It is a Chinese celebration starting on the new moon on the first day of the new year, and ends 15 days later, the 15th day is called the Lantern Festival.
What do people do during the celebration?
Well there are a couple of things they do before it even begins, starting with cleaning. Yes I said cleaning, when cleaning they hope to "sweep away all ill-fortune", during the time of cleaning people also took the time to refurbish there homes. Like panting and decorating doors and windows with paper cut outs. and no they don't just clean that would be ridiculous. Some other things they do is have a feast with the whole family the day before the new years event begins. One of the things they eat during this supper is "Jiaozi", then they wait all night playing games, watching TV, and keeping every light in the house on all night. Then at midnight fireworks go off to celebrate the new year, the next morning is very similar to are Christmas.

The children open up there new years presents. Then they go door to door greeting everyone they know. During the 15 days of the celebration people will greet each other and give one another presents, this is so that any grudges that may be held can be forgotten. The Lantern Festival is the end of the Chinese new year, this is basically a festival of lights. After this day everything returns to normal.

This is basically a little bit of information on the Chinese new year.
