Breeding!

Ah, life. A miracle to be sure, but like all child rearing it comes with restrictions. So let's just establish this really fast.

Breeding is the best way to get a legendary chocobo. It's also the ONLY way to get the shiney "egg" stage. And breeding requires, you guessed it, racing.
Chocobos breed after eating a nut. Why? Because they do! Something about the nuts inducing hormones. They are also shy, though. So a captive chocobo doesn't like breeding unless it likes it's surroundings and trusts its people, savvy? This is where the racing comes in.

A chocobo won't have a fertile breeding unless it's OR it's partner's racing class is at least B OR you have a special nut.

A chocobos fertility and chances of producing legendary offspring goes up with it's racing class.
Siblings or partial siblings can't breed. If they share a parent they're un-breedable. Same with parents and children. If it's a child or offspring of it's offspring they can't breed.
A chocobo with a high racing class will have stronger color genetics then one with a low racing class.
A chocobo produces one egg for class X, between one and three eggs for class C and B, between two and four if the racing class is A and between three and five if the racing class is S.
The total number of eggs is the average of the two chocobos classes highest number rounded down and the minimum is the lowest involved. (Example, a breeding between X-1 and S-4 would produce between one and two eggs.)
If one Legendary egg is produced, it subtracts one from the randomized egg count and no other eggs will be legendary.
Why? Because it takes a lot more work for a mom to make a legendary chocobo!
You may not sell your babies or trade them! If you do not want one, you must return it to the store to be presented for free in a re-homing event of some sort. You may hold your own free event in the thread to give an egg away but PM a staff member first to confirm the event.

There are also three BASIC types of nuts. Each nut produces a different result but does not alter the number of eggs, or non-legendary genetics.

Luciel Nut; 25K
For every normal breeding - especially farm chocobos. Never a legendary.
Carob Nut; 50K
For chocobos with genetic edits or rediculous patterns. Rarely produces legendaries.
Zeio Nut; 75K
For chocobos who are legendary, extreme edits beyond belief (Think Rafiki from the Lion King Musical cosplay or some nonsense) or trying to produce stronger legendary chocobos.

Price and eggs are split however the owner(s) of the parents choose, but when splitting the eggs between two owners, both owners must post the number of eggs they are to be receiving. Also, if you find yourself being generous, you can always give eggs away to friends, or offer them up to the shop to distribute.

Breeding a Legendary Racing Chocobo
There are a few basic notes here as well.
I'm giving you an idea of what it takes to create a legendary chocobo. I'm not telling you preceicely HOW, but just some guidelines. This is because like all the FF games, raising your chocobos to perfection requires either the strategy guide, or a lot of guess work. And we're staying pretty true to the games here, so...

The breeding here is based off of breeding FFVII chocobos. So reading a guide (like this one) on that won't hurt your chances of getting it right.
There's never any info on breeding a white chocobo in a FFVII guide... I guess we will just have to wait and see how you get one of those. ;D
A low race-ranking chocobo will never produce a legendary. For the best results, race them up to class S.
Special chocobos, special nuts. Always order the correct nut for your chocobo. Luciel nuts will never produce a legendary.
Breeding a legendary with the correct nut frequently produces a legendary bird.
Chocobos can be captive or from the wild. To breed your first legendary, you'll need a wild-caught bird. Most flatsales, unedited 1st gen, and raffle birds are wild caught. Sometimes auction birds are as well.
If you really can't figure it out, you give up entirely and just want to find a way to buy your way out, you can. But it takes a stupid high custom-bribe and your legendary will either not come out with good racing stats or not be breedable. A good chocobo owner is a responible trainer/breeder!

So. With that established, I'd like to add that there are no "great" "wonderful" etc. chocobos here. A chocobo's wild type is based on where it is caught, and a little common sense when reading an FFVII chocobo guide will go a long way towards getting your breeding right. There are six wild classes and they are (in order of rarity);
Beach
Plains
Forest
Jungle
Northern
Desert

You can tell what kind yours is by the background on your cert. :3 Simple as that! For farm-bred chocobos they have a standard "farm" background that is different for each generation. For cosplays, they get an added bonus of being a wildcard - they can fill any role that isn't legendary!

Racing stats (and rank also falls under this) also factor in. If your chocobo has dirt bad racing stats, it's almost impossible for it to produce something legendary. If your chocobo has HOMG stats, well then it's pretty legendary in and of itself, now aint it!

If there are any questions, you can PM Nyow and ask. :3
