many relgious traditions practice meditation.
some conservative christians claim it is too much like yoga or buddhism, but others, like the eastern orthodox, are practically founded upon it.
do you feel it is just a technique, value free?
or does it indeed carry religious content, so that one who practices it might be influenced away from their basic belief?

Not really, It's just a form of relaxation made popular by Buddhists and some other people. That does'nt mean you can't just take it for yourself with no strings attached. Your trying to clear your mind, not call spirits.

I took a meditation class once, it was really cool. Meditation is mainly used for relaxation and concentration, but if you practice it enough (I have never gotten to this state but I've heard firsthand stories) you can enter into this state of higher consciousness. Apparently you just sort of lose yourself and you can sit for hours, coming out of it and feeling like it had only been a few minutes. It like brings you into this state of higher awareness of the world.
But if nothing else it's really healthy for you. Even a few minutes a day will dramatically reduce stress levels and such.

meditation is about reflecting about yourself and seeking a means to find spiritual peace. or so this1 has read. it doesnt really conflict with anything, in fact this1 feels it a good idea to meditate as it helps you find answers to problems you have, and other such things.

Meditation is more of a "journey" within, as opposed to without. At least, it is for me. So I don't view it as religious - it's a form of, as a couple people said, relaxation and finding self-balance. Organizing my thoughts. Calming myself. In Tae Kwon Do, we meditate before and after each lesson.
