what do you guys think?

I'm extremely hard on judging my own work, but for my first tat I reallllly wanted it to be completely my own art... though I do totally respect other artists 'specific styles' and would want to incorporate others on my body too at some point down the line... ^^

*shrug*

k so...

the fish are a little 'lifeless' looking which I think needs to be dealt with.. (although they are technically my dead goldfish. buuuut I think a more lively image of them would be more suiting. razz ) and the water is too 'solid' looking and not 'flowy' enough... and the linework obv needs more work..

I was originally planning on getting it on my ribs/side - but lately I've been thinking more about changing the layout a bit to make it fit around my lower outside calf or my upper outside thigh instead...

not 100% sure yet - but that's okay cuz I have no money to spare anyway at the moment.. smile

I'll take criticism, good or bad <3

I think it's a beautiful image! Very flowy and almost serene and calm while still being lively.

I do agree, though, the top one is a little lifeless. Maybe if it's tail were pointed up, or flapping about it would be better, same with the "arm" fins, I don't know what else to call them. sweatdrop

It's a great start! I'd give it maybe 80% finished, just by looking at it. You can always take it to an artist and see what more they can add to it, that's what they're for obviously.

If you know something is off about a picture but can't figure out what it is, a trick I learned in an old art class is to turn the picture upside down. You'd be surprised how much that helps.

I think around the ribs would be prettiest. I wouldn't want to scale it down to make it fit on a calf because you could lose some of the detail that way. If it were me, I'd have it almost wrap around my side, starting on like the love-handle area then wrapping around and ending maybe under the boob area. But I'm sorta partial to rib tattoos, and would like to get more myself.

omg! ok so first of all thank you for commenting so fast ^^ the feedback is great biggrin I reallly was thinking the ONLY place this tattoo would feel right is on my ribs exactly as you described - somewhat wrapping around and flowing and whatnot..

on another note: when I posted this first image, it was only what I had scanned on my computer and still had when I lost my actual folder of my tattoo sketches and progression... BUT somehow magically and randomly, today, I found my folder ^__________^

SO, just wait for the updated design! - I've got a bunch of sketches to scan.. and I'm excited to possibly get feedback between them

(I am so friggin happy I found my folder *squee* ^-^)

okay so I scanned the process my sketches took.. I'd be interested to hear what others think... I don't however want to spam up the page with fairly large images... soo I'll paste them on my photobucket with a password. easy peasy, u can scroll through and see from tiny sketch into the first post's picture and then finally onto a more flowing/stylized thing... still not finished though - and I'm sorry for the poor cropping job, these were very quickly scanned in, mainly to show different shapes.

there should be 15 pics (each has a comment by me explaining it a tiny bit more (obvious in most cases), annnd all of the images are obviously mine alone and you're dumb if you want to copy them anyway~ but don't. razz

(rofl.. I just turned around and saw my 17 month old lil girl sittin in the entrance to the kitchen putting a potato back and forth into a ziplock baggie and a stainless steel bowl.

I knew she liked playing with the bowls from the cupboard, but the potatoes from the next cupboard? :/ lol. no harm - just random crazy baby stuff~ ^^)

for those who don't want to or can't figure out the photobucket site, here's the more 'finalized' sketch of pretty much what I want... I think O_o
It's kinda fun to see the progression though the 15 images though..

anyway, here's the more final-ish one razz (I have to say the scales arent drawn, nor is the flower detail or much fin detail.. Oh and it's not outlined at all - i think I do want some thin, varying width outlines.. just not stark thick black ones) this is more just for layout and basics... within a few months hopefully I'll have a final final one done and hopefully have the money to get it!)

these were all drawn last winter btw, rather quickly. >< as I had a 4 month old keeping me busy~
