Nathaniel toyed with the small slip of paper that was slid into his hand a few hours previous.
Odd. It was the right time, Aerin had gotten off about an hour ago, and this was certainly the right address.
Well, right if Nathaniel wasn't misreading the childish ink scrawl on paper. He held it at arm's length and scrutinized it carefully, a sliver of pink tongue jutted from between pale lips in the process.
"Looks right enough to me," he says to himself. He reached his other hand up to knock on the pale seagreen door again, when it sprung open and a flustered looking mouse-child bounded out.
"Ohmigosh I'm so sorry, I was in the shower-and then I realized I left the stove on, but that's okay now nothing is burnt-!"
Nathaniel put a finger to Aerin's lips gently. When the boy stopped, he cupped his chin and nudged it upwards to face him. "It's okay! I've not been waiting very long, you just had me confused, I thought I was at the wrong complex!" he smiled, they came so easy to Nate yet they were still disarming.
Aerin was blushing profusely (maybe he is easily flushed? Nate wonders in his mind), and it took him a few moments to regain his bearings. "Uhm...No, this is the right one! The next one over is all girls. Almost, anyway." He rubbed the back of his head and grinned sheepishly.
Nathaniel laughed, taking a step back. "Come on! We don't have all day, the flower shop closes soon!"
"The...flower shop?" Aerin's ear flicked inquisitively.
"Yup!" Nate tugged on Aerin's arm, "Hurry! We only have an hour!"
As Nate broke out into a swift run down the complex's stairs, Aerin stumbled and tried valiantly to keep up...But when Nate came to a sudden stop, Aerin lost his balance and toppled over, taking Nathaniel down with him.
Warm blue eyes twinkled up at deep black ones. "Hmm." Nathaniel's lips quirked, being totally amused at Aerin's struggle to get up (he was tangled in the hanging suspenders of his pants) and half finished words.
"Omhigosh I'm so clumsy, I'm sorry!"
Nate playfully rolled his eyes and sprung up, dragging Aerin to his feet as well. Yet the poor mouse boy was still off balance, so he fell directly into Nate's arms.
"Ieeeee! Nate, Nate I'm so sorry I'm horrible-!"
Nate laughed. "Bit much for a first 'date' isn't it?" he teased, which forced Aerin's already flushed cheeks even darker.
He shook his head and scooped the smaller into his arms, much to the other's chagrin. Ignoring protests, he clutched tighter and with a leap only a kangaroo rat could manage, started his trek towards the flower shop.
