{Enter from Freshwater Lake}

They managed to make it to the city alright. Neptune and Thoth had settled into his backpack, talking in quiet tones mostly. Kent was sure Thoth was telling the Marill all of his little mishaps throughout the years, given how often the Marill was giggling. He could always just return the two to their pokeballs and relieve himself of the extra weight, but he enjoyed their company. Plus a couple extra sets of eyes and ears helped to make sure they didn't get jumped by a trainer of pokemon.

He entered the Pokemon Center first, which would be a habit he wanted to make. He shifted his backpack around to the front so the two small pokemon could hop onto the counter. He pulled Neptune's ball from his belt, as well as dug around in his backpack for Thoth's ball. He'd painted the bottom of Thoth's ball orange and put a black T on it, in case he lost it. "If it's alright with you, could you give my pokemon a check up? They're not hurt or anything so if you have others who are worse off, I can wait." The nurse at the counter nodded to him. "We only have a few other people here, so it shouldn't take long." Kent nodded to her, smiling. "Thanks." He took a seat to wait.

Sure enough, he only had to wait about fifteen minutes before they were done. "Thanks again!" He said, waving to the nurse as he retrieved his pokemon and their balls. As he went out the door, he remembered he should have asked directions to the Poke Mart. Ah well, how big could this place be...

Pretty big, given how it took him over a half hour to find the place. He entered the store, whistling slightly. He looked around, collecting a few items. He picked up a couple of Pokeballs, as well as a potion. A book caught his eye, and he took it down. It seemed to be part of a series that detailed what to watch out for in the surrounding region, a survival guide in essence. He decided to get it. Finally, he pulled out two ice cream bars from a refrigerated unit. He set the lot on the counter for the person to ring up. He smiled and asked, "Hey, do you know anything about the gym here? I saw it as I was trying to find this place." He pulled out his wallet to pay for the stuff. He wasn't interested in becoming a Champion, but maybe he could take on a couple of gyms.

The shopkeeper looked at Kent for a few moments, sizing the Trainer up. He wasn't sure whether or not he should disclose the information about the city's gym to an outsider, so he would take a little convincing. "Give me one good reason why I should disclose information about the pride of Masu City to you, Trainer," he demanded. The shopkeeper didn't intend to tell everyone about the gym's type, so Kent would need to convince the keeper that he was in fact worthy of hearing this kind of information.

Kent smiled. "Because, it really doesn't matter in the end if you tell me or not. If you don't, I'll know what kind of pokemon to catch and train for them. If you don't, I can literally just walk over there and battle one of the gym trainers, then once the battle ends, I figure out the type and go and catch and train pokemon to combat them. Either way, by the time I get to the important one, the Gym Leader, I'll have some pokemon that will do well against him or her." He began pulling bills out of his wallet to pay for the items. They seemed to be the same price as back home, so he knew about how much they should cost.

(( Needed to exceed 15 v_v;; ))

"Sorry to give you a hard time, we just receive a lot of Trainers and most of them are sort of troublesome. I'd still rather you check out the gym for yourself. Be warned though, not all of the Trainers there will give you hints about what the gym's type is. Many of them don't receive one of the gym's Pokemon until they've proven themselves. Only the leader themselves will make that information obvious." The shopkeeper took Kent's money and handed back the items that he had paid for. "Good luck with the gym if you decide to challenge it." The keeper nearly felt as though he was acting like a citizen of Rakuda City. They really didn't like outsiders much at all in that city.

Ah, looked like the guy wasn't going to tell him. Oh well, he wanted to look around the city for some pokemon anyway. He figured two more would be good, then maybe he could get some experience fighting some regular trainers. He wanted at least three different elemental moves when he fought the gym, just to cover the possibilities. Torchic couldn't use fire yet, and he honestly wasn't sure about Marill's capabilities. "It's fine. I grew up on Cinnabar Island. We attracted all sorts of hot headed trainers." He chuckled a bit at his joke. "Thanks for the advice and the luck. Though, my dad says, 'A good trainer is lucky. A great trainer doesn't need it." He gave the shopkeeper a wave before leaving the store with his new items.

He stored the balls on his belt, and the book and potion in his backpack pockets. He then broke one of the ice cream bars in half, giving a half each to Neptune and Torchic. "This is an ice cream bar. The brown stuff is this gooey chocolate crumb stuff, and the white stuff is the ice cream." "Marill!" The two pokemon began eating the bars with enthusiasm. Kent grinned himself as he began eating the other one. He began exploring the city, wondering what sort of trouble he could get himself into. Probably a lot of it to be had here.

Without walking too far through the city, Kent would find himself staring at a Pokemon that appeared to be wearing a skull for a hat. It was angrily bashing a bone in its hand against a container of soda-pop, unsuccessfully attempting to open it. Since it was distracted, it didn't notice the approaching Trainer.

Kent was happily licking his fingers of any remaining trace of melted ice cream. He looked up at the sudden sound of bone against metal. He recognized it as a Cubone. He was familiar with ground pokemon as well as water since a lot of the trainers brought them to combat the gyms fire type. Thoth quickly hopped out of Kent's backpack, taking up a defensive position a couple of feet in front of Kent. The Torchic didn't like the way the Cubone was hitting that soda-pop, and frankly, Kent wasn't too crazy about it either. At least Thoth and Neptune were there to help him out. "You know, if you keep hitting it like that and actually manage to break it, you're going to lose most of it." He said, a bit nervous.

The bonehead Pokemon looked towards the Trainer and Pokemon that had approached it. "Bone," was its only reply to what they had to say about it beating the can that it had found. The Wild Pokemon merely ignored the pair that stood before it and continued to beat the soda pop with its club, hoping to open it up to get to the sweet treat that was locked away inside.

Kent somehow doubted that the Cubone would be willing to join them. However, he wanted the Cubone on his team, just in case they met some electric pokemon. Even if it didn't know any ground moves, it was still immune to electric attacks. Besides, it would give Torchic some more experience. "Alright Thoth, use Scratch." Thoth began hopping forward and when he got close enough, he horizontally scratched at the Cubone.

25(Damage) - 10(Cubone's Defense) = 15 Damage Dealt

The attack devastates the Cubone, very nearly causing it to pass out. It looks like a light gust of wind would cause the Pokemon to faint.

Cubone is still standing, but it doesn't look like it will be able to take any more damage before fainting.

The Cubone was knocked to the ground by the bird's powerful Scratch attack. It clutched its bone in its hand and used it as a crutch to assist itself with rising to its feet. The Pokemon struggled to move at this point, as it had sustained heavy damage. It merely let out a weak growl, refusing to accept defeat, even under the dire circumstances that it had faced.

Wow, if Thoth kept this powerful attack streak up, there wasn't going to be much that could stop them. He felt sorry though for the Cubone. He'd have much preferred to get it to come along willingly, but it hadn't seemed very willing for that. Now it looked like it could barely stand, which meant it was time for the pokeball. He withdrew one of the empty ones from his belt. Hopefully it would hit its mark and capture the brown dinosaur. Thoth backed away a little bit, to give Kent a clear shot, though it might have seemed like the growl affected him. Thoth wouldn't let such a pitiful growl affect him though. Kent tossed the pokeball at the Cubone, hoping for a capture.

Even though the Cubone was feeling extremely weak, it still managed to bash away Kent's Pokeball with its club. It looked as though it had just been a bad throw rather than as a result of the Cubone still being too powerful to be captured. The Pokemon noticed a bit of change in the human that had thrown the ball after it had growled at the Trainer's Pokemon, so it attempted to do so again.

Drat, that one hadn't worked. He'd have to use another pokeball. Shame, he only had three left, and one of them was going to be used to capture this guy. Or girl, it was hard to tell. The growl attack affected Thoth this time. He knew Kent wanted to capture the Cubone, so he would be going easy on it anyway. "Come on, work this time." Kent whispered to himself, taking another pokeball and throwing it at the Cubone.
