Bio: Melanie was born into a middle class family, but after her father died when she was five, the pressure to make money landed on her mother. Her mother worked three jobs and with Melanie's recurring heart problems, it was hard to keep the bills paid. When she was 16, Melanie's mother died from literally working herself to death. Being an only child, the bills passed to Melanie to pay. But even daily household chores were a struggle to get done for her. But still, Melanie pushed herself; finally, as the area she lived in became more and more dangerous with slave-hunters, Melanie decided to get someone to protect her while she was out and about, even at home. She doesn't live in the best neighborhood, and her apartment isn't that great. Not to mention the tons of stairs she is forced to climb due to the elevator almost always being out of order. She hopes to find a slave that can keep her safe.
Anything else relevant? She tires easily and has problems accepting help from others. Her health issues go unidentified by the doctor's as it is such a rare health problem that also tends to affect her lungs at times. She works as a maid and a waitress at a small cafe.
