My absolute all time favorite anime scene is the conversation between Allen and Van on the Crusade in Vision of Escaflowne episode 23 Storm Premonition...
Allen: Van, so this is where you went.
Van: Allen...
Allen: About Hitomi...
Van: She means nothing to me.
Allen: Yesterday... I asked her to marry me.
Van is shocked at what Allen just said
Allen: She is to give me an answer when I return. I don't understand why but my heart's at ease when I'm with her.
Van: I want you to promise... that you will protect her.
Allen: I promise I won't let anyone take her even if it costs me my life.
