The Arena is owned by Lina Shiningblade. It was a gift to her from her father. Despite her owning the arena, she does not like slavery or making others fight for entertainment. However, to keep up appearances, she has been known to attend the games from time to time. Especially when important "games" are being held.

The smell of blood and sweat is heavy in the air. The sound of clashing metal resounds as swords come together or armored bodies slam into each other. The crowd cheers, enjoying the entertainment of people killing each other solely for their entertainment. Royals watch from special seating places where they have a better view. Cages hold the gladiators out of site until they are called upon to do battle. They are not sexist or racist here. There are both male and female gladiators from every race. Do you enjoy the shows?

Some gladiators receive special treatment for preforming well in the games. Instead of being homed in cages the have private rooms in wings attached to the Arena. These are usually home to those fighters who are "free fighters", fighters in the games who are not slaves and fight for no royal family. There is a wing set aside for favored gladiators as well though.

Yinar leans against the outside of an empty cage. She is freely in the large, wide walkway. She isn't a gladiator, so they do not cage her like some animal. She smirks, finding the thought amusing. She would like to see them try to do such a thing. Their screams of pain would be like music to her ears. She is a fighter, a warrior, for the Shingblade family. The very family that owns this arena. She smirks again, almost laughing. It gives her more power within these walls than the pets of the Enkil family have here. More powers than the pets of the ruling family. A lovely twist of fate.

A young boy sat in a solitary cell, eating an unusually large piece of bread for a slave-gladiator. Those in cages and cells around him eyed the food eagerly, but he was well out of arm's reach of any of them and he hadn't moved from the spot in hours. A voice echoed in from the outside, announcing a special event to take place later on sponsored by Grand Duke Kato and that they were all sure to enjoy it, but the boy's expression remained the same- void of any enthusiasm. Loitering opposite of the bars on the cell and leaning against a cage was Yinar who seemed to be a semi-free fighter, just there for her own entertainment. Sarest glanced up a moment which revealed an emblazoning on his clothes that indicated he was somehow affiliated with the Kato household. However, after a moment he went back to munching on his loaf of bread that the other gladiators were obviously envying even more by the moment.

Yinar eyes the young man in the cell before her. She thinks she knows who he is roughly. Icy blue eyes close for a moment as she struggles with her mind. Yes, he is somehow affiliated with the Kato household. How, she does not yet know. Opening her eyes, she glares at the gladiators in cages near him in warning. Her gaze then levels upon him. "A fine prize for someone so new and yet to prove himself in the Arena. Your master should be more careful lest your neighbors forget themselves."

Sarest didn't look up to the woman, but stopped eating, apparently thinking about her words. He opened his mouth once and closed it without saying a word, but then spoke, "They've forgotten... already, but Sarest won't forget. Sarest can't forget." He took another bite from the loaf and looked up to Yinar, thinking again and asked, "Why is Miss here? Has she forgotten?" His words sounded well enough, but he seemed to have trouble speaking the language. His gaze settled on the woman's eyes with an unusual steadiness for his age, but it was obvious to anyone skilled at reading people that his eyes had seen far more than someone his age possibly should have had to.

Yinar likes that he is too new and young to know better than to do such a thing with her. She allows the eye contact, matches it. "I remember." The beatings and... other things. Wishing she was dead. Wishing her father and brothers would die... She had been only a small child then. Her mind had shattered. She had killed them. Killed her father and three brothers. She had been like a wild animal in that house of death when they finally came looking for her nearly four months later. She was taken in by the Shingblade family. Raised to be a fighter. They use her in the Arena when they don't need her to eliminate someone or go to war. "I am a Shingblade Fighter. There is no war for them right now and so I fight in the Arena. I bring them much in profits." She walks to his cage and squats down. "Why are you here?"

Sarest's eyes appeared to brighten slightly when she asked why he was here, "... ..." he paused right before talking, but continued swiftly, "Promise. He promised Sarest and Sarest promised him." His expression almost changed, but his face remained unemotional while he thought another moment, "If Sarest does good and can impress, then he gets back what he wants. Free to go too," he said as though he had practiced saying it in his mind continuously. Sarest ate the last quarter of the loaf in a few large bites which was accompanied by many grumbles from the other gladiators which caught Sarest's attention for a moment as he looked around at them before looking back at Yinar.

Yinar almost snaps then, almost snarls at the other gladiators. She manages to pull herself back under control right before she does however. She nods slowly. "Never forget that then. Or who you are. Don't let them take it from you, Sarest." The fighter gives him a smile. "Be sure to impress them. Fights can't be too short but you must win. Do you understand?"

"Hmm..." Sarest closed his eyes deep in thought and frowning slightly, trying to remember something, although he seemed like he was stuck in a loop, bobbing his head up and down for a while. He raised his head with a knowing nod and recited, "'Win, but not too fast; close but not too close.'" And after a pause he finished, "He said too." Sarest then genuinely smiled, showing a face far too adorable to be in a place of bloodsport, "Thank you Miss Shiningblade Fighter. Sarest won't forget this kindness," he said, holding out a hand with his palm facing her. The young one saw some blood on his little finger and licked it off, however, it didn't reveal a wound. He hadn't moved the whole time from the middle of his large cell, but he looked infinitely more content than he had before, sitting alone in there.

Yinar smiles kindly. "I certainly hope not, dear one. I would like for someone to remember me fondly." She looks up, hearing her fight being announced. Her icy blue eyes return to him. "I must go now. It is my time to fight for them." She rises and is on her way. Fighting makes her become almost someone else. Once in the arena, it is like she is looking for death. Many call her Death Chaser. Her opponent is much larger than her and she doesn't play it safe. By the end of the fight she has been wounded in the left shoulder, right thigh, and walks out victorious but with her dead opponent's sword through her stomach with the very tip sticking out her back.

[-Sarest-]

When Yinar was called in Sarest watched her leave before standing up and walking over to the bars of the cell and looked to the path that lead into the arena. He couldn't see well so he stuck his hand out and something unusual happened; a slit appeared in his palm that opened up into an eye. Sarest covered one of his eyes with his other hand and the one in his palm blinked, rolling around some before setting on the scene before him. The woman's battle was quite the sight, seeing her shirk defense in favor of devastating offense, although there was something more behind it Sarest thought. It wasn't too long before Yinar was returning and Sarest dropped his hand, watching her walk back in well torn up, but victorious, "... Miss Shi-" Sarest started, but was interrupted by the loud voice of the announcer.
"A~and now today's main even! Lord Maximillian Kato XXIII has arrived, so we are pleased to bring you the first fighter endorsed by our Grand Duke! He is being dropped right into the 'Ring of Beasts' as well! Maybe a word to the unlucky soul before the match my lord?"
Sarest thought a moment and bowed to Yinar as the keeper for this section unlocked Sarest's cage and started leading him out to the ring.

[-Maximillian-]

The Grand Duke's carriage swiftly maneuvered through the crowds and other vehicles travelling through the streets only to come to an equally swift halt in front of the Arena's entrance gates. There was a servant man waiting outside, "Hurry my lord, it's just about time!" he said, guiding Maximillian through the passages and into the seating area for nobles. The announcer had just finished getting the crowd about as excited as they could off of Yinar's match and whispered to Maximillian, "Are you sure you want your fighter to do the Ring of Beasts? I don't know if you familiar with the Arena, but we normally use that for groups of gladiators with with several years of experience... we could make a quick change of plans..."
"The audience is waiting," was Maximillian's only reply before the man went back to his small stage out over the seats and called out to the audience. When asked the question Maximillian stood up and took a few steps forward, placing a hand on his throat and amplifying his voice many times over, "Sarest! Show no mercy and remember what I told you! If you do that I've no doubt you will succeed!"
"Excellent, now bring out our fighter!!!"

[-Sarest-]

Sarest was led out to the center of the large arena and the attendant quickly ran back to the area where Yinar and Sarest had spoken before large metal bars came down, blocking anything entering or exiting the arena. The young man looked up to box where the Grand Duke sat and raised his hand with his index finger and thumb out before putting on his cestus and watching as many creatures came out of different entrances: gnolls, drakes, and large wolves. They quickly formed a loose circle around Sarest, clustered into seven groups of four wolves, two drakes, and one gnoll each as they had been trained. The announce called out a fierce 'Fight!' followed by the crowd bursting into cheers and the wolves jumping forward.

Yinar grabs the offending weapon's hilt and slowly pulls it out, letting it fall to the ground. Both hands brace against the wall for a moment before Sarest's fight sinks into her mind. Spinning around she hurries to where she can see him fighting. She can't believe they put him in the Ring of Beasts. He's green. They could kill him. She wraps her hands around the large metal bars blocking her from getting to into the arena even though they are warded against her and send waves of pain through her already weakening body. She understood when her king did this to General Werlis but the Grand Duke doing it to the boy seems cruel. Werlis is the Shingblade and Arena Champion. This boy is only human.

"Ladies and Gentlemen! The Ring. Of. Beasts!" the announcer called as the action started. The crowd was all roars and cheers, while a noblewoman up in the special seats cried out, "He's just a child!" Practically everyone in the audience was either screaming for blood or horrified that this young boy was partaking in an event that is rarely enough used for groups of gladiators, but Maximillian sat back in his chair with a self-contented smirk on his face.

The boy in question set a foot back and wound up a punch with the spiked glove, waiting until the last moment before suddenly sending it into the skull of the first offending opponent. The canine was sent sprawling until it rolled to an eerily still stop with blood oozing out of its head. However, Sarest didn't have time to regroup as a wolf that had attacked on the opposite side jumped up and clamped down on his shoulder. He winced in pain, but not stopping long enough to let the wolf start shaking him he jumped back Sarest jumped up and executed an improvised suplex, rending it unable to move. Several more wolves jumped forward, attacking similar to the first pair with one or two attacking from the front or side and then another one or two from behind.

Quickly wising up to this tactic a small eye appeared on the back of Sarest's neck and to anyone unable to see he seemed as though he could see through the movements of the animals. When most of the wolves had been killed or broken a horn sounded and five of the gnolls jumped forward- all wielding some form of spiked club, sword, or axe. The two that remained back started howling rhythmically, seeming to entice the other five into more of a frenzy as they swung, bit, and clawed at Sarest. Jumping back from the first blow, Sarest was buffeted forward by a blow to the back when one of the gnolls swung around from the side. Sarest used the momentum to tackle the one ahead of him and quickly switched places with it, getting out of the ring of hyena-men. Taking three quick steps back he prevented them from surrounding him again and swung out wildly when one of them came in to attack him. The gnoll was blown back the blow as though it was made of paper, gore spraying from it's mouth and broken ribs sticking out of its back.

The crowd gasped as it became apparent why this boy was in there as they saw his arm engorged to the size of a tree trunk. some more gasps as when the next gnoll came in his unarmed hand transformed into that of a bear's and crushed the creature into the ground. Another horn sounded and suddenly all hell broke loose with the fourteen drakes charging in like a pack of raptors, jumping and snapping from being incensed with the smell of blood and the gnolls' war chants. In an instant he was batted into the air and sent spinning onto the ground by the relentless attacks of the beasts. He punched with his enhanced arm at the body of one when he had the chance, but it barely left a dent in the leathery scales of the drake before it grabbed him in its mouth and threw him with a spray of blood through the sky once again. Almost none of the screams for blood remained and were replaced by gasps of horror as the boy fell towards the snapping mouths of the drakes that weren't already eating the corpses of wolves or gnolls, however, as he fell, Sarest's face slowly turned from pain to a wild grin. He took control of his momentum in the air and flipped over, sending a long tail with a mace-like ball at the end through the group of drakes, scattering them and leaving one that was hit directly in the head twitching on the ground. The drakes still were circling, but for the moment none got closer to him as he let out a blood-chilling sound halfway between a shout and a roar.

Yinar's icy blue eyes are fixated on the battle within the arena. She can hardly believe what she is seeing. The drakes are always another story though. They always cause trouble. Her gaze slips to the side as several guards approach her and her pupils dilate. Wounded and bleeding badly, she needs to feed rather desperately if she is going to start healing without assistance. After her last encounter with King Shingblade, a medic of any kind isn't likely. When the guards see the blood pooling around her feet, they quickly think twice and avoid her. Her gaze swings back to Sarest with worry as the bars take more of her strength. Yinar blinks in surprise at the sound he makes.

Once again the drakes started closing in, but yet another change occurred in Sarest. This time a pair of bull horns grew out of his head and his legs also transformed into those of a bull and he charged forward towards the one closest, smashing head on with the drake, stopping both of their movements completely. The transformed boy roared and heaved up his head, sending the drake through the air and smashing into the ground behind him. He leapt up onto it and roared again, this time a golden-brown mane spreading from his neck and his nose and jaw extending slightly forward and being filled with flesh-ripping fangs. Realizing this dangerous situation the drake struggled to get away but Sarest's tail smashed into the reptile's side, shocking it for a moment as he sunk his teeth through the softer scales on the neck.

The spray of blood was accompanied a renewed vigor in the crowd, cheers rising from all around along with the sounding of yet another horn. Nothing seemed to happen at the moment other than that all of the remaining beasts and beast-men kept attacking, but once the crowd of assailants was starting to be thinned something unusual happened. Beside his leg, the corpse of a wolf suddenly jumped up, clawing at Sarest. It slashed his body and went in to attack again. Surprised at first, Sarest tried to step back, but his legs moved much slower than he expected, feeling the paralyzing touch of undeath on him and he was hit by another corpse that rose up and yet another. Unable to move around much, Sarest swung his horns hard and smashed back several; he also swung wide with his arms that were both those of bears now. Glancing around frantically he saw the two gnolls that had stayed back before's weapons glowed with a dark power and he frowned deeply.

The drake Sarest had killed by biting its neck from before also rose up with no light held in its eyes. It bend down low, jaw dropping, and a furious roar emanated from it, blowing Sarest off his feet. Landing on his feet, Sarest could move again and he immediately turn to the gnolls and charged them with his horns gleaming in the light. One of the other gnolls tried to get in the way but was knocked away with a huge gash across the chest with a casual flick of Sarest's head. The two tried to run away, but one was neatly impaled by his horns and the other who dodged soon got a faceful of his friend before being blown away by a roar identical to the one previously used by the resurrected drake. Taking out the two responsible for raising the previously dead beasts caused the many undead beings to fall once again, leaving only a few more beasts that even the most dim-witted and stoic among them shrunk from heading in to attack him.

--- --- ---

A few minutes later Sarest smashed the last gnoll against the arena walls with his paws and walked back to the center. All around him lay the dead or broken bodies of his enemies and on his body was shredded clothes and both his and his enemies' blood. The crowd was quiet for a moment until he raised his hand with his index finger and thumb out again, causing the crowd to roar in cheers. Sarest's body gradually transformed back into his meager original form as he walked back to the gate he entered through. The bars rose up and Sarest passed through. He grinned to Yinar as he walked in and as soon as he was in the shadow of the tunnel he collapsed forward, exhausted and spent.
