I thought I'd get to know my fellow guild members' tastes in literature aside from the fact that they despise Twilight, because I feel like taking a little break from sparkling vampires.

I really don't like the Accelerated Reader Program. All of the good books that people actually want to read are usually not on the school's list and, if they're like me, they'll be so slow at reading that they won't have time in the year to enjoy the books they like and accrue enough points to pass.

At the moment, I'm reading Stendhal's Le Rouge et Le Noir. It's not on the ARP list, but I'll convince the librarian to purchase the quiz for it. I like it so far because the action comes fast and the book doesn't pause for unnecessary descriptions.
I just read Les Miserables by Victor Hugo and these two books go together very well. They take place around the same time frame (except for the fact that Les Mis greatly revolves around the July Revolution of 1830 and goes further on to describe the June Rebellion in 1832, whereas Stendhal wants to disassociate this work completely from said events) and the general attitude toward certain topics is the same. I recommend reading them as a pair.

I want to start a discussion where we talk about what we like, rather than what we don't like (unless it's ARP!). Otherwise, this would be a one-note guild. So, what are you reading? Who are some of your favourite authors? What genre are you into?
