Does anyone here wear Lolita-fashion? heart
If you don't or you haven't heard about it, here's a bit more about it. Lolita-fashion is a Japanese fashion statement that grew during the 1980s in Japan after the Visual Kei fashion trend. It is inspired by the elegant fashions of the Victorian times and many many girls wear it today. Livejournal is home to various Lolita communities and there are many Lolita-fashion guilds on Gaia. Despite having the name Lolita, Lolita-fashion has nothing to do with the novel Lolita nor is it meant to be sexy. Lolita-fashion was named Lolita-fashion simply because Lolita is a female name and the creator found it to be elegant and suitable {possibly unaware of the term}.
There are many styles of Lolita fashion and various brands, for starters there is Gothic Lolita:

Gothic Lolita dresses are known to be very mature, very elegant, and are dark colored or have dark themes or motifs {chandeliers, cathedrals, iron gates}. Gothic Lolita, however is very different from the Goth subculture and those two aren't to be mistaken. Common Gothic Lolita brands are Moi Meme Moitie, Atelier Boz, and Black Peace Now.
Sweet Lolita:

Sweet Lolita dresses aim at being cute with bright pastel colors, frills, ruffles, and bows. Themes or motifs in Sweet Lolita are things that have a sweet and child-like essence to them such as fairy-tales, candy, fruit, ribbons, carousels, and cute animals. Common Sweet Lolita brands are Baby the Stars Shine Bright, Angelic Pretty, and Metamorphose Temps De Fille.
Classic Lolita:

Classic Lolita is a bit more toned-down and mature than Sweet Lolita yet still keeps the essence of a young Victorian girl. Classic Lolita draws heavy inspiration from historical time periods, mainly the Victorian era. Elegant colors such as burgundy, dusty rose, and ivory are common as well as motifs such as cameo brooches and floral prints. Common Classic Lolita brands are Mary Magdalene, Victorian Maiden, and Innocent World.
Punk Lolita:

Punk Lolita is a bit hard to pull off. It follows the basic Lolita silhouette {knee-length and bell-shaped skirts} only adding punk elements into it such as tartan, punk accessories, and caps. Common Punk Lolita brands are Putumayo and h.Naoto Frill.
Of course, there are various sub-styles such as Kuro Lolita {an entirely black coordinate}, Shiro Lolita {an entirely white coordinate}, Sailor Lolita {sailor or nautical themed coordinates}, Country Lolita {gingham, flowery straw hats, fruit motifs}, Hime Lolita {princess-y coordinates and Rococo inspired dresses}, and Guro Lolita {bandages, dresses splattered with fake blood}.
Lolita-fashion follows several guidelines of modesty and quality such as the skirt must come at the knee and be made out of good quality materials {satin, raschel lace, and PVC leather qualify as bad quality materials}. Most Lolita skirts follow a certain silhouette of having a bell shape and a petticoat is required.
