You guys like wrasslin'? I haven't watched any new American stuff in over a year, cuz its kind of gone down hill, but I've been getting into Japanese wrestling the past few days. I like that All-Japan Pro Wrestling is shoot style (legit, not predetermined/scripted), and also seriously enjoying Big Japan Pro Wrestling a lot more than I thought I would

Here's why: Because in America, hardcore wrestling is nothing but a buncha yokel backyard wrestlers who think because they can afford to rent a proper venue, they're a real promotion, but they're still just idiots who can't pull off moves properly and masking their inability to wrestle by hiding behind EDGEY GIMMICKS like barbed wire matches.

But then you get BJW, who pride themselves in "deathmatch" wrestling, where everything is taken to real extremes, and their wrestlers are actually talented performers. So the overall product is ******** awesome

Don't believe me?

300 LIGHT TUBES DEATHMATCH!

******** yeah, a topic I can go into great lengths on blaugh Personally, I'm not a fan of hardcore or deathmatch(which has it's roots in Puerto Rico) Big Japan does have some entertaining elements to it. Another fun Japanese promotion(Well they're all fun actually) is the comedy-based Dramatic Dream Team with such "wrestlers" as Yoshihiko. xd

EDIT: Another amazing hardcore(I believe that was it's main focus anyway) promotion was Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling(FMW) based in Japan.

The point I'm bringing up is Puroresu is much better than the two big companies here in the states as in WWE and TNA.

That's cuz WWE forgot they were a wrestling promotion, not a soap opera. I strangely have high hopes they'll get back to their roots of GOOD wrestling, like they had in the 80's/early 90's. Mostly cuz they're put out a game as ridiculous as All Stars, and bridging whatever gap they had with Randy Savage. A game like that tells me the WWE wants to be fun again.

Now TNA, on the other, was is and never will be good. Ever. That really just IS a talk fest. Totally NO Action Wrestling. Their ring is smaller than standard cuz its really just a stage for grown men to b***h on. And almost every match is 2-3 man tag team matches because thats the only way to fit in most of the roster in between all the ******** talking. And its not like any of them are good anyway. Its a buncha TNA original nobodies who suck, and then rejects from the WWE, WCW, and ECW.

Puroresu is definitely far more impressive. Really really talented wrestlers, even in the hardcore divisions.

WWE has been going downhill for old school fans since they instituted the PG policy back in '08.

TNA used to be good at one time until they got bought by the Carter family. This is what they used to be like. It might not the caliber of a KENTA Kobashi vs. Mitsuharu Misawa(RIP) match, but its definitely a hell of a lot better than what you see now from TNA.

Good wrestling isn't necessarily super-violent. Not a big fan of those extreme sorts, because they tend to promote gore and shock over good technical wrestling, though obviously like any sane person I agree about the WWE losing their way (although I think even '08 is a bit late to claim they started going downhill!)

ECW was the best back in the day, when it combined violence with real technical skills, but that thing calling itself ECW now is a joke. Shame on Dreamer for ever associating with it.

Like I said, I'm not a big fan of American hardcore/"extreme" promotions, but Big Japan just really caught me off guard because it actually IS extreme just for the sake of doing it, not shock value, and the wrestlers really know how to work the crowd and bring the energy. Very amazing ring work all the matches I've seen so far.

A lot of martial artists are actually weaker than they are portrayed. China, for example, has a s**t martial arts culture. In a S-E Asian tournament, Japan was represented by an instructor from a school or something like that.... China was represented by their national champion. Japan was asked to field weaker opponents on purpose!
And let's not forget that the highest Bruce Lee was ranked was high school boxing champ razz

Think that's a bit harsh and extremely inaccurate/untrue.

And definitely do not knock Bruce Lee, dude is ranked LEGEND.

Back to the topic of wrestling. Torrented an AJPW PPV, Love in Taiwan 2010, which was pretty ******** awesome. Hilariously bad name, really epic good tag team matches. The main focus of the whole event was a tag team tournament for a shot at the tag team champions. There was a few singles matches, including a title match for the AJPW Heavy Weight belt, which was succesfully defended. As were the tag team championship belts, surprisingly cuz I thought the guys who made it to the title match were definitely gonna take it. Like they were RIDICULOUSLY good and definitely outclassed almost all their opponents, like very few matches leading up to the title match gave them a hard time. If anyone wants the PPV, I can megaupload it sometime.

Also wanna start posting more BJW deathmatches. LIGHT TUBES, YEAH!

Bruce Lee was a good actor, and did well in a few unofficial matches, but he never tested himself in proper championships. Good films though.
It is, however, very accurate and true about the Chinese martial arts being weaker. It's because they're trained using a lot of form work, which is not directly applicable to real fights, but looks impressive during demonstrations. Thus, they're actually pretty weak at a competitive level. The police, however, are tough as Hell because they train using the simple, effective stuff.

That sounds worth checking out though, the PPV, I'd quite like to see it because I haven't watched much wrestling in the past while and would like to see something decent for once, rather than Smackdown at a friend's house. Been too long since I've had proper tv.

Also didn't TNA have that one guy that was straight edge, to bring it to a moar punx topic razz
