires semi-automatic only. Alan usually carries the 7 disassembled in it's case. Alan also carries a Mac 2 .45 pistol, holstered at his right hip, and a SpecOps variant of the standard Union K-4 Combat Knife belted on his right boot. The K-4SOV (SpecOps Variant) features a longer, single edged blade made of blackened nano-carbon with a serrated lower edge. Depending on what the mission calls for, Alan also carries a number of different plastic explosives and detonators.
Equipment Loadout: GPS/TacMap module on left wrist, binocular visor, camo-netting, HHERD (Hand-Held Explosives Recognition Device), disarming equipment (wire cutters, pliers, etc), calculator incorporated into his helmet to assist with particularly long shots. He might have a book or two tucked away in his rucksack.
Other: Alan is a friendly individual, possessed of an unfailing sense of humour. He often jokes that his unofficial title is "Designated Smartass". Even so, Alan's sinister line of work has taken it's toll. His callsign refers to a God from Celtic mythology whose single eye could lay waste to entire armies. He's also shown signs of PTSD, but they haven't escalated and his consistency in the field tends to allay those concerns. He's very guarded and nobody knows quite how much his 12 years on the line have affected him.

Gaian Name: PhantomMagi
Character Name: Marcus Chaplain
Rank: Master Sergeant
Role: Heavy Support (Heavy Weapons and Mechanics)
Gender: Male
Age: 42

User Image
Civilian Appearance:6'4" with a working man's build, he can often be seen in working clothes, IE heavy boots, jeans, mechanics coat and a well worn shirt, often with some form of grease or oil (depending on what he'd been working on that day.) His demeanor is gruff and quiet. He can be loud and boisterous on the battlefield, but that doesn't seem to transition to his life off of it. One factor that never seems to change, duty or no, is his hat, which belonged to his father. It's said he once beat a man to within an inch of his life for hiding his hat, but there's no evidence to prove that. He also always seems to be smoking some kind of cigar, which he rolls himself and keeps in a small silver case. Around his neck he wears a small golden locket. No-one's ever seen the inside.
Combat Appearance:Unlike the rest of the squad, Marcus wears a suit of Tac3H, a heavy armour variant. While bulkier and heavier in all respects, it also has powered joints to make up for the lack of mobility. Built with thicker, more impact resistant plates, the plates cover much of his chest, arms, shoulders and waist area, with support plates around his legs and feet. The right shoulder is altered to integrate a belt-feeding ammo pack, situated in a pack on his back. To top it off he wears a full-face helmet with a cross-shaped visor window, not unlike a welders mask. His colour scheme sports a black suit with gunmetal grey plates, accented with crimson edges. His visor is a dull gold.

Bio: Born to a young mechanic and his wife on the colonies of Mars, Marcus grew up in his father's shop, cut his teeth on a monkey wrench, and learned to read from the repair manual for his dad's truck. Mechanics is in his blood. At the age of 12, despite lacking a proper education in the field, his skills had surpassed that of his father, much to pride of his family. However, at the age of 15, he abruptly came to own the shop himself, when during an assault by the federation his father was killed and his mother was left permanently hospitalized. Emotionally scarred and angry at his inability to do anything to save them, he immediately seeks to join the military and avenge them. He lied about his age (his height helping a good deal here) and was shipped off with the military as a repair technician. During his first battle, he manages to take down two Federation soldiers during an ambush using nothing but a wrench and a lead pipe, earning him his first two kills at the age of 16, and netting him a reputation as a ruthless combatant. In the years following, he turned to weapon repairs in his spare time, often modifying them to new purposes and leading him to eventually construct the first prototype of the Mac-7 HSC (Heavy Support Cannon), a rather cumbersome gatling weapon meant for mounting on the back of a truck. They stuck him in the field and he never seemed to leave, fighting battle after battle and eventually earning himself the rank of Master Sergeant. (Numerous times they offered him the position of Sergeant Major, but each was turned down as being 'too soft a position' for him.) With his fearsome reputation as a one man war machine spreading on both sides, Polearm sent word that they wanted him for both his mechanical prowess and his combat skills.

Weapon Loadout: First and foremost, his primary weapon: A heavily modified Mac-7 VHSC (Versatile Heavy Support Cannon). The weapon is dual purpose. In it's original form, 'Hellfire', it functions as a high powered Vulcan Cannon, belt fed from a pack installed into his right shoulder plate and back. With a command, the weapons eight barrels shift, lock and extend, forming a set of four magnetic rails and converting the gun into a rear-loading, high range gauss rifle. Thanks to his own modifications, the gun has an internal cartridge of four shots, but can be loaded with anything from tank rounds to his own grenades, making the weapon extremely versatile indeed. The entire construct, when fully deployed, sits at a length of about five feet long, including firing mechanisms, ammo repositories, and support structure. The unit has again been modified, however, with durable, collapsible parts, and can be compacted to a mere three feet and locked into the belt pack on his back. With a further shift in mechanics, it can be detatched and even deployed with a tripod (which Marcus doesn't often carry.)
In place of the standard combat knife, Marcus carries a multipurpose wrench, for both on-the-fly repairs and melee combat. On his left thigh, in an impact resistant case, he has hosltered a Mac 2 .357 Magnum pistol. Eight rounds, with an ammo pack and one ready-load cartridge attatched at his right hip. His belt holds space for six grenades, with another four attached to his chest plate at either side. His standard loadout contains four Fragmentation grenades, three EMP/Chaff Grenades (for systems and sensor disruption), and three Gas grenades (varying from Tear Gas to standard Smoke.) These can be changed out as the mission requires.

Equipment Loadout: Target Scanning device embedded in his helmet, combining a tracking system with a heat scanner, for locating and tracking larger targets and for keeping tabs on smaller ones. The helmet also contains a rather detailed HUD, keeping a steady readout of targets he's designated. He carries a toolkit with him at all times, kept in individual impact resistant cases along his belt. On the bottom of his pack he carries a small medkit as well containing a very basic set of healing supplies.

Other: Having served for as long as he has and as often as he has, his name is known among many on either side of the conflict. Whether or not he lets this go to his head is uncertain. He certainly seems sure of himself all the time, at any rate. Loyalty means the world to him, and he's never left a man behind if he could do otherwise.

Gaian Name: IamSTRANGE
Character Name: Kaleigh "K" MacFarlen
Rank: Sergeant
Role: Stealth Combat (Scouting, Close Combat)
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Civilian Appearance: K is a very slight girl, which belies her strength. She is only 5'2" but weighs 135lbs and it's all muscle. She has long brown hair that she keeps in a braid that hangs almost to her waist. Both of her eyes have been replaced with bionic ones, that help her see in places with little to no light. While off the clock she wears dark skinny jeans, and a black tank top, with a dark purple silk dress shirt over top and a pair of cowboy boots.
Combat Appearance Kaleigh's armor consists of as little armor plating as the Brass will allow. Most of which covers her torso, seeing as they haven't quiet worked out how to save anyone from a frag grenade to the chest. Her limbs have very little armor on them, and there is none on her joints, allowing her to move fast, and agilely. It is black with just a faint out line of dark purple. Her helmet has a visor that almost goes all the way around her head, allowing her field of vision to be as wide as possible. The entire thing is black, and the HUD consists of very little seeing as her eyes are mini computers themselves.
Bio: Kaleigh grew on one of the resource colonies in the asteroid belt, in an agricultural family, which really consisted of mechanics and botanoligists. When she was young her parents would have her climb inside the large machines used to produce food, or mine the minerals and fix something inside so they wouldn't have to take it apart. Due to this she has a minor knowledge of mechanics, but it never interested her so she didn't retain much.
When K was just 10 the asteroid she lived on got taken by the Prominence Empire and her family was killed in an explosion, which also damaged most of her face. The medics that found her were able to reconstruct her face, but her eyes were lost, they replaced them with bionic ones and set her to live at an orphanage on Mars. Like a scene out of Oliver, she took to the streets with some of the other orphans and began stealing to make money. She would steal electronics for hackers, and other things for various different underground groups. Several times she almost got caught, but her skill at slipping into small spaces saved her skin more than once.
She was on the police radar, and when she was 16 she finally got caught when one of her team-mates ratted her out. They held her for a week, trying to find a way to pin all of the robberies in the city on her, but they couldn't so the let her go on a minor theft charge. A couple times after that she got caught as people in her gang realized the money from the police was better than what they could make on the streets. On her 18th birthday she was on a job with some new people and they got caught in an ambush. The government had caught wind of her by this time, and were intrigued. They attended the interrogation of Kaleigh and thought she could help them learn some things so they scooped her up. For a year she was employed as a close combat teacher, and escape tactics. They soon decided that her skills would be better used on the field of battle, so she was transferred to spec ops, and eventually into Halberd.
Weapon Loadout: Kaleigh has never been one for ranged weapons, and so carries several knives about her body. Her favored weapon though is a katana made of an experimental composite of nano-carbon fibers and depleted uranium. She also has prototype versions of a new type of grenade. Shaped like a Kuni they have an explosive device embedded in the hilt, when thrown the these blades, made of the same material as her sword, pierce the armour of a vehicle and before detonating inside the vehicle.
Equipment Loadout: The only scouting equipment Kaleigh needs is her eyes. They allow her to see ridiculously long distances, and in any kind of lighting, using their various different settings like infrared, night vision, and x-ray, which makes scouting much easier. She also has a GPS/TacMap module on her wrist which allows her to mark key places, like enemy locations, or a good area to attack from.
Other: Kaleigh is a fun loving girl, and is always ready with a joke, but she never jokes about getting her revenge, when on the battle field she is as serious as an STD, and never bring up her family, if you know what’s good for you.

Operation Black Thunder

Objective: Reclaim the resource asteroid Sigma 7 for use as a foot hold and staging area for the reclaiming of the asteroid belt.

Specifics: The fourth fleet has been sent to take back the asteroid by force. In order to begin landing troops an orbiting defense station must be neutralized. Three Polearm units, Halberd, Morningstar and Spear will be deployed to take out the space station using high velocity boarding pods. Once on board, Halberd will make its way to one of the stations power generator rooms while the other two units create diversions. Once disabled, all Polearm units are to secure as much of the station as feasible and await reinforcements.

Operation Window: 15 minutes from initial launch.
PostPosted: Fri May 27, 2011 5:49 pm

Lieutenant Commander Victor Fenrir forced himself to take a deep breath as he felt the large boarding pod lurch into motion as it was slowly towed into position. The sudden feeling of anxiety he now felt had less to do with being behind the controls of a space craft that he could not even see out of, and more to do with the great expectations that had been placed upon him for his first command in the field. However, a quick look behind him at the faces of the four members of his team, already suited up and strapped into the tight grouping of four chairs helped him regain some of his confidence. His attention was quickly pulled back to the small control board and piloting stick as two indicator lights burst into life. "We've got the word, we're in position on the linear catapult and the firing sequence is locked in.... If anyone wants to say a prayer now's the time." Victor added in a half joking matter before he took a deep breath. Flipping a few switches the small screen in front of him came to life with a sensor feed of the space in front of them. The corridor they were facing was miraculousness clear of debris for this section of the belt, with the only obstacle the computer could detect being the distant asteroid and station.

"All units, Operation Black Thunder will launch in T minus ten seconds. Nine. Eight. Seven." As the disembodied voice of the fleet commander filled the small pod, Victor settled back into his chair and tightened his grip on the stick. "Two. One. Launch!"

The acceleration of the pod was overwhelming, pressing Victor back into his seat more than any take off he had ever preformed. It only lasted a few moments before the pod left the magnetic grip of the cannon and leapt out into space. As the the three jet black pods approached the space stations outer range a large red light lit up on Victor's console. "Hold on everyone, we've got incoming!" Hand tight on the yoke, Victor began to move it deftly about, causing the pod's maneuvering thrusters to fire and bounce the pod left and right, up and down. After each move the space the pod had previously vacated would soon be filled by a barrage of anti-ship fire. Seconds seemed like minutes to Victor as he jinked and juked as best he could to avoid the incoming fire from the station yet before he knew it the dash began to blare the collision alarm. "We're within two klicks! Brace for impact!" He shouted to his squad even as a few lucky shells impacted on the hull of the pod. "s**t I hope that didn't throw us off..." He cursed to himself as he tried to line up the planned impact mark on the hull of the station. "Here it comes, brace! Brace!" Victor yelled right before the pod connected with the thick hull of the space station.

The sudden impact caused the armour plating of the station to peel inwards with a great shriek of metal on metal. A split second later, the pod's automated systems activated a layer of foam along the pods midsection that quickly sealed off any gaps between the two hulls and created a new air tight seal.

Despite the sudden shock to his system from the impact, Victor forced himself from the pilots seat and over to where his loose equipment lay secure. "Sound off Halberd, status of weapons and yourselves."

With no major wounds reported, Victor moved around to the front hatch of the pod, making sure to stand back from the door he keyed the hatch release. Peering around the edge of the door he caught a glimpse of a large room filled with Federation soldiers and equipment, some of which were already starting to recover from the sudden blast. As shots began to ring off the hull, Victor began to issue his first combat orders. "We were diverted off course, landed in some kinda muster room. Marcus, get out there and give them something to think about. Kaleigh, while their heads are down you're going to cut a way to the closest door, get it open and deal with what ever's on the other side and wait for us to join you. Alan you cover her, take out anyone that tries to cut her off. Kaitlyn, you stay glued to my side until further notice. Alright lets move!" Nodding to the others Victor activated his Mac-3 rifle and took up position on the right side of the hatch, ready to cover Marcus as he stepped out.

Specialist Grade 2.......yuck.Kaite thought miserably as she tried to will herself a million lightyears away from her current spot. She'd never volunteered for this position, never wanted to be in the army. She was a Hacker after all. Top class Hacker to be exact...and yet, here she was. Because she'd trusted others enough to get caught. Okay, to be fair, she probably shouldn't have been snooping about the Union's top-secret files, and perhaps threatening to post those files virally on the web had pushed the army a bit much.

As they waited for their pod to launch, Kaite sighed and shifted in her seat. She'd been apart of these types of missions for nearly as long as their commander Victor Fenrir. After all this time, the armor still chaffs. The collar the Military had placed on me still rubs the wrong way. I wonder if I will ever forgive them for putting me in these situations....

Kaite was jostled out of her pouting - not that she'd call it that - when Victor spoke, though she only had time to mutter mutinously, a slight smirk on her pale face to prove that she wouldn't be a problem on the mission, "Why bother? All mine to stay on a nice safe ship a few lightyears away from the gunfire continues to get ignored....its like you people expect me to leave you all behind or something."

And then the count-down started and Kaite was forced to swallow a yelp that always attempts to escape her lips when pods accelerate. Grimacing as Victor began to pilot their pod, Kaite closed her eyes. It seemed that it always scared her more when she watched the man fly. Stupid idiotic pilot...why can't he ever fly in a straight line?! Kaite whinned in her head.

Kaite cringed as Victor started shouting. Of course they would hit something. Didn't they almost always? Gritting her teeth as they landed, Kaite snapped her eyes open to glare at Victor. He'd ordered a status report that the girl was ignoring to unstrap and stretch. Once the others had sounded off Kaite rolled her eyes and rattled off absently, gathering her two bags as the others collected their own gear, "I'm fine, bruised but not broken...yet. Nice driving Victor. Remind me again why I couldn't Hack this tub from the base?"

Kaite was absently listening to Victor's assessment and orders as she settled her gear, making sure she had everything she needed to get into the space station's defense system quickly, even if it meant holing up in some utility closet hard-wired into the system. When Victor addressed her, she looked over at him, slipping her helmet on over the blonde knot she'd made of her hair. Stay glued to his side...seriously.... Smirking, Kaite asked sweetly, her look anything but thrilled at the new orders, "Lovely. Have I mentioned lately how much I hate this gig? I'm going to need a quiet little corner with some wiring I can expose if you want this thing's controls anytime in the near future...."

Kaite knew that Victor knew all of this already, they'd trained enough for this mission to know that she'd need to get at their wiring since she couldn't remotely hack the system in question. Slipping in against the hull of their pod behind Victor, Kaite muttered for Victor's ears only, "Has anyone told you lately that you are a scary driver? Seriously, where'd you learn to fly?"

Throughout the pod ride, Marcus remains largely silent, occupying most of his time running a mental inventory of his gear. He casually pulls a cigar from his pack just as Victor calls for incoming fire. He sighs, putting it back. "If you get me killed before we even get there, I swear, I'm taking you with me." He grips the sides of his seat as the pod lurches from side to side, then impacts the side of the station.

Quickly heaving himself out of his seat, Marcus smiles grimly. "Sergeant Chaplain. Minor physical trauma. Nothing unexpected." He swings his cannon down off a rack, swiftly hooking it into his armour and powering up the suits internal systems. "VHSC Online and operational." In one swift action, his pulls off his hat and swaps it for the helmet at his side, pulling it down tight and locking it in place. He gives the barrel an experimental spin. "Heavy weapons, ready to roll."

He pulls a device from his belt, primes it, then tosses it into the room. A few seconds later, a blinding flash of light issues from the doorway. "Flashbang. That, with me, should give you at least a minute of free movement." He steps out into the doorway, slapping down the faceplate of his helmet. "Let's make some noise, girl." His gun spins into life, a veritable wall of bullets pouring into the room, causing soldiers to scatter and dive behind cover. The unlucky, unarmoured few caught in the spray are torn apart in moments. He rolls to one side, maintaining fire on the various spots of cover as he sees movement. "Not gonna do all the work myself, ladies! Let's MOVE, MOVE, MOVE!"

Alan MacLeod had performed more combat jumps than he cared to count. He'd performed them in atmosphere, from orbit, he'd even performed a ship-to-ship jump once. Even so, he was nervous.
The big jump always goes wrong, he grumbled inwardly. It wasn't pessimistic, it wasn't even a complaint. It was a plain simple fact. Anti-air fire, weather, buggered calculations could all contribute to something screwing up. Well, he thought, Landing alive is the important thing. And we've all got a better chance of surviving a landing in this thing than we would in exo-pods.
Having settled his pre-combat jitters at least somewhat, Alan cast a glance around the pod at his teammates. With the exeption of Chaplain they were all practically kids. Kids who had proved themselves in training, but kids nonetheless. Alan got on with most of them just fine. Victor was a solid commander with a good head on his shoulders, Alan felt no qualms about following his orders. Kaleigh had made a good impression too. She had both a healthy sense of humour and combat experience and Alan got along fine with her. He still felt most comfortable around Chaplain though. They were the old men of the group and Chaplain was the only one who could boast of more field-time than Alan. Katie, on the other hand, had not made the best impression. All she had done since training was b***h and moan and the fact that she'd been a marketer of classified information didn't exactly make her very trustworthy.
"Hey, chin up, Specialist," he quipped in response to her grumbling "It could be worse. We could be jetting towards the station in individual exo-suits with nothing to save us from tumbling off into the infinite nothingness but our own individual skills and a series of tiny thruster pods made by the lowest bidder." He gave one of his characteristic lopsided grins before donning his helmet, hiding his face behind a visor as black as the void. "Gripe all you want, but this is about as ideal as it gets for people like us."
When Victor started to perform his evasive manouvres, Alan pulled up the schematics of the station on his TacMap gauntlet. He tried to plot the course of the pod, but there was just no telling where they were going to land.
Best I can do is figure it out when we- his thoughts were cut short by the pods impact with the station. The safety harness barely kept his armour-clad form secure. His paratrooper training kicked in and he instincitvely curled into a ball, preventing his limbs and head from being jostled about.
"Sound off Halberd, status of weapons and yourselves." called Victor.
"Sergeant MacLeod, locked, loaded and ready to roll, sir." he growled, punching the harness release. He quickly called up the station layout and zeroed their location.
"Kaliegh! The door that'll get us to the power generators is near the left wall of this barrack-room. Uploading coordinates to your TacMap!" Alan extracated himself from the pod behind Chaplain and wheeled around to the left. Using the pod for cover he scanned the room for Federation Officers. He fixed his crosshairs on one soldier, waving his arms about and directing men to counteract the recently arrived threat.
"Thank you, Captain Obvious," Alan muttered. One shot from Alan's DSR took the officer in the middle of the forehead and dropped him in a spray of blood. "I've got your, back Kaliegh," he called, picking out his next target, "Hoof it!"

Throughout the entire flight K was silent, her mind was racing with thoughts of failure. You'll do fine. She told herself over and over again as they sped through space towards a mass of enemies. As they collided with the space station she was pulled out of her thoughts and into the present. "Sergeant MacFarlen, shaken, but in one piece." She said releasing the harness and standing up, stretching her limbs, and slamming her helmet on her head. Checking the status of her weapons took a few seconds as she pulled her sword out of it's sheath on her back. "All weapons in working order."

Kaleigh stood by quietly while MacLeod and Fenrir assessed the situation and told the others what to do. A little blip appeared on the map that seemed to hover over her left wrist, One target, easy... right? She followed on MacLeod's heels into the room that seemed to be full of noise. At first all she had to do was follow him and not get shot as they made their way to the door that would lead them to the generators, but soon the enemies had re-organized themselves, and a few got close enough for her to have some fun. Whirling her sword in a black blur she began to hack apart the soldiers, limbs and blood flying away from her like confetti. As she reached the door, she put her life in MacLeod's hands as she plunged her sword into the door frame and began cutting a hole in the wall. There was no point in trying to see if it was open. Doors to important places were always locked. In what felt like hours, but was probably more like a few minutes she had cut a hole that was large enough to fit Chaplain and his gear. With a swift kick to the wall the piece fell into the neighboring room and she followed it, her sword spinning rapidly.

The generator room had only two people in it and they looked to be merely mechanics, but that didn't register in Kaleigh's mind, all she saw was enemies that had to be eliminated. Grabbing a throwing knife from the pocket at her waist, she threw it at the mechanic to her right, before rushing at the other. Her knife embedded itself in the mechanic's neck, causing him to fall to the ground gurgling and clutching at his throat. The others death was no less gruesome as her sword caught him between his legs and bifurcated him. A quick glance around the room told Kaleigh that there were no more targets, but there was another door. Rushing over to cover it she stayed put until the others arrived. So far so good... She thought, her heart pounding so loud she thought that everyone must be able to hear it.

Victor felt proud to see his squad jump into action to follow out his orders so quickly. The moment only lasted until the next barrage of bullets hammered against the pod`s hull, when the commander`s attention was once again brought back to the enemy`s in the room. Taking his position once more Victor began to duck back and forth around the side of the hatch to fire quick bursts from his assault rifle. While he was mostly trying to keep the enemy pinned down behind the various crates and other forms of cover, he did manage to connect with a few shots. He kept up the base of fire until MacLeod and MacFarlen had moved out of the pod in Chaplin`s wake.

Once they were out and the enemy was pissing their pants from the wall of bullets that were sweeping out from Chaplin`s minigun, Victor peeled off from the pod hatch to return to the pod`s console for a few moments. Imputing a quick series of command on the console and his the command uplink on his right forearm he slaved the pod`s systems to the device before returning to the hatch and his hacker. "Kaite, get ready for a run. On my signal beat a path to Kaleigh as fast as you can." Hitting a small button on the side of his helmet Victor activated the comm link system tuned to the others. "We're moving, MacLeod get to the door and cover us as we go. Chaplin slow march to the door as we cross, keep them pinned." Taking a deep breath Victor nodded to the girl. "Go!"

Victor stepped out into the room once more spraying assult rifle fire in a long arc as Kait burst into a sprint. He finished the arc just as his clip ran dry, at which point he turned to chase after the specialist grabbing a spare clip as he ran. He could hear and occasionally feel near misses from sporadic fire zip passed him. In the last few feet Victor leapt forward and dropped into a knee slide across the floor, dropping him out of the line of fire as he passed though the makeshift door Kaleigh had just made. Grabbing the edge of the opening Victor spun around to come up in a crouch opposite to MacLeod once more. A quick glance back at the door Kaleigh was beside told him that it was too thick to cut though quickly.

"Kait, get that door open ASAP. K, go clear out once its open, I'll be right behind you."

After another hail of bullets, Marcus pulls up his gun and shouts into his comm. "You heard the man, Macleod! Thermal's picking up more hostiles inbound down the right corridor! Thirty, maybe forty in total! Heavy s**t, too! Sooner we get outta this room and into the facility, the better!" He rains down another fifty rounds onto the remains of what was once decent cover, then hustles across the room to the makeshift doorway, pausing only to slam the barrel of his gun into the side of a rising soldiers head, causing him to topple into a pair of former colleagues.

He spins around, firing another volley at the room at large, his visor blinking with each target downed. He turns and flips up his helmet, shouting into the cutaway door. "All clear! Got maybe six left alive in there, and they're not in any condition to give us much trouble! Now we got maybe seventy-five seconds before we're up to our balls in bullets! Me'n Balor can keep 'em busy, but there's no guarantee how long! So you just get your s**t done so we can get the hell out of here! That understood, girly?" He gives her a quick stern glare, then slaps his helmet back down and turns his back to the door, priming his gun for the oncoming counter-attack.

Alan popped off a few more shots from beside the pod. A machine-gunner and a rifleman spun back from shots to the chest and about a dozen more Feddies hit the deck. That gave Alan enough time to displace and relocate behind a series of crates that gave him a better vantage point for covering Kaleigh. The soldiers he'd pinned began to chase after her.
Good sign, Alan thought, If they don't want us getting through that door then there's clearly something important behind it. He managed to take most of them down, but a few got past his fire to the small CQB specialist.
And how I pity them. At least I make it quick and clean.
"Left side, clear!" the marksman called as Kaleigh hit the door. Alan shifted his view to the right and held his fire. Chaplain didn't need much help keeping them pinned, Alan's shots would just be lost in the hail of bullets. Then a door on the room's right side open.
"Oh, go to hell," growled Alan. What looked like a fresh platoon had just run in and was beginning to return fire. "Confirmed, Chaplain. Multiple enemy contacts, right! Thirty plus change!" He reloaded and cast a glance over to Kaleigh. The door was open.
"We're moving, MacLeod get to the door and cover us as we go. Chaplin slow march to the door as we cross, keep them pinned." ordered Victor.
"Copy that, sir!" Alan was on his feet in an instant and quickly beat a path to the door. Once inside he shifted his aim and switched his fire select to burst. He only needed one shot to kill, but the more rounds there were in the air, the more cover the Feds would seek. With all the fire around there was no way to tell who was in charge, so Alan contented himself with targeting the gunners first, and then any other poor b*****d who caught his fancy.
The others covered the distance quickly and when they were finally all inside, Alan pulled a grenade from his belt and yanked out the pin.
"Frag out!" he bellowed as he let the grenade fly. An explosion and a series of agonized groans confirmed it's effectiveness. Alan popped back up over the lip of the door and continued to pick and fire.
"Helluva first day." he muttered.

Kaite didn't need a second order to make a run for the relative safety of the other room. She had no interest in being shot. She trusted Victor enough after their trainings to be fairly confident he wouldn't order her to run for it unless the odds of her getting shot were slim. Glancing quickly out at the men firing at them, Kaite shivered once and sprinted for the door, holding in a yelp as one bullet missed her by seconds. Lucky shot.....lucky miss too.....

Once inside the next room, Kaite quickly saw what Victor had. There was no way the other girl was going to cut through that door. Kaite was already moving towards the door, digging in her bag for her code hacker (a small handheld screen that she'd wire into the door's control panel and let it run-through combinations until the door opened) and her holographic laptop.

Kaite had reached the door and was peeling off the control panel when Marcus stuck his head in to tell her that she had to 'get her sh*t done so they could all leave'. Kaite didn't bother turning around, acting as if she was ignoring him while saving her glare for the control panel. She couldn't rush technology much but she was going to try. as if I don't want out of here just as much as the rest...

Reinforcements had arrived -and not for their side- by the time her equipment was hooked up and running. Swearing, Kaite crouch down on the floor and started to 'help' her equipment along. All in all hacking the door took no more than 20 seconds, 30 if you counted hooking up her equipment. As the door slid open, Kaite typed in one last line of code before yanking her equipment from the control panel and shouting, "We're in!"

Slipping inside the room, Kaite hid by the doorway and waited for the last of her team to join them before hitting a button that slid the door shut. Turning to Victor, she added calmly, eyes still flashing a bit in anger, "I reset the pass codes while I was in there, unless they get past my virus, they won't be able to get that door open again. Password's the unit name....if you want to get through there again....."

As much as she wanted to talk to Marcus, to yell at him for telling her how to do her own job, Kaite bit her tongue. She'd get even with him when they were back on base. Just because she spoke her mind when asked a question....and those thoughts didn't mesh with the military's thoughts on proper conduct.....didn't mean that she wouldn't do everything she could to get the team through this alive....it was her life on the line too after all. Glancing around the room, Kaite murmured softly "Bingo."

It looked like the space station's server room. Walking over to the first wall humming servers, Kaite pulled her knife out and pried the cage door away from the wiring. Once it was open, she started digging into the wires. Now the real fun began.

Once the rest if Halberd got into the server room and the door sealed behind them, Victor wasted no time in pulling up the station schematic on his command uplink. Reading the hologram over quickly he located their destination and double checked the timer that seemed to be counting down way too quickly. "Alright everyone we've got 10 on the clock so listen up. Kaite you're staying here, lock this room up as tight as you can and stash yourself away. I want as much of the system as you can access quickly, the master controls can wait. Everyone else with me, we're pushing to the objective." He caught some of the others looking back at the room they had just come from and the 30 or so soldiers that would be knocking on the door soon. "You wont have to worry about them much longer Kaite." Lifting his right forearm up to chest level he hit a quick command key, bringing up a hologram of their pod which soon began to flash red along the ring of maneuvering thrusters. "Well, he's hoping that this door is as strong as it looks." One more key press and a large blast could be heard from the room beyond as the maneuvering thrusters overloaded, blasting out the foam layer that kept the vacuum of space away from the company of Federation troops. Victor forced his mind from dwelling on the horrific way the men were perishing at that moment and back to his squad. "Alright, lets move out."

Leaving Kaite behind, the quartet of Union soldiers moved though the halls of the station towards the nearest power station. Victor was doubly thankful for MacFarlen's skills as her taking point kept them out of any long, drawn out fire fights in the hallways. They were further aided by Kaite's growing control over the systems, allowing her to open doors and momentarily shut down security measures along their way.

Once they had reached their objective Victor activated his comm, whispering as quietly as his helmet mounted microphone would pick up. "Kaite, give us the door to the generator room open in twenty seconds." Looking at the others he motioned for K to take up a position opposite to him beside the door. "We're going in quiet, K and I first. Wait for the all clear." Victor's hands moved on their own as he spoke, pulling out the Raptor machine pistol mounted on his right thigh and the long combat knife from the small of his back. Disenguaging the safety on his pistol and setting it to single fire as the door opened, following Kaleigh in though the now open door.
