Okay, so a new studio has recently opened here, and I've browsed over the artists' work there via their facebook page. From what I can see, there is some very nice work, but some not so good.
One artist has my attention in perticular, but my only issue is, I have a very precise image in my head about what I want done. I'm going to be stuck with the work for the rest of my life, and as a painting student/perfectionist I don't want anything less than perfect.
However with this I've got a bit of an issue - is there really such a thing as too picky?
I watch programs like Miami and LA Ink, and think 'I want something as perfect as that'. I live in Scotland though, so there's nowhere near the amount of tattoo artists or talent that I seem to notice there being in America or elsewhere. I have hunted in numerous places in Aberdeen and Glasgow mainly, but my biggest issue is that I see a few not-so-great tattoos in their gallery and it makes me feel like that's the quality of tattoo I could end up with, which I certainly don't want.
So I guess the main question is; am I indeed being too picky, or is there such a thing? Should I just take the bull by the horns and grit my teeth, or am I right in being so tentative about where I go?
The only trouble is, I've known since I was 16 what exactly I want as a tattoo and that hasn't changed; yet when I got old enough to get my first tattoo I've just held off and off because I've not found that perfect tattoo artist. I'm worried that even though I really do want a tattoo and know what I want, that I'll just never take that step to getting it because I don'ttrust the artists' abilities.
Has anyone else here felt this way, or has it just not bothered you as much? What are your thoughts?

I don't think you're being too picky.
It's a tattoo, it's going to stay on your body forever, you're going to see it everyday (or not).
It has to be something you like and with the type of art that you like.
That's my opinion at least.
Try to look for more artists.
When it comes to this I think it's best for you to be 100% sure that that's what you want.

It's a tattoo, it's going to stay on your body forever, you're going to see it everyday (or not).
It has to be something you like and with the type of art that you like.
That's my opinion at least.

When it comes to this I think it's best for you to be 100% sure that that's what you want. I completely agree.

There's no such thing as being too picky with body mods. You can either be as picky as you please, making sure every last tiny detail is absolutely how you want it, or you can just settle with something and end up hating it.
