Ahh, quiet. No sound of train tracks. No squealing passengers. No large, heavy brass objects to drop on his head (which was a major plus). No more thunderstorms. No thunderstorms was nice.
Lincoln sat at a table in the library, boots languorously propped up and crossed on a table. This "Lord of the Flies" book was rather interesting stuff. The place was certainly warmer than the library at home- er his old school, but he was learning to deal with it. At least there was some quiet.

Some freedom from all the noise. Finally. The red-ahired boy stood along the rows of books curiously. It was hard to imagine that two days ago the elf had been in a train wreck. He was once more calm and collected. The previous night he'd been drug along to some sort of event to 'cheer' everyone up by his younger sister, much to his annoaynce. He'd wanted nothing more than some time to clear his head and write to Xeria. Simply to let her know that even with the disaster they where alive, and confirm the new mailing adress if she ever wanted to send them something. It was unlikely with how busy she was, Zeral understood that, he just felt it was good to give her the option.
Zeral took a breath, shaking his head in silence, and to make sure Xeria didn't ask Yurie about the accident. Yurie wouldn't deal with it as well as he had, would she? She couldn't know about it.
His fingers tightened around the bound book in his hands, adorned only with a little sticker. That smiling white rabbit that Yurie had put on it a while back. That alone marked it as the red-haired boy's journal, but it was more than enough. Withint he pages where all the things Zeral wouldn't let anyone know. Not even Yurie was allowed to read it. It was also the reason he could stuff away that accident as if it where nothing. es, anything could be rationalized when written down, even death.
Pushing aside the thoughts of the letter he would need to write, he let his hand trail over a line of names, quickly reading off the titles in his head. All of it was non-fiction, certainly interesting enough. He was looking for something more specific though, something like... that. He pulled out the book, quickly examining the cover. It was about the politics around his new home, eveything he'd need to know to keep from gaining attention. As well it did advertise some notes on the noble families, another interesting bit to look into. In other words, the book would suffice for his current needs.
He turned away from the shelf, now carrying two rather large books toward the area of the library that held the tables and chairs for readers. He'd been here once before two nights ago with his sister. Yes, this was where they had found the pair that night after the wreck. He'd made a mistake telling those people all of the details though. Now that he thought about it, a lot of people wouldn't want to know that sort of thing, they might not handle it calmly. Certainly not the other students? Not that he was particularly attached to any of them, it was a matter of protecting his sister from strife. Death was too foreign a concept to burden her with at her age.
Yes, it was best to keep those details to himself if he could.
He rounded the final bookshelf spotting the first few tables before pausing at the sight of the brown haired boy. Familiar, he was faintly familair. After a moment his memory found the bit of information he knew about the boy as he starred. Lincoln, and he was friends with that Lan. He didn't particularly know either boy, just the obvious notes. That they usually meant trouble of some sort, which was the very reason Zeral had taken the care to avoid them in the past.
His eyes scanned the library for any sign of the feline who was usually the counterpart of this boy, but it seemed Zeral was to be saved from the terrible duo. He'd just be dealing with one. Then again, it seemed he was reading. He might just get away with no problems at all.
Choosing a empty table, the elf put his books down before seating himself and opening the one he'd selected from the shelf. Time to see if the thing was as useful as it claimed to be.
((Blah blah blah blah blah... I talk a lot. >->))

Ah, silence. How calm, how pure, how delicate, how absolutely delectable it was on a crisp day. Silence... silence.... silence..... scuffle.
Lincoln immediately looked up from the book- but his head did not move. The book did not rustle, the bobbing of his foot stayed in proper tempo. Having a military lineage, he knew well enough how to keep to himself- or make it look like such, as need be. He looked between locks of his flippant hair at the offending intruder in his few moments of peace. If they were interesting enough, he'd switch his focus accordingly.
Red hair. Bright red hair. Black outfit otherwise-- withdrawn-looking. Around his age. Political books- ah, possibly a boring kid. Sitting properly, seems distracted. Possibly thinking. Lincoln couldn't help but feel he knew the kid in some way, but couldn't recall more than a few moments in the distant past he'd seen him. Maybe on the train- yeah, he was definitely on the train. Oh good, a classmate! The boy turns, sees him, stops slightly... ooh, he'll be fun. It was too quiet in here, anyway.
Lincoln flipped a page.
The boy instinctively avoided Lincoln's empty table, going to a seperate one. Obviously he either A. didn't want to talk to him or B. just wanted to read, which was what the library was for. Or possibly he just recognized him and was trying to avoid confrontation. Hey, it's happened before.
Lincoln allowed several minutes to pass, waiting for his new friend to get a little comfortable. Nearly, almost... oh there, that's better. Nice and calm in here again. Lincoln snapped the book shut.
"G'morning!"

Or C. all of the above.
Zeral had only begun to relax a bit as he allowed himself to read, utterly content as he only was when he read. When an almost inaudible snap drug him up from the depth of the text. It was almost as if someone had shouted danger at the top of their lungs the way he pulled to attention at the few words, once more exuding the less than friendly aura he usually gave off. He wasn't particularly mean, he just didn't want to deal with them.
And now he had to deal with this person.
He turned partially looking at the other boy with orange flecked eyes while debating ifhe'd need to shut his book, or if this conversation would end soon enough. He pushed the book closed as he finally connected that the noise before the other spoke was the quick closing of the book. If Lincoln had found the need to close his own book, it was only safe to believe this might end up lasting more than a few seconds. There went his chance at freedom for a short time.
It was almost making him miss Mieve. He hadn't particularly enjoyed being there, but at least he knew where to go for a bit of alone time to think, now he was stuck guessing which places would be empty. Guessing wrong obviously.
"Good morning." Zeral's tone was neutral as he placed the book he'd read on the table. "Can I help you with anything?" Pheraps if he acted as if he thought this was business he could escape it. He was beginning to wonder when this parade of people was going to end.
Put on a cramped train with stupids who had too much energy for three days, dealing with the wreck, wandering the town yesterday, his sister wanting to go to that easter event, and now even the library wasn't safe.

"Help me with something? Hmm," Lincoln leaned further back in his chair (if it was possible) and idly scratched his neckline with a possibly canine nail. He seemed to completely ignore all of Zeral's reluctant body language. Either that or it simply egged him on. "Actually, there is!" He smiled casually. "Where would I know you from? You just look so familiar, I'm sure I've talked with you or something in the past. Can't place you, though. Thought maybe you'd know, as you're you." He chuckled good-naturedly. He was curious what sort of reaction he would get from the insipid comment. "M'name's Lincoln! To mention."

It seemed that not only had he managed to find a place with another occupant, but one than wouldn't simply leave him be. Wasn't that just fantastic for him.
Or perhaps this person was just utterly oblivious to the fact Zeral would rather be reading. He couldn't quite tell, either way this wasn't what he'd had in mind when he visited the library. He'd been counting on a pleasant day getting used to the fact he was in a new place. He wasn't all that bothered by that idea, he just didn't know his way around. Which led to problems like asking for directions, or not knowing what areas would have the fewest occupants. He'd finally been figuring this all out around Mieve, memorizing the times to dodge away to a new area if he wanted peace. Now he had a whole new rhythm to figure out. It was a bit of a chore to do around learning all he could about this new town. Then again, the two items did overlap a little.
"We went to school together at Mieve for the last year." Zeral wasn't half as amused by the canine's antics, if anything they where annoying. The boy should have known this, or not cared. Either way it was a waste of his time. "We never talked outside of classroom requirments, I've really only seen you in the halls before." 'And heard of your grand exploits with Lan.' He chimed to himself mentally, not exactly thrilled to be around someone who was known for causing trouble.
"Yes, I know your name. Lincoln Wong. There were a great deal of 'tales' regarding Lan, and your antics at Mieve. From what I had heard I would never expect to see you in a library." He'd figured the pair would be out finding some way to turn the town upside down. This week just just becoming less, and less lucky by the minute.

"...well yes good sir, thanks so much for telling me your name and all, right nice to meet you, too." He nodded, smiling despite the sarcasm. So-o, he was that type of person. He didn't half wonder if they had played a trick or two on him in the past. The haughty ones always are. "I see. So we're in the same grade and... you know me! Ah, I feel loved..." he couldn't decide whether to wince or grin at the claim to fame. "...or maybe not, in that case." Lincoln took this as a chance to look at the covers of the other books Zeral had with him. Hm, what a small span of interests. A realist, at that.
"Oh? Well. Simply because you have a busy list of... extracurriculars doesn't mean you can't enjoy a few good novels." Lincoln held up Lord of the Flies. "Rereading this one. Trying to find what sort of books this place focuses on- weren't big difference between number of fiction books and nonfiction in our last academy, not that our poor budget could afford many at all. We had better taste, though." He set it down again.
"But SPEAKING of stories... you'll have to tell me some of these `tales` sometime." He gave his own tail a wag, not going to resist such a cheesy pun in this unapproving company. He knew better than to swivel his ears while he was at it- there was a thin line between looking corny and annoying. "It's amusing to see what details they got right and which tricks they figured out were us. Not to sound egotistical or such," he assured.

Even the fact he hadn't bothered to givehis name hadn't gotten rid of the boy. He really was stuck with company again it seemed. "My name is Zeral Exel." He replied reluctantly, somehow giving his name to the other boy seemed to seal his fate all the more. He tapped a finger idly against the book before shaking his head. "I simply find it to be in my best interest to know who is in my classes." It was an attempt to ensure the other didn't think he had a 'friend' he was talking to. It was more that Zeral wasn't rude enough to simply walk out to attempt to find peace elsewhere.
Zeral had never had the pleasure of being the blunt of any of the jokes, but he had seen some of the after effects as well as seeing one from the sidelines. It wasn't as if he went out of his way for it, he'd just been passing by and observed the scene. It was likely the fact he wasn't the most known student that he'd escaped their notice for so long. Now Lincoln had his name, he wouldn't be so lucky anymore would he?
He watched as the boy lifted the novel recognizing it almost immediatly. Zeral had more of an interest in facts, but he wasn't against reading a good novel either. It really depended on his moon at the time. "I see, I had no idea. I agree that Greinell's library has a far wider selection than Mieve's did, but many of the titles are the same. Regarding fiction that is." The non-fiction books tended to be different wherever you went. Everyone had their own take on how things should be seen, and purchased titles accordingly.
One eyebrow arched at the dog's next action, before falling again. "I'd rather not." He'd rather not even be in this boy's company. "What I know is from passing in the hall, I didn't take particular notice of it. It simply is that your notorious for your tricks. Anything else is from someone else spreading gossip too loudly."

"Nice to meet you, Zeral." He tipped the book towards him, in lieu of a hat. "Nice to know what to call you now, too." Cue a grin. "Oh, so that's all? Good! You know me through proper planning instead of infamy. That gets rid of the possibility of ill will between us- a relief, I admit." He sighed slightly, trailing a finger along the cover. "Being in a new town and all, it's always good to have some people you can identify with... and, much as a friend he is I'll be first to admit Lan makes mroe enemies than friends. But he's fun that way!" Lincoln chuckled lightly. "There's no need to guard yourself against labelling it as gossip. If there was the possibility, it was doomed to be so the moment you first leaned in to listen to it. Besides, people need to be tolerant...on both sides." His tone was vaguely ominous, but physically he seemed as relaxed as ever.
Oh, good! He recognized the novel. At least he reads classics. There was hope for a personality yet. "History is fine and all, but I tend to find them a little boring. Strategy, I have no problem reading about. Dates, however, I could care less. Then again, I've never met anyone avid enough a reader to suggest any worth the time."
