"NO!" Acacia [ah KAY see uh] screamed, her cheeks streaked with tears and raw stretches of skin over her arms. Her deep green eyes were squeezed tightly shut as she struggled against the one who grabbed her and pinned her down. She knew it was pointless to fight him as the darkness of night cloaked them like an impenetrable wall. She was alone, so alone except for the greater monster who grasped at her as she tried to fight back. She was so small compared to him as to most others - barely reaching over five foot. Her hair was gold and reaching past her breast in length. It usually fell gently around her face in waves but now it was a mess as it flared around her face in her desperation. He had by now hiked up the skirts of her gown but one well-placed kick caused the man to stumble back with a cry and grasp his bleeding nose.

Stumbling out of his grip, she ran for the door, knowing that outside would be the welcoming embrace of the vicious corelings. She didn't care anymore. They were more merciful than that b*****d who desperately tried to steal her flower before they were wedded. She didn't want to even look at his face anymore. Her parents had wanted her to marry him so much she would have no way out of it except the night.

"ACACIA!!" he screamed at her as she threw the door open and ran passed the ancient wards. She ignored him as her feet ran through the mud created by the pouring rain. Her tears mixed with it as he screamed after her, damning her to the core and her certain death. And yet, she continued on, only luck keeping corelings from her current path. And yet, that didn't last long. The scent of her presence drew the corelings to her. They were covered in thick armor nothing could ever pierce... except the lost wards if they even existed. To be attacked was to die. There was nothing to stop it.

Thus, the first to appear stalked silent before giving their shrill cries and jumping upon her. The first were the flame demons whose flame was never touched by water. Their claws sank into her back and she screamed in pain, her back arching. However, she pried it off, fleshing being ripped by her back. Whimpering, she continued on as fast as she could with blood dripping down her wounded back. More and more were drawn to her, tearing at her with their claws and the flame demons spitting fire in her direction. Only once did it hit it's target.

Oh, Creator! she groaned, her vision blurring slightly as she collapsed to the mud. They cried triumphantly and sprang to tear her apart in their frenzy to feed but suddenly they fell silent and back away. She didn't move but her breathing was coming in shallow, uneven breaths. Her eyes opened to see the massive rock demon that towered above the others. It's glowing eyes stared down at her before opening it's maw to reveal rows of sharp teeth. She knew it was over already... so soon yet she had gotten so far. Closing her eyes and going lip, she prayer to the Creator that the corelings didn't truly eat your soul. She had no fight left - she had none when she started out. She knew running into the night would be her death as soon as she went out. But she didn't want to remain there... a prize for a disgusting man.

((just in case... you can create anything you want about the corelings. I'm making ut up as I go along. All I have is that the sun kills them, their hide is impenetrable, and wards either stop or kill them - nothing else. This world too... I have no idea so far... ;;>>))

((Alrighty ^^ ))
Shonem (Shone-em) looked up at the cloudy sky and the rain poured down onto his face. His dark eyes closed for a moment as he felt the scars that he had been marked by burn. It happened every time the corelings were close by. Unlike the rest of humanity, he wasn't afraid of the night, he embraced it. He could find those creatures and kill them for they roamed the streets and forests thinking that nothing could harm them. Those disgusting beasts with spiked spines and clawed fingers. They weren't covered in muscle (there was the exception of the rock demons though) like some thought, their sickly skin was tight over their bones and they could move to the other side of the room in a blink of an eye. Of course they had armor.. but that never helped them when he was came around.

Hearing their shrill cries, he knew where he could find them now. A smirk tugged at his lips and he made his way over there, running through the thick bush that covered the ground in these parts of the land. They were so confident in their ability to kill humans that they rarely attacked with accuracy unless they were hungry. They killed for amusement and entertainment but so did he.

Running into the scene, he didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the body that was lying the mud but rather kept his eyes trained on the bigger demon. The scars on his body were burning even more but he knew it would die down once he had satisfied his hunger for blood. A rock demon.. He grinned. It had been a while since he had run into one of those, it would be interesting to see how long this one stayed alive. "Come on." he whispered. His voice was deep and rough just like his appearance. He was covered in muscle. The scars that he had weren't ones that he had received form battles. Shonem had been born with them. His mother said that they meant something but he never understood it. They made strange symbols across his skin as well. His hair was a brown color just like this eyes, except his eyes were even darker and every so often they would change to a different shade of the same color.

His train of thought broke as the demon snapped at him but he then moved forward. Some of the fire demons had tried to come close as well. One was already on the ground. Their bodies never stayed there, instead they disappeared as soon as the first rays of sunlight appeared in the morning. The fire demons went down rather quickly after that, Shonem was saving the best one for last so he could enjoy it without any distractions. Dispite the fact that he didn't care for the body that was lying the mud, he didn't let the others come close to it either.

Returning his attention to the giant, he smirked and the two went at it. The rock demon couldn't harm him though, none of the corelings could. The moment that the beast ripped the clothing off his back, the scars on his chest burned even more and the beast fell to the ground. It was rare the the demons ever touched him and this one somehow managed to do it. Sighing with content, he picked up the ripped up pieces of cloth and stuffed them into his bag. No scars.. no nothing as usual. His eyes darted over the body.. which he know reached was a woman who happened to still be alive. Frowning, he walked over to her and crouched down, not to far from her face, tilting his head to examine her. The flesh on her back was ripped up.. she was fragile like the rest of the human race except for him.

With the rain still beating down on him, he picked up the girl, not paying attention to anything that she tried to do and carried into the cave that wasn't too far off. The fire demons had probably stayed there when they had been alive. Not bothering to get any light, he used the pieces of his shirt to wrap the wounds of the girl, still staying silent.

Acacia stirred slightly without realizing why she had. Everything was quiet, soft and... alive? Her eyes fluttered open in surprise to find herself lying on cold ground that she absently noted as rock. Her body felt sore and raw but she wasn't cold. She felt warmth against the side of her body. To escape into the night is certain death. How could this be the after life if she hurt?

With a groan, she sat up slowly with her eyes blinking to get reason into them. For a moment she only saw a glow in the darkness then suddenly it sharpened to reveal a fire. That sort of fire was created by human hands, not by corelings or by accident. Not only that, she found her wounds bound and treated. She didn't hurt as much but the prospect of someone touching her while she slept...

She blushed and stood slowly before looking around. Finally, her eyes locked on a figure on the opposite side of the cave. She gave a cry of surprise and fright, stumbling backwards and landing with a hard thud on her bottom. "W-Who...?" she gasped, her heart pounding heavily in her chest. She tried to scramble away from the strange figure but halted, realizing the place had to be warded. It was dark but there were no corelings. If she slipped out of the circle, it would be her certain death. But, why wasn't she dead now?

"What are you?" she said in a soft voice, trying very hard not to sound or look afraid. She knew she was failing. Terribly.

The girl had stayed silent for quiet a while as he cleaned off the blood that got on his fingers. He wouldn't have worried about it except that he remembered a time when he had gotten an infected wound. It hadn't been the most pleasant experience and he didn't want it to happen again. Sighing, he leaned back against the rock wall, his eyes focused on the flames for the moment. The adrenaline had died down and he was calm for the most part. Even when he was fighting he was always in control of his actions. Instincts were always good except they always told him to flee instead of fight.

Seeing the girl sit up, he realized that she was surprised that she was alive. His eyes focused on the entrance of the cave once more as she came to her sense, a small shriek. Perhaps that would attract more of those bloody little demons. He smirked at the thought. He wouldn't mind fighting again, after all he slept through the day. As she moved away, he shook his head. She was stupid. If she left the cave she would be killed and he had wasted quite a bit of time on her bandages to just let her die in such an ignorant manner.

"A living creature.. or perhaps a monster. I'm never sure these days." his voice was deep and his hooded eyes moved to look at her for a brief moment. "Go any futher and you'll be torn apart piece by piece by the beasts that I happened to drag you from." he added before he slowly went up to the fire, his lightly tanned skin revealed all the scars that he had that created swirls though some of them were just slashes. Rolling his shoulders back, he crouched down, the fire was in between them now and he was looking at her through it.

Acacia didn't move as he spoke but gave him an incredulous look as he told her not to leave. She had stopped, hadn't she? She bit back the smart retort and instead remained still as he moved. That air of mystery hovered about him and laced his deep, rich voice. His body was covered and face hidden by a cloak. But, as he moved before the fire, his face was illuminated by the dancing flames.

Awe crossed over her face as she saw the familiar twisting design of wards. They were different from what she draw herself but they were unmistakable in what they were. Most she couldn't recognize. Though she knew all that man knew about wards in this era, that was so very few. So many had been lost to antiquity but here, a strange man wore them over his body. She almost wanted to go to him and learn the secrets of his body. But, she held herself back for many reasons. The largest being how that very thought sounded so ludicrous.

Finally, she lowered her arms and moved slowly towards the strange figure on the other side of the fire. She knelt down beside him and reached out warily to touch the tips of her soft fingers against his scarred cheek. She wasn't sure if he would retaliate but it was only a second the thought processed as her fingers touched his cheek. "You are a man..." Her voice sounded almost incredulous but filled with a story of discovery. However, it only lay hidden in her whispered voice.

He could see the way her expression changed as his face became visible due to the dancing flames that were meant to give off warm. Light was not something that he enjoyed, warm on the other hand was welcomed at times. Not that he got a whole lot of it in the first place unless it was warm blood running over his own hands after he had slit open his meal. Hey, he had to get food somehow.

His eyes followed her every movement. What was she doing? Couldn't she just be happy and go back to sleep until the sun rose? By that time he would be long gone and she could go back to where she came from. It didn't make sense why she was out at night in the first place. He found dead bodies throughout the forest, mauled by the demons. He got the corelings in the end when they came out to play.

The cold eyes returned to the fire when she knelt down beside him. She hadn't cringed at his scars when they had become visible. As she reached out, his hand automatically came up and tightened around her wrist as her, surprisingly, soft finger tips touched his rugged skin. Moving her hand away as his eyes stayed focus on the fire, he thought about breaking her hand for a moment but then decided against it. Letting it go once he had lowered it, he then got up. Hopefully he had gotten across that message that he didn't want to be touched by her, or by anyone else. When she said that he was a man, he rolled his eyes. That's what most thought until they saw what he was capable of.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 26, 2011 8:51 pm

Acacia jerked slightly in surprise as his hand moved faster than she could react. It wrapped tightly around her slender wrist like a vise impossible to break. The moment he held it without looking at her made it seem as if he were debating something but he released her. Somehow, that peeved her more than it frightened her.

It was when he rolled his eyes that she caught her breath and her emerald eyes hardened angrily. "Now, really!" she huffed slightly, standing to place her hands on her hips. She glowered down at the offending man who seemed totally intent on ignoring her. "Why did you save me? Why did you bother to save this pathetic life when you want nothing to do with me?" It was probably very childish but she didn't care. He made her angry. A man of mystery she couldn't understand who probably held secrets more than any other man could. He had saved her from the corelings. Their armor was supposed to be impenetrable... impossible to kill.

An old memory came to mind of a story from long ago. A man whose name was lost to legend but his deeds not. His skin marked with wards and his hand stronger than any man. Wisest of men who lead them to battle against the corelings. The Deliverer. The one spoken to come again. She looked at him more closely. Could it truly be him? The one the legends spoke of. "You... a cold b*****d the Deliverer?" The Deliverer was said to be a deity... to call him a mere human was considered blasphemous.

When she huffed, he simply glanced at her, his eyes glowing slightly in the dark. As she continued to ask questions he couldn't help but sigh. She was definitely annoying. He was starting to ask himself why he had saved her in the first place but then again, he already knew the answer. Did she deserve an answer at the moment? Nope, he didn't think so.

Hearing her call him the Deliverer, he started to laugh. The cold noise echoed throughout the cave before he finally stopped, grinning wickedly. She thought that he was the Deliverer.. wonderful. He didn't care about others, he didn't care about her for crying out loud, she just happened to be in his path of destruction. Shaking his head, he closed his eyes.

"Where do you live?" he asked her. He wouldn't talk more than he had to. He was getting tired of her and taking her home right now seemed like a good idea, at least he would be able to hunt for the rest of the night and get some exercise, as well as find some food. She hadn't even thanked him.. to be honest he hadn't expected it from her either but the people that lived in the villages thought that they were civilized.

Acacia winced slightly as he began to laugh, slipping into the shadows slightly and looking away. Only after his question, did she lift her head with sorrow in her eyes. "I have none... sir." She thought over what she should do. She wasn't so foolish as to not know he wanted to be alone or that she was annoying him. In fact, how she was acting now was nothing like her at all. She couldn't understand what was pushing her to act like this. Her hand briefly touched her abdomen. Probably this whole night in itself.

"I'm sorry," she finally said softly as she slid down to her knees and sitting on her legs. "My life is hardly worth it. I never expected anyone to care enough to save my life. One who does such a thing cannot be so cold or rotten to the core to do such a thing." She looked at his face, captivated by it though his eyes were closed. She did not know what drove her to him.

"I have no where to go. I would rather die than return to the man who claimed me as his. My life is in your hands... and the corelings. Will you give me to the creatures of the night?" She was uncertain of his thoughts. She was not trying to convince him to let her stay with him. Instead, she knew how much he would prefer to let her go. Thus, she spoke no more. eyes focused on the flames and the cries of the corelings outside.

Shonem leaned against the back wall, his ears hearing the corelings footsteps even before they started to call out, wanting their prey but they wouldn't come near him while he was here.. and they weren't exactly a fan of man-made fire either. Hearing her apologize, he opened one of his eyes and looked at her. What was causing all these mood swings of hers?

He didn't care, why did she think he cared? Frowning he turned his head away from her, closing his eyes. "That's a stupid thing to do." giving her life to a man that she barely knew anything about. He would let her stay until the morning's light.. then he would leave her. Some food and water should be enough for her for a couple of days until she found a new place to live.. if she survived the night. Ugh. Why did she give her life to him?

"Stay here." he said suddenly as he walked past the fire and to the entrance of the cave, pulling off his cloak as well, a sick smile on his face. He would get rid of those corelings and he would do it with pleasure. "Come here my sweet little darlings." he murmured, his eyes held a murderous glint to them as one of them attacked him but he threw it to the ground, punching his hand through it's rib cage. The smaller ones had simply disappeared but the bigger ones he could actually fight.

Because I have nothing else! she wanted to growl at him but refrained. Instead, she watched his face intently, her eyes moving over his body as he ignored her then stood abruptly. She parted her lips to stop him but decided against it, watching with horror to see his actions just outside the cave. And yet, she could not be sickened by it. It was so cruel and disgusting but it had a strange... beauty to it. He had strength greater than any human being and probably knowledge more as well. She was astounded by such a man she couldn't understand.

But, she suddenly remembered the warding kit she always had in her dress. She drew it out to find it was mostly broken and crushed except for a few pieces. As the battle raged on outside, she drew from memory the ward she could remember clearly upon his jaw. She looked at the alien symbol but soon it began to mold before her eyes, realization dawning on her. She was a warder of great skill compared to the others but nothing to rival his.

Thus, she began to draw two other symbols, angled differently then she usually did. The one was a combination of the two. Creating a whole knew ward. Was it defense or offense? She looked with amazement at the revelation. Such things had not been seen in eons and now one man wore them upon his body?

Her eyes turned to him and she stood, going over to the entrance but not stepping out of the protective circle. There was so much she could learn from him. Ways to protect the humans who cowered behind crumbling wards and those who fought in vain to kill their adversaries. Those were so few and their numbers always decreasing. What... was he? She squeezed the hand covered in charcoal shut. Upon her palm rested the remains of the ward she had drawn.

Of course she didn't listen to him, he sensed her come closer. Sighing as the coreling beneath him disappeared, he then turned to the next one that had been trying to get onto his back. The larger ones took up to a minute to disappear but while they were there he had his fun with them.. tearing them to shreds, limb from limb. It was rather entertaining and it let him get his revenge as well.

Pulling away from the last one, he turned his head towards her, noticing her stare at him as if he was some kind of prized pig that was going up for sale, or an exotic animal. His jaw became tight and the sun was starting to rise. It was time to take her away. Wiping the blood away with the shirt that was torn apart from the battle with the rock demon, he then walked over to her and simply threw her over his shoulder before she had time to say anything or protest.

Securing his arm around the back of her knees to make sure she wasn't able to kick him, he didn't care if she attacked his back but he didn't want her feet hitting anything important. Going back to the place where he had first seen her, he then followed the barely visible footprints, going back the way she had come here. Her life was in his hands.. yeah, nope. He wasn't going to be responsible for her, he didn't care what happened to her, she just happened to be on his path of destruction and he had moved her out of it. Why? Probably because the corelings had been wanting to get to her and he loved pissing them off.

((you can control the soldiers all you want because of Shonem))

Acacia blinked and gaped at him slightly when she realized she had spaced out and he was looking at her with an expression that made her feel very uncomfortable. As he began to walk towards her, dressed in blood of the dark creatures and clothing torn, she felt a jolt of fear through her. He wasn't walking into the cave per say, but at her.

She gave a slight cry as he grabbed her with his strong hands so she couldn't fight him. Not only that, he threw her over his shoulder like some child or sack of flour. Her cheeks flamed with color and soon her whole face turned read. Having his arms in such a position around her and just being in that position was positively ludicrous. Totally unspeakable...!

"Put me down!" she yelled at him, trying to get free of his grip but he seemed unperturbed by her feeble attempts. He was so strong and she was lacking in physical strength. Not only that, she knew where he was headed. "Please, please!" she begged him, true terror setting in. "Don't make me go back!" She knew what would happen if she was brought back and that was the only thing she truly feared in life. Only a few things terrified her or scared her at all. That man... he was one of them.

But, once the reached the village, she struggled all the more, pounding on his back though she knew it would do him no harm. "Please!" she sobbed, her attempts growing weak. "Y-You can't give me back to him...!" However, people were already coming out from the morning and saw them. One of them was her accursed fiancée, his eyes alighting on them before rage filled his face.

"That's him!" he screamed, pointing his finger at the pair as the retreating armed militia that occupied the town stopped to look at the man then at Acacia and Shonem.

He had seen the fear in her eyes when he had walked straight at her. She was afraid of him just like many other humans were once they saw what he was capable of. He was a monster in her eyes whether she accepted it or not. When she started to yell, he simply rolled his eyes. Really? Did she really think that he was going to set her down if she yelled at him? He wasn't going to put her down either way but she seriously wasn't making it any better.

The girl's voice gave off more fear, he could feel it rushing through her as well. She didn't want to go back. Why? He didn't know and didn't care. She had pushed him a little bit too far and he certainly didn't plan on taking care of her. Leaving her in the forest wasn't an option either. She would get lost trying to follow him and then the corelings would rip her to pieces. He had saved her and now she was staying alive.

Feeling her fists pound into his back slightly harder as the village came into his view, he blinked when she said him. Her father? Her husband? She looked too younger to have any kids and her features weren't round, so she couldn't be pregnant. Her fiancee then. His eyes caught the look of one man. Shonem couldn't help but feel a bit of rage come up in his cold eyes as well. He was slightly protective her the girl since he had saved her from a horrible death.

Raising one eyebrow when he heard the man scream, he was obviously accusing him of stealing his bride. Giving the soldiers a bored look, he stood there for a moment before setting Acacia up on a high barrel so that she wouldn't get hurt but she wouldn't be in his way either. The men came, surrounding him in a half circle up against the wall. "You can come with us peacefully and settle this there." they glanced at the women that was up on the barrel before looking back at the hooded figure.

"I don't have anything to settle with you. Now if you let me go on my way, I won't be tempted to harm you." the men laughed at his words and then attacked him. In a second one of them was thrown up onto the roof of a near by house. A spear managed to cut his shoulder. Grabbing it, he threw it and the owner onto the other side of the street. More men came but they kept their distance, spears all pointed at him. Looking at them with hard eyes, he sighed.

Why couldn't they just leave him in peace? Glancing up at Acacia, he then reached up to take her down but one of the men stabbed his arm with the spear. Pulling it out of his arm, he then pulled the spear from the man's hands and broke it in two. "I'll go with you but after that you filthy animals better leave me along." they were like annoying mosquitoes. Setting Acacia down on the ground, he then spoke once more. "You." he pointed at one of the soldiers. "Make sure she gets home safely and stays safe or I'll hunt you down and rip out your heart." the man nodded his head quickly and took Acacia from him as he then left with the others.
