As you enter the library, the librarian sits behind the counter to your right. On your immediate left is a large table, with about 20 seats, for quiet study. Behind and past that on the left, there are rows and rows of high shelves, so high that there are rolling ladders attached to them, so you can get books from the two thirds of the shelves. Occasionally, there are desks or small armchairs, scattered amongst the shelves.
A large sign hangs above the desk - "Please be respectful of other library users; keep the noise down!"
Another, smaller, sign is pinned below the librarian's name plaque - "If you have any enquiries, just ask. I have an encyclopaedic knowledge of this library."

Miss Carter sat behind her desk, reading a book. The Silmarillion, to be precise. She'd read it before, of course - she'd read most books in this library - but it was one of her favourites, especially because she could read it before she got bored, unlike a lot of people.
She was bent over the desk so much that a few tendrils of long dark hair, which had escaped her elegant bun, were touching the page. Sighing, she tucked them behind her ears.
She had on a knee-lenth black pencil skirt, a blouse - buttoned right up, thank you very much - and a black cardigan with just a hint of red embroidery at the collar. With her half-moon-framed glasses on, she looked a lot older than she really was, which was only 23.
