There’s a putrid smell emanating from the cracks of the cellar door.
The Smell
Decaying leaves crunched under his boots with every step he took. He held a black handkerchief to his dripping nose as he walked past the creaking swing that hung under the big oak tree. He could already smell it. The rancid stench flew in through his covered nose; the rancid stench of something dead. He reached for the handle-
Don’t.
The man turned suddenly. A squawking raven sitting upon the seat of the swing met his anxious gaze.
Don’t.
He jerked back to the handle, pulling on the rusted metal with the energy he had left. Rusted particles fell onto the browned grass as the door creaked open. The man waved his unused arm frantically around the haunting cobwebs.
Don’t.
He brushed the cobwebs off his torn sleeves. The handkerchief was no use; the smell oozed all around him.
Don’t.
The raven squawked as the man gazed at his own face, hanging in the cellar.
