Racing and Training!

Here is the low-down on the racing hoe-down! Pay attention now, it gets a little bit complicated.

Breeding and racing are not required by any means, so if you have no interest in them, feel free to skip this but it is highly encouraged.
This system has been run past gaia mods and approved as a legitimate enterprise. With a little bit of math skills you can easilly derive who has won a race all on your own if you choose... As such there is pretty much no risk of error.
(If you do choose to try to work it out on your own, MAKE SURE your math is right. Many calculators screw up, and we use an excel formula in most cases. We don't take complaints of cheating lightly as it can get accounts tied up in bans for months. You should take it seriously too because false reports can get your own account banned.)
Why is this being legit and srrs bsns such a big deal? You can not only win fabulous prizes such as gold, shop discounts, greens, etc. by racing your own bird but you may also BET on the races even if you're not in them! This can be a fun way to take part in the shop and make a little bit of dough if you don't have a chocobo or if you're not entered in a race. As such we have made it so that anyone with some first-year algebra can figure out the winner. This keeps both the shop safe for having the racing based around hard numbers, and the players safe since at any time anyone can check the race results!

The part that is long, complicated, and has tiny font.

Each chocobo has four stats that determine it's racing ability. Intelect, Compatibility, Speed and Stamina. Each chocobo also has their starting/minimum of each of those stats, and their maximum which is hidden until it has been reached by the owner. The min/max of each chocobo effects breeding genetics as explained in the breeding guide. These numbers are pre-determined and kept track of in a staff-only thread. You can check out your own bird's *current* racing statistics over at the Owners List.
Statistics are boosted from their minimum by feeding "greens". There are many types of greens each that boosts different stats. Some are avalible constantly, some can only be won through events and some have a limited supply but re-stock.
Greens have a maximum feed limit per week and month and can be won through thread events, roleplay, races, and bought with gold.
To get info on the different types of greens, feed limits, and to find out how much they cost or to buy them, head on over to Choco Billys Shop and check out the posts within. On average a normal chocobo takes three months to boost stats to full and can be done anywhere from free through roleplay and shop events and 50,000G if you just buy the greens straight from the shop. A mixture of both is common.

There are also several types of "legendary" chocobos that get a boost over certain terrain, these being;
Green (Mountains)
Blue (Rivers)
Black (Mountains and Rivers)
Gold (Mountains, Rivers and oceans)
White (Boost on randomization factors)

These can only be obtained through very special events, bribes, very expensive customs or - the most encouraged way - breeding.
Before the race, head on over to the Racing Thread and sign up. The racing itself consists of two parts. The first is the "race". This is where a pre-determined track is divided into several parts and the actual mini-game happens. The track is shown when registration begins so that people with different bird types can decide if they wish to race or not. Keep in mind that having an optimal chocobo for the terrain types does not make or break a race.
Birds without the related legend type get a time penalty of 10 added to thier final result for that section.
Racers have until an hour before the race to register. Races consist of five and ten track segments and have between five and ten racers. At the time of the race start, racers must be there to post or be disqulified (much like not showing up for a real race). A roll-call will be made for registered racers ten minutes before the race start.
For each part of the track, each racer generates a random number (NOT a dice roll!) 1-100 to create a number based on it's intelect (how it handles curves/terrain) and compatibility (whether or not it's running it's hardest for you) stats. That's two numbers per segment, making the average racer generating 10 numbers per race. Each player has five minutes to generate BOTH numbers or 50 points are added to each roll. If they don't post for 10 minues they are defaulted to last place or disqualified.

The second part is the part that staff does where they take the randomly generated numbers, subtract the intelect/compatibility numbers from them, take the speed/stamina stats, plug them all into a math formula, add terrain boots/hinderances for the track and create a number that is how long each chocobo takes to get around the track. Whichever number comes out the lowest wins. This gives opportunity for player participation, a semi-random/fair outcome, but also swaying the odds with training and feeding greens.

The math formula, for those who wish to check thier own results is as follows;

Winners of first and second place recieve prizes!

Classes and Betting
Sometimes a Chocobo is just so much better then another chocobo that it's obvious that they would always win every race. When this happens, they move up in rank. This can happen from too many wins or just reaching a stat limit. There are five ranks.

X Class - Any chocobo that has never raced.
C Class - Any chocobo with a speed stat of <85 and a stamina stat of <450. Also any chocobo with <75 Intelect and Compatibility
B Class - Any chocobo with a speed stat of <105 and a stamina stat of <750. Also any chocobo that has won five or more races in C class.
A Class - Any chocobo with a speed stat of <150 and a stamina stat of <999. Also any chocobo that has won seven or more races in B class.
S Class - Any chocobo with a speed stat of <225 and a stamina stat of <1250. Also any chocobo that has won twenty or more races in A class.

X Class is special. To advance from X Class you must simply feed at least one green to your chocobo and then enter it in a race. You must win at a set number of races in each CLASS to move up a racing class should you choose to advance, or you must reach a certain stat limit. The better the class, the bigger the competition and prizes!

Betting!
You can also bet on races if racing isn't your thing. There are two types of bets:
Reverse Forcast
Pick two chocobos to win the race in any order, first or second. Meaning you can pick the "winners" without saying "X chocobo will come in X place".
Pros; Get to pick two that are the best and order doesn't matter. Cons; Must get two chocobos correct instead of just one.
Straight Bet Pick the winner of the race. Simple as that.
Pros: Only have to pick one winning chocobo. Cons: No first/second advantage.

Payouts are done based on a percentage of profits system and the house takes a cut as well, always approximately 1/3rd of the profits. An example would be; Person A places 1K bet on a chocobo and person B places a 500G bet on the same chocobo. Three people also place 1K bets on different chocobos. The chocobo person A&B bet on wins. House returns the original bet (1K to person A 500G to person B) leaving a 3K "profit". House takes it's cut (1/3rd being 1K) leaving 2K to split between the winners. Person A placed 2/3rds of the bet giving them about 2/3rds the pot. So 1350G. Person B gets about 1/3 the pot for betting 1/3rd the pot so 650G.
Rounding is done to the nearest 50 mark, generally at staff discretion for the sake of ease in payouts. If you're absolutely insistant on that extra <49G, we'll gladly give it to you if you ask but in general it's more work than it's worth. XD

There are also bet increments for each class as the minimum amount you can bet, and the amount you have to increase your bet each time you wish to do so.
C: 100G
B: 250G
A: 500G
S: 1000G

This is to keep things simple math-wise for me. Please don't try and break my brain by betting 1237G because it is not allowed. DX
