More of an AR (alternate reality) than an AU. Instead of being encased in ice for a thousand years, Sherra dies, and her 'body' disappears. For the next few years, Dynast sends his new priestess, Juri, to different human villages with the theory that Sherra would eventually be reincarnated. After a few months, Juri had discovered the reborn Sherra. But the girl was still a small child, and so the Ice King chose to wait, until she was older to reclaim his general.

By the time it had all come to an end, both had suffered great losses. All but one of the Dark Lords' subordinates had to be replaced. The biggest 'tragedy' was the killing spree and suicide of the Ice King's general; the one who'd been known as Sherra. Despite the disgrace of what she had done, the Ice King attempted to resurrect his general, only to discover that she had already been reborn as a human. Through his new priestess, he was able to locate the girl, but she was still merely a child. He would have to wait until she was old enough before he could reclaim what was his. Fortunately, he was a very patient man...

--------------------

"You don't seem too surprised by this, Xellos." The Beastmaster watched her sole servant thoughtfully, watching for any sign that what she had revealed had had any effect on him. He stood there completely motionless, his cold amethyst eyes locked on the wall beside her. Even though she put up with so many of his antics, he knew better than to make eye-contact with his Lord and creator.
"Of course not. This is the sort of thing Lord Dynast would do." It didn't surprise him in the least that the Ice King had kept this from them all. He was always keeping secrets. A habit that Xellos could appreciate to some extent. Though the fact that he'd kept
this to himself was rather irritating.
"Yes, I suppose it does. He probably believed you would intervene the instant you found out." Beastmaster said. She knew how close to his deceased partner her monster was. It was only natural. There were so few that had the bond those two had had. And only a few short years had passed between now and her suicide. She would have been surprised if it hadn't bothered him at least a little.
"So why is he informing us of this now?"
"It seems the girl is finally of age to rejoin the Monster Race, and Grausherra wants you to be the one to collect her. Her name's Leah Sterling. She's currently residing in a town in the Zephilia Province. Locate her and bring her to the Northern Fortress." Her priest gave a slight bow before disappearing in a purple blur.
------------------------------------

"I'm going out!" Leah shouted as she ran downstairs and through the kitchen. "Don't stay out too long, Leah." her mother said, glancing away from her baby sister, who gave a greeting through a mouthful of bread. "Though, honestly, I don't see why you have to go and see him first thing in the morning."

"When did I say I was going to see him, Mom? Can't I just go into town for the fun of it anymore?" Leah retorted, placing her fists on her hips in a pout. Ms Sterling merely laughed at her daughter's actions. She, of course, knew the real reason. Leah wasn't all that fond of socializing. She wouldn't just go into town unless she had a reason to. "Alright, just make sure to stay within the village. I don't want you going anywhere near the forest."

"I know, Mom. I'm not four." Leah brushed a lock of deep green hair off her shoulder and then turned towards the door. "I'll be back later. See ya!" she didn't hear her mom's reply as she raced out of the house. The first thing to greet her was the cool morning wind, and the teen stretched her arms over her head. She hated how her mother always had to tell her not to leave the village every time she left the house. It was common knowledge. The forests were filled to the brim with lesser demons. Any human stupid enough to go into their territory was ripped to shreds and devoured. The world was a very dangerous place for a human.

It's ridiculous though. The forests aren't even that close to the village. There's a couple miles of field between them... Leah thought to herself as she walked briskly through the market, returning the greetings of the inhabitants who acknowledged her. Sadly, the teen had never been very good at listening to orders. As soon as she left the market, she wandered through alley after alley, until she finally reached the wall that surrounded her hometown. It was close to twenty feet in height, and made completely of brick. She rolled away a thin slab of rock, revealing a section where the bricks had been blown away; it was beyond her how the structure could still be intact with such a large chunk missing.

She glanced from side to side, as if to make sure that no one had been following her, and then proceeded out of the hole and into the fields outside. From the hill she was standing on, she could see past the edge of where the forest started; they seemed to go on forever. It wouldn't surprise her if the whole continent was covered in them. It would explain why there were never any travelers going through here. There were probably no other human settlements. The only stranger to have ever come to this village had been him, and even she wasn't entirely sure where he'd come from before that. Leah glanced over her shoulder again, clearly suspicious that someone was following her, and then decided to leave the hill. As long as she didn't get too close to the forest, then she wouldn't likely be attacked. Besides, she was sixteen now, she was old enough to know when something was too dangerous.

{{ bleh. I had a better post, but it was deleted. }}

Cerras was hidden around the corner as Zelas and Xellos spoke, staying ever-so-silent, shifting along the wall every now and then. She had her presence hidden, but it didn’t mean she was invisible. Even when they were all on the same side, everyone needed privacy. But it was orders from the Hellmaster to see what was going on, and be a part of it. Her golden-yellow eyes peered around the corner, and they widened as she heard the same name being repeated again. Sherra… Sherra…. Leah… Leah… they were the same person, apparently. She’d have to find out more as well. She watched as her companion teleported away, and she did as well.
” Leah Sterling, huh? “ She didn’t give any warning that she was there, did she need to? ”Well, sadly her presence sticks out like a sore thumb…. Xellos, does this really need to be done? This may be Sherra… but not completely. She has a human soul now. It wouldn’t be right if we took her away from that…” Maybe she was just speaking for herself, she was a human at first, so she knew what it was like to be taken away from that.

*******

Leviathan's ears gave a bit of a twitch as he sensed someone make their way into the forest. No one in the town was really supposed to be in these parts because of the danger of lesser demons; he did his best to watch around for any before they could get to any humans, but he couldn't make a promise that he'd get them all.
He had a feeling he knew who the human was, the presence was familiar, and the individual always came here hoping to find him; her "big brother". A small smirk made its way across his lips when an idea formed in his mind, and he quickly, but silently, made his way across the forest to where she was, sneaking behind her and pulling her back, before whispering in her ear, " Boo." He then backed up a bit, becoming alert. There were others around as well. ”Leah, stay close, alright? And if anything gets too close to you and I can’t help you get away, use this. Remember the training?” Yes, he had trained her; he knew she was good with a sword in her past life, so he taught her to use one again. She got the hang of it pretty quick, so there wasn’t much left to teach her. ”Remember the warnings I gave you. They’re coming. I can sense it. ” “They” were monsters and lesser demons, he’d told her all of the reasons they wanted her; he didn’t keep any of it hidden. Even so, this was her life now… why couldn’t the creeps just get the hint and leave her the hell alone?

If he had thought to bet money on whether Cerras would pop up or not, then he would have been a very wealthy man now. Wherever he was, chances were she was close behind. Either she was enjoying his company more than he had expected, or Hellmaster was suddenly taking an interest in what his Mistress was doing. He was about to turn around to face her, and ask what her business was here, when she suddenly started asking about Leah. He smirked slightly, wagging a finger at her. "It's not very becoming of a woman to eavesdrop, Miss Cerras." he said disapprovingly, before hearing the rest. "It's an order, Miss Cerras. Whether or not I believe it's the correct action to take is irrelevant." He wasn't completely sure that this was what was best for her either. He wasn't even sure if 'Sherra' existed at all in this girl. It was likely that she could have her 'soul', but ultimately have none of his partner's 'self'. The only way to know for sure was to actually meet her, and see for himself. Zelas never said he couldn't talk to her while he collected her.

-----------------------------------

Where the hell is he? Leah ran a hand through her light green hair as she looked around at the trees, looking for some sign of Leviathan. He usually always popped up by now. Her mother had no idea that she was sneaking out of the village to see him. She had always believed that he lived somewhere in town, and just kept to himself. If she found out about her daughter's trips beyond the wall, Leah would be in so much trouble.

She was about to give up and leave, when she suddenly felt arms around her. A small gasp escaped her as she slumped backwards, her back resting against something warm, and the arms around her tightened into an almost hug. She tried to gather her wits and asks the person's name, when she felt breath next to her face.

"Boo."

Her brown eyes widened in shock, while her cheeks turned beet red, and she squirmed in Leviathan's grasp. "That wasn't funny, Leviathan." she said unhappily, scowling at him when he pulled away from her and took a step back. At least he seemed to understand she'd wanted him to let go. She really was happy to see him, but she could only take so much of his teasing. She was about to say more, when she saw the look on his face. He looked tense. They were in a rather dangerous location, but this wasn't the first time she'd found him in the forest. They'd trained here before. It didn't make sense for him to look like that.

”Leah, stay close, alright? And if anything gets too close to you and I can’t help you get away, use this. Remember the training?” He then handed her the sword she always practiced with. "Remember the warnings I gave you. They’re coming. I can sense it. ” She gave a nervous nod, drawing the blade out of it's sheath, and stood next to him, taking on the defensive stance he'd taught her. To be honest, she really had no idea what was going on.

It was true that Leviathan had told her everything, but she had, unfortunately, not taken any of it to heart. They'd been stories he'd tell her as a child when he'd visit her room, or when they were just relaxing in one of the fields. There was no way they could have been true. They were all about wars, and monsters, and magic. Things that, to her knowledge, didn't exist. And as the stories continued on into the years, she'd started to think that maybe he was spending a little too much time in the bars. There was such thing as a calm drunk, wasn't there?

She kept glancing from side to side, trying to spot whatever was after them before it could get to her. She couldn't sense things like Leviathan could, and so had no idea what was coming or how close it was. "Are they still coming...?" she asked quietly. She still hadn't seen anything, so she was starting to wonder if this was just another of Leviathan's pranks.

{{ poo. :/ }}

Cerras pouted when Xellos disapproved her eavesdropping, "If it was in any other situation, you would be congratulating me! I-It was Hellmaster's orders..." She didn't exactly want to say no to him, ever; all the monsters knew what the lord would do. "I know, an order's an order and you can not go against them. " She glanced at his face for just a moment, and was able to tell what he was thinking. "At least you think similarly... that's all I need to know." They were both just following orders. Going against them would mean punishment. And she didn't want to deal with that, not now.

***

Leviathan glanced over to Leah silently, and gave a nod. "They're in town. They're trying to track you down. Come on." He used magic to seal away the girl's presence, and cloaked his own as well, before leading her along. " Come on." She thought he was lying to her? Not even close. They monsters were right on their tail, and if they stayed at this area for too long, them and the lesser demons would find them. He led her through a path in the forest, away from the town.

"I suppose that's true...." he admitted. Xellos probably would have praised her for doing her job, since she had been resistant in the beginning. He just liked giving her a hard time. It was a favored hobby of his. He had to amuse himself somehow. He merely shrugged when she commented on them sharing the same opinion. He couldn't really say that he had an opinion at all at this point. After all, he didn't know if capturing this Leah girl would even bring them closer to bringing back Sherra at all. It was all a gamble. He could only hope that this wouldn't turn out to be a waste of his time.

He caught the last traces of the human's aura before it faded completely, as well as the demonic presence. He recognized it, of course; it was the clingy cat Sherra had picked up at some point. It figured that he would have sniffed Leah out. The demon was more obsessive than most. "They're heading further into the forest. We'll have to cut them off somehow..." muttered the priest. He didn't care about fighting the demon; might be fun. As he was thinking about what he was going to do to said demon, he suddenly became aware of more demonic auras near the town. Now we have a multitude of demons to deal with...

-----------------------------------
In the town?? It didn't appear that the monsters were aware of where she was yet, but the fact that they were so close to figuring it out was rather alarming. Leah bit her lower lip lightly, taking her eyes off the surrounding woods. As worrying as it was, she couldn't shake the thought of what they might do to the villagers to find out where she was. While she was lost in her thoughts, Levi had grabbed onto her wrist and was leading her through the forest. In a moment of brief stupidity, she thought that Levi was taking her back to the village. That they were going to stop the demons from hurting anyone. But then she looked over her shoulder and saw that the wall was disappearing behind the trees. They were going away from the village. "Where are we going?" she asked, then tried to tug her arm free. "We can't just leave! What if they go after my family? We have to get rid of them!!" She didn't understand why he was doing this. It didn't make any sense to her. Why was he so determined to keep the monsters away from her? Was this part of those stories he kept telling her? It wasn't that she didn't trust him. She trusted him more than anyone. But they were just so....far-fetched. No human would believe them. I mean, her a monster? It wasn't possible. They had no souls. No feelings, nothing. Just like the demons didn't have them.

Cerras pouted when Xellos used the word "supposed in his answer to her, and crossed her arms, following him around childishly. She realized at the same time that the demon and human's presence disappeared. " Well, he knows we're coming. So he'll try his best to avoid us... " She thought to herself for a moment, "but Leah's family is here. There's no doubt Leah will force the demon to help save them. Her human emotions will get in the way. Shall we go? "

***

Cerras's guess was right. As soon as Leviathan heard Leah going on about "going back" and "saving her family", he couldn't help but turn back. He had thought to himself for a moment, and if he just let them die, there was no way Leah would trust him. But once they returned, they would have a little surprise. The lesser demons were already well into destroying the village. " Alright... " He let out a sigh, and gave a small shake of his head. " Let's go. But it has to be quick, alright? Don't trust strangers. " He explained monsters like Xellos, and scowled. " Understand?" They were already halfway back-- he just wanted to be sure Leah understood-- that she wouldn't get into trouble. Most humans would.

Xellos was about to answer, when the demons attacking finally reached their location. They weren't very powerful, but the sheer number of them caused a problem. And it didn't seem like the villagers were equipped to defend themselves against the attacks. Not wanting to waste too much energy, he gathered energy into the red gem on his staff, and fired spheres of green light at any who got too close to him or Cerrras.

-----------------------------------

Leah smiled slightly when Leviathan agreed to go back to the village to help her family. She hadn't been sure that he would even agree at all. So the fact that he was made her happy. After he explained the monsters to her, she nodded her head in understanding. "Alright. I'll stay away from anyone like that." she answered. Then she followed behind him towards the village. As they drew closer, she suddenly noticed a strange smell. It was faint, and sort of smelled like rust. She had no idea what it was, since she had never before encountered the amount of blood she was about to see. Her first clue was the damage visible from the hole in the wall she had escaped through.

"Xellos, we aren't going to help any of them?" Cerras questioned as she watched different villagers get attacked by the lesser demons. They clearly knew that Leah was around here, and so they took down any human in town. They tore them limb-from-limb, and the people would scream until death, when they'd slowly die down into silence. The silver-haired mazoku shivered at the sight and sound of this, and grabbed gently at part of Xellos's cape. She still hadn't gotten that well at black magic, so there wasn't much she could do; she knew a bit, but she was mostly a cleric. "This isn't right... this is all because they want Leah gone..." It wasn't that hard to find out; Leah had the possibility of becoming Sherra again, and then she'd be back to fighting with the monster race. They wanted to strike her down when she was more defenseless.

Crap. The crackling of fire, and the screams of citizens was already loud and clear in the neko's ears, the silence had been taken away miles away; and now this was all he could hear. What am I supposed to tell her? Her family better be safe... Leviathan's brows furrowed. He was supposed to be her family's protector now-- in keeping them safe, he was keeping Leah's sanity safe; if the girl went insane, her negative emotions would make it easier to track her down. No one wanted that.

Xellos frowned to himself as he continued destroying the demons nearby. Which were basically any that he could see. He was fine with taking them out. It didn't really effect him in any way. Though he didn't understand why Cerras seemed to think that he was going to play the good guy. She still had to learn a bit about the monster race. They didn't save people for the heck of it. One less village didn't effect their plans of destruction and chaos. Other than it meant one less target. But it he let them run rampant, then the chances of them finding Leah were increased. That was his only motivation outside of keeping them away from himself and Cerras.

"If you want to save the humans, you could help out? Or are your swords decoration?" he commented. She was just cowering behind him and clinging to his cloak. These weren't very strong, so she shouldn't have any trouble fighting them. Their only advantage was the amount of them.

-----------------------------------

Leah hadn't noticed any of the things Levi had, until they had reached the wall. The smoke burned her throat, choking her, every time she took a breath. And of course she could hear the screams. Without thinking, she ran ahead of Leviathan and went through the hole in the wall. The same hole the demons had no doubt used.

There was nothing but blood and carnage everywhere. Bodies, or what remained of them, lay thrown about the blood covered ground. She'd never seen so much blood. It was splattered on any surface close enough. Some of the men had been able to pick off a few, their kills skewered to the walls of houses by spears and whatever else they could use. Most of which still had their last human victim in their mouths.

For a while, she couldn't think or move. She'd never seen anything this bad. By dumb luck she snapped out of it when she heard a demon advancing on her, and drew out her sword, blocking its talons with the blade. She swung awkwardly, missing by several inches. Training with Levi had been one thing, but when it came to a real fight, Leah was still a beginner. She wasn't nearly good enough with the sword to actually defend herself. Not against something that actually wanted to get her.

Cerras wasn’t so happy when Xellos pointed it all out to her, was she really cowering that much that it seemed she was afraid? She wasn’t fearing the demons in particular; but what they had done to the town. It was horrible that they would let the destruction go this far—every town should have a high security. Though, she couldn’t say much. Back when she was a human, her town got completely destroyed, all because of her. Perhaps if she had been a bit stronger—? She shook her head to brush the thought away, and she removed her swords from their sheathes, running at her enemies when she saw open spots. She just wanted to prove that it wasn’t all just for show. She spotted a girl unable to fend herself off from a demon not too far away, but before she could get to her, demons blocked her path and surrounded her. ”Get out of my way!” She shouted, ruthlessly slaughtering the demons. They irritated her—no one should ever have to deal with an irritated Cerras.

Leviathan got to Leah in a moments notice, seeing her struggling with keeping her blade up and kicking the demon away from her sword. The demon flew back to hit the wall with the cracking of bones. Leviathan smirked at his accomplishment. He’d hit the demon just in the right spot so that it wouldn’t get back up. Leah wouldn’t be seeing it again.

[[ugh...sorry....slight writer's block... -_-;; ]]

That seemed to have worked out better than he had expected; thanks to a little encouragement, he now only had to do half of the work. There was no reason why he had to do everything. Unfortunately, there were still plenty more demons for him to get rid of, even with Cerras's help.

-----------------------------------

Leah's eyes were wide as the demon she'd been attempting to fight crashed into the wall, and she cringed from the sound of its bones snapping. She had been hiding behind Leviathan, but now, she tentatively took a step backwards. She'd known that he was strong. Even if she wasn't sure just what he was, she knew for sure that he wasn't completely human. As if the cat ears and tail hadn't been clue enough. But to actually see him fight, actually hurt someone; it frightened her, even if it had been an enemy.

Cerras seemed to not even mind that her clothes were covered with blood-- her golden eyes revealed an almost emotionless demeanor; it was like she had completely changed; like she was a different person. "Let's keep going, Xellos." She said calmly, the rest of the demons were further ahead, attacking the villagers, especially a certain girl; the girl she had taken notice of before. Leviathan glanced to Leah, to notice she had stepped back. He rose a brow, before realizing what she was thinking and shaking his head. "Leah? They would've done the same to you as they did to the rest of the villagers.... and... I promised your parents I would protect you." He sighed and glanced off to the side. " I wont just break that promise. You realized it too, didn't you? Your family went missing ... so I at least need to be sure you're safe now, or they wont forgive me." He paused for a moment; his thoughts were scrambled; he didn't like that Leah was now afraid of him. "I can explain the whole thing... I promise... I--"
" You should be thankful he saved your life." Cerras chimed in suddenly, a bright smile on her lips again. It was strangely creepy, considering her clothes were still covered in the demons blood. " You would've been dead meat if it weren't for him! " Leviathan stepped in front of Leah once more, facing Cerras, and Xellos who was heading over. "You're not taking her." He growled angrily. "Yes, we know that~ it's her choice, right?"

Leah made sure not to take her eyes off the demon in front of her. She wasn't backing away now, but that didn't mean her uncertainty had faded any. After all, that hadn't been the Leviathan she'd grown up knowing. He hadn't been capable of doing something like that. At least not in front of her. So realizing that this side even existed was rather frightening to her. But as he promised to explain everything to her, the fear subsided a little, and she nodded her head slowly. She was about to answer, when she suddenly heard a new voice.

A young gray haired girl was standing a short distance from them, smiling at them cheerfully. A smile that greatly contrasted against the crimson blood splattered over her front. It didn't take long for her to decide that this girl was more of a threat to her, and quickly ducked behind Leviathan, who'd already moved in front of her again. There was another person with the bloody girl now, but she hadn't been able to get a good look at him. All that was certain was that neither of them were villagers. They had to be the monsters Levi had told her about. Though why that was something to fear, she couldn't remember.

Leah frowned slightly at the girl's remark. "What's my choice...?" she asked warily, already guessing that she wasn't going to like the answer. "What's she talking about Levi?"

Ah- Back then when we met
It was all awkward
We went the long way, didn't we?
We got there in the end.
