As suspected, this is really basic. There is also tons of grammar going on here that might be obnoxiously confusing to (particularly) native English speakers. Speakers of the Romance languages (French, Spanish, Italian, Romanian, Portuguese, etc) might not find it so hard to understand, but it still may be quite confusing regardless.
