For those who may not know, Re-Cons, are clothing or item reconstructions. This is when you take something that you no longer want or that no longer fits you and you turn it into something new. for instance: turning an old sweater into a scarf and pair of mittens or a hat. My step mother will even take chunkier knits and pull them apart to re-use the yarn for a new project, that will be worn more. I sew a lot and will usually go to a thrift store on the last day of their colour blocking (before they bring out new stuff and take off the stuff that's been out for more than a month). I pretty much just grab whatever is left on their 50cent/ half off racks and recon them. MCC even takes whatever is left over at their thrift stores and recon it into floor mats and place mats to sell again. ^.^

If you go to second hand stores and look for sweaters that do not have seams at the sides, then you have some really cheap yarn that can be used to make a different style item. There are a lot of cute yarns out there. Just look at the inside seams first and check to see if the item has been cut and sewed or pieced together from pieces that are whole. If it has been cut and seamed, you just end op with a bunch of short pieces. I even took apart a cut sweater one time and used the short pieces to weave.
there should have been an "all of the above" choice in the poll
lol

And great tip! Thanks for that! ^.^

The problem with using that term within the Pagan community is that people will think you're talking about religious reconstructionalists.

Sanguina Cruenta The problem with using that term within the Pagan community is that people will think you're talking about religious reconstructionalists. I appreciate your input. however, I did define what I meant by re-cons withing my post so I feel that it is not pertinent to this subject. I will remember this for future reference though and once again, I think you for your suggestion. ^.^

For those who want to know: The term used commonly these days is 're-purposing' or 'upcycling' Taking junk or something old and worn out into something new. I saw something about making a pair of undies from an old t-shirt once... I wish I weren't such a disaster when it comes to sewing. sweatdrop

Oh. You meant upcycling. I think somebody already said that but I thought you meant recon religions.
But both are cool. Personally I'm one of those people that just doesn't waste things. One of my old shirts I've shredded into its tiny fibers and am spinning up with some wool to make a specialty yarn. Which will then probably become a blanket. I'm cool like that XD
