Quote:
Rely not on your wealth;
say not: “I have the power.”
Rely not on your strength
in following the desires of your heart.
Say not: “Who can prevail against me?”
or, “Who will subdue me for my deeds?”
for God will surely exact the punishment.
Say not: “I have sinned, yet what has befallen me?”
for the Most High bides his time.
Of forgiveness be not overconfident,
adding sin upon sin.
Say not: “Great is his mercy;
my many sins he will forgive.”
For mercy and anger alike are with him;
upon the wicked alights his wrath.
Delay not your conversion to the LORD,
put it not off from day to day.
For suddenly his wrath flames forth;
at the time of vengeance you will be destroyed.
Rely not upon deceitful wrath,
for it will be no help on the day of wrath.

I know not everyone here is Catholic, but I found this on mycatholic.com and thought it would be a good one to contemplate. Much of it is said elsewhere in the Bible in various ways.

Thank you. There are many books in the Bible that Catholics use that are left out in the King James version,not sure why. The Beatitudes is an awesome book. I think I will copy this down. Blessings on you and your loved ones and the guild.

It's only seven books and parts of Daniel and Esther.

I can actually give you just an idea of why they are not in a Protestant Bible, but I have to listen to the CDs on the Dead Sea Scrolls to learn more.

There was a translation of the Old Testament by either 70 or 77 scholars (that's actually what they say, 70 or 77) from Hebrew into Greek. At some point, those 7 books and parts of Daniel and Esther went missing in Hebrew. After a while,the Jews were divided as to whether they even ever existed.

I think around the time of the destruction of the temple, 70 AD (I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it was after Jesus was born), I can't remember what the group of Jews was called (I have to look it all up again), removed those books from their Old Testaments (of course not called that, but the name escapes me) while the Greek Jews kept them.

When the Martin Luther made up his mind about Sola Fide, he also threw out those books based solely on the fact that certain Jewish officials (not sure if they were called scholars on the CDs) didn't think there were Hebrew translations. He also wanted to throw more out including the letter of Saint James and John's Revelation.

In, I think, the 1970's possibly earlier, the Dead Sea Scrolls were found by kids who had no idea how important they were. It was found that at least most of those books of the Catholic OT were found in Hebrew. There were also many other texts including many not included in either Bible! I think some of that was parts of Isaiah.

That's the idea, but I must look up more to get certain things cleared and more info. Dead Sea Scrolls if you want to look it up yourself. My CDs are Understanding the Dead Sea Scrolls by Michael Barber. Not sure if it's in book form, cause the CDs are a lecture.
