Everyone... Duck and Cover!... THE WORLD IS GOING TO END NEXT YEAR!!!... OR... IS IT REALLY?!?!
Though human history there have been many scares of the world ending, but it has yet to actually happen. Many people fall back onto the argument that "the Maya predicted that the world will end in 2012," but the truth of the matter is, that the Maya believed it to be more the end of an 'age'. Not seeing it so much as an end, but as a new beginning.
I have been hearing theories about 2012 ranging from Armageddon to Divine Transcendence. What do you think about the whole thing? Any questions or insights?

-=Some Maya Information=-
The Maya have 2 Calendars: - Solar Calender (365 Days) -Ritual Calender (260 Days)
Every 52 years these 2 calenders align at the beginning to cycle again. This 52 year cycle brings with it the idea that every 52 years humanity undergoes a change of some sort (also possibly related to life expectancy among the Maya).
Knowledge advancement and technological advancement seem to have ground breaking discoveries every 50ish years that expand the realm of knowledge/technology (along with the life styles of those alive to experience it). This whole '2012 end of the world' idea is the culmination of many many many of these 52 year cycles. So, as the change of some sort is expected every 52 years... the change to be expected in 2012 (if you believe it) should be a very profound change indeed. I believe something positive will happen, but Im not gonna bet my life on it. hehe. Much Love. xox
P.S. I did a research project for an honors history class, "Religion and Architecture of the Maya." I didn't do much detail with 2012, but I will gladly share some of what I learned about the Maya religion when I have a little bit more spare time.

I suppose we will see what happens here in 2012. I am glad you brought this up. I honestly have not given this much thought and I am not worried about the world ending or some big event happening. I am taking this all in stride and am going along for the ride I suppose.
What are some of your personal thoughts on the matter?

I heard this from a friend, but appranetly the sun, which is revolving, is going to cross into a new quadrant of the galaxy next year, some people think that may have something to do with the Aztec Calender ending.

I've also heard about how the secret planet Niberu was going to crash into the earth and the Mesopotamian Gods were going to return since that planet was their starship. -sigh-
Seriously I'm looking forward to 2012 that way when this ends and fails, we can see what next wild end of the world conspiracy comes out next.

I found this explanation about Niberu to be fascinating. I was like wow.

I just realized the Mayan calenders did not have leap years, they came in 1912 so it should be happening 24 days before?
