The Southern Water Tribe is the southern division of the Water Tribe. Its people are scattered in tiny villages and settlements located across the South Pole. Only one of these villages have been seen during the series.
The Southern Tribe was formerly concentrated in one great city, the site of the current village that is home to Katara and Sokka. Worn down by constant Fire Nation raids, the Southern Tribe is weak and almost defenseless against further raids.
Unlike its northern sister tribe, the people of the Southern Water Tribe are teetering on the edge of extinction, with almost no warriors or defenses left. Only a very few teachers of water bending remain here, and most occupants are old or very young.

Mallory peeks out of her tent, looking around to see the sun had not yet risen. She smiles lightly, putting on her shoes before stepping out of the tent. Today you're going to teach me how to catch a fish, right? Mallory thought, another voice inside of her responding. Of course, I promised, remember? She giggles, closing the tent lightly.
The snores of the rest of the village varied, but most of them were pretty loud. Mallory slowly tip toed out of the village, going to her boat among the docks. Oh, I forgot my gear- Won't need them. Huh? You'll see, now come on. Let's go. She scratches her head, confused at the voice's words then shrugged. You say so... The young woman began to untie the ropes of her boat, trying to move quietly to not wake up the others.
