The Japanese should consider themselves luck though. Yes it is a tragedy what happened, but here are several reasons why it won't be a huge deal compared to the Haiti Earthquake or the Christmas '04 Tsunami.
1) Location~ Japan is easy to get to and it is pretty large. Not to mention that it is close to other countries that can easily help out. It is also easy for help from around the world to get to.
2) It's Repaired~ Japan gets a lot of earthquakes because it is on the edge of a tectonic plate. The buildings there are built for earthquakes (that's why you see footage of buildings in Tokyo swaying).
3) They are a Developed Nation~ This is going to be the biggest benefactor in the whole operation. As a developed nation they have the ability to aid themselves until further help arrives. Haiti, Sri Lanka, and the other island nations that got hit, are all developing nations. They couldn't help themselves because they didn't have any way too.
I still think this mess is horrible, but the outcome isn't going to be as bad as some of the previous natural disasters.

i agree that it wont take long to fix....but what happened was still horrible. My school is 50% asian ...I can't imagine how depressing my school is going to be for the next few weeks...one of my freinds is actually going back because her grandmother is one of the 70,000 missing

I honestly feel awfully sorry for everyone and anyone affected by both the earthquake and/or tsunami. All I can say is I give them my condolences and I'll be keeping them all in my thoughts and prayers..
