This is a battle tutorial for the Trainer named Oratu Kanja.

If you haven't read the Battle and Example Battle threads, you should do so. They may seem confusing, but they will help you to understand battling.

A lone Pokemon Trainer named Mikkel stood inside of an empty arena. The Trainer had light brown hair and a pair of excited blue eyes. He wore fairly basic clothing, which he favored because it was very comfortable. Mikkel heard a high pitched creaking noise towards the entrance of the large building. After looking in the direction of the sound, he noticed a fledgling Pokemon Trainer enter the space. Without taking the time to properly introduce himself, he shouted, "Hey! I challenge you to a Pokemon match!" He then reached down to his belt, withdrew a shiny Pokeball, and lobbed it into the air towards the newcomer. As it began to fall towards the ground, the Pokeball opened, releasing a bright red light. After the light faded, a pink blob was revealed. The Trainer shouted once more, "Let us begin, go Dopple!" Mikkel had a confident look on his face, as if he expected to win the battle before it began. He was confident that his Ditto would be able to handle anything that came out of his new opponent's Pokeball.

Oratu took a sharp right into a building he saw, and just when he thought he was safe from a ravaging pack of angry females, he heard someone demanding a challenge. At first he thought it may have been one of the angry girls' boy friend, but wasn't entirely sure, and as Oratu spun around to face his challenger he was blinded by the release of a pokemon. I WAS ONLY TAKING A PEEK! he thought to himself as he reached down for his own pokeball. "Amerad. . . HELP!" he screached, still slightly disorientated as Amerad came out to defend his trainer.

Each Trainer must roll 2d20 in order to break the tie for their Trainer Dexterity and Pokemon's Speed. The first die will count as the Dexterity tie-breaker and the second die will count as the Pokemon's Speed tie-breaker.

Trainer Dexterity Roll: 8

Pokemon Speed Roll: 19

If Oratu beats 19 for his Pokemon's Speed tie-breaker, Krabby may attack in the next post.

Oratu will use his Trainer Actions first for the remainder of the match, but the Ditto will use its moves before Krabby. Since this is the first round, Trainers don't get to use their Trainer actions, so Ditto may use a move.

Mikkel narrowed his eyes. 'A Krabby,' he thought silently to himself, 'This should be fun....' The water Pokemon appeared to have about the same amount of initiative as his Ditto, but it seemed as though the pink blob was having a good day, as it seemed to just barely edge out the Krabby, enabling it to use a move first. The youngster shouted, "Try this on for size! Dopple, use your Transform!" The puddle of pink began to glow slightly. This light was enough to wash out all of its features, but its form was still visible. As the light intensified, the shape of the Ditto shifted from an ambiguous collection of goo into the rigid form of a crustacean. After a few moments, the light faded and the pink Pokemon had been replaced by the small and rigid form of a crab. "Let's see how you handle this!" Mikkel actually quite liked Krabby and was getting a little overexcited with the thrill of getting to test one out in a fight.

Oratu was still in shock from his recent series of events, and the addition of seeing a transforming pokemon for the first time was able to make his jaw drop a bit further. The short amount of time allowed by the ditto's transformation allowed Oratu to take in a deep breath and regain his composure "I hope you're ready!" Oratu sounded, trying to sound confident despite this being his first battle. "Amerad, Vicegrip! Don't give him the luxury of time!" Oruto ordered, in hopes of making this a quick battle. After all, this challenger might not be completely familiar with Krabbys, and the less time he gave him time to think, the better.

While Amerad began to move, it became obvious to Oratu that the thrill of the battle had excited him, the jittery, paranoid feeling he was having just moments ago had turned into a pure adrenaline-filled bliss, this could be easily read by his facial expression, which was a mix between happy, focused, with a bit of lost-my-mind thrown in. This battle WILL be mine!

Vicegrip Damage Check: 3d10 = 19

19 (Dice Roll) + 12 (Amerad's Attack) = 31 Physical damage

31(Vicegrip's Damage)-5(Ditto's Defense)= 26 Damage Dealt

The attack heavily damages Ditto. It looks very beat up.

Ditto is still standing.

The round ends. Oratu may use a Trainer Action or pass his Action step.

Oratu could barely contain his excitement, he fumbled through his bag for his pokedex. "Great execution!" Oratu praised while finally gripping something in his bag the resembled the pokedex. "Lets see how the ditto handled himself!" Oratu spoke as he whipped out, and flipped open his pokedex to see how ditto's vitals were looking.

Oratu's Pokedex blinks on. Its speakers begin to play a recording.

"Ditto, a Transform Pokémon. It is able to rearrange the cells of its body and assume any form. Its only attack is Transform."

The young Pokemon Trainer cringed as his Ditto was crunched by the powerful claws of the Krabby that it was facing, nearly cracking its shell. Mikkel was left speechless. He had no idea that a Krabby possessed such a great deal of physical strength. Having lost his breath a little, Mikkel barely managed to speak a command to his Pokemon. "Tha.... Use that same move, Dopple! I know you're hurting, but cut that Krabby down to size!" He hoped that his Dopple possessed enough strength to break through the tough shell of the Krabby. In all honesty he wasn't too confident about it, or his odds of winning the fight for that matter. Still, he wanted to give the match his very best shot. "Do your very best, Dopple, I'm behind you!" The Ditto scuttled towards its red opponent and attempted to clamp down on it with one of its large pincers in hopes of proving its ability to its Trainer and friend.

22 damage - 10 (Amerad's defense)= 12 damage dealt

Amerad staggers heavily, but still stands.

"Amerad, lets wrap this match up! Give'em another taste of Vicegrip!" encouraged Oratu. That ditto packs quite a punch for being in someone else's form.
